Hey ValDisney-

You are not nuts. Going to the Halloween party is one of the best times that my family has ever had at WDW! (The other was staying at GF at Christmas!)

I took my son out of school in first and second grades to go to Disney and am taking him out for 6 days to go on a cruise and one day at MK in a couple of weeks!

Do it and have fun! :cool1:

PS- Don't feel too bad- you didn't miss that much by missing the "Osborne lights!"

Of course you are not nuts. You found a place that offers nice clean family fun. Welcome.

The problem here is this...
if you go to a mental health ward and ask a resident if he or she is "nuts", they will say no. In otherwords, in my case I would say NO you are not nuts....but then again, I AM a WDW nut, so the behavior would have to be pretty extreme for me to see it as crazy.

another way to say all that: Welcome to the nuthouse! :3dglasses

You're definitely not nuts as far as I'm concerned! We did MNSSHP on our last trip there and I'm so glad we were able to experience it. I say go! Too bad you didn't buy APs!

What part are you asking if you are nuts about - going 2x in a year or going for Halloween?

We have been going 2x a year since 2001 and last year we went 3x. We just went in November and will be going back in April (land & sea for the first time). I am also trying to figure out when I can go with DD and one of my nieces - before or after April?

Sooooooooo...this is NOT the place to get a truthful answer about you being nuts as we are all enablers here! :)

(Getting on my soap box)

You asked for opinions. Here is mine.

Education is important. I would go to WDW twice a year with my wife and children if I could afford it. But one thing I've learned in my short life (31) is that it passes quickly and sometimes can be terribly short. Enjoy it and your family while you can. Taking your kids out of school for a week will result in extra work for them when they return, but in relation to life, it's only a week. Are your kids going to remember an extra week of school work, or are they going to remember that they were fortunate enough to have parents that took them to one of the best places on this earth during their childhood? You know the answer. You are not nuts. You just believe like the rest of us on this board that getting away from our worries at WDW with our families is the most important thing in this world. Disney keeps us young. I enjoy it as much as my children and can't wait to go back.

Can I join your Crazy Club?

We just got back in Dec. from our first WDW vacation.
We are going back in October.

I have 2 boys (ages 15 and 11). I've been married 18 years, and this is the first real vacation we've ever had. All our other little trips were only for a few days, involved driving and visiting our relatives. I came back from this WDW trip feeling like a new gal. :)

Over the Christmas holiday DS2 asked me what I thought about going to WDW for MNSSHP. I talked it over with everyone. We decided to use our income tax this year to go. We still had a little bit of money left over from our Dec. trip.

As soon as my siblings and parents found out we were going they all started talking about how we're just throwing our money away, how we're insane for going back so soon, etc. I don't care. I'm going to go have a ball with my family. :flower1:

To tell you the truth, I think that people who tell me I'm crazy for going back are just jealous.

I'm going back to WDW 10 months after my last trip. I think I'll have fun. I know you'll have fun, too. princess:

Thanks to all that answered. I love this board.
I am so excited about this. it looks like I'll stay at the POP. So if anybody will be there Oct 20-25, maybe we could have a halloween meet

One year ago my answer would have been very different. I'm a teacher raised by two teachers. I would have told you that you should not take the kids out of school.

What changed? My dad died. He was young and it was SUDDEN. What do I remember of him. VACATIONS! For that time he was all ours.

Will your kids miss work. Yes. Will they make it up. Sure. When they are adults, will they maybe pass on a overtime so they can spend time to raise great kids themselves. God, I hope so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My recommendation. Make sure they work hard on a regular basis. Explain to them that because they work hard and are responsible students, they can afford to take a vacation.

I still believe eduacation is very important. I taught HS math b4 I had children. If I could do this w/o them missing school I would. But , living in NY, I have no choice. I a, sorry to hear about your dad, and I appreciate what you said. It's so true. I will def make sure they are up to date on thier work and they will know all work has to be made up.
We missed a couple of days b4 the x-mas vacation and everyone in the school from the principal to the teacher said
"Have a good time".
Valerie

I was a HS math teacher before being an at home mom as well! Small world, pun intended.

When we were kids, it was easier to travel during off school days. Places were not nearly as crowed. This is especially true of WDW. When we went in the 70's at Christmas and Easter, there was only MK and only American tourists. We could go and have a moderate crowd. Now, we have many more foreign travelers. More Americans travel on vacation as well. If you go during school vacation, you are lucky to even get into MK.

Hear hear!!! You only live once and time passes quick. And children are not young for very long.
ValDisney- we will be there Oct 17th- 22nd. Hopefully the Halloween Party will fall on the 20th or 21st. We will see you there!

Now that I have a son in high school, we could never take him out for a week--he's too unfocused, and would never catch up. Seize the moments while you can, before it affects their education, because it will be a long dry spell when they're older
