My family and I were not that impressed with the YC & BC Resorts

When my family and I were in WDW we decided to visit the Yacht Club and Beach Club since it had been a few years since we did and because one of the Cast Members working on the Atrium Club use to work the Club Level at the Yacht Club, so we thought ok if we visit them maybe we might want to stay at one of those locations in the future. After seeing them my family and I thought there was no atmosphere, especially in the lobby's of each Resort. I admit on the outside they both look amaizing, however we just thought the isnde was very boring. Maybe we have become use to the hustle and bustle of the Contemporary and how lively the Polynesian is since we are staying there this December, however we came to conclusion the Yacht & Beach Club were not for us, so I guess you can call it different storkes for different folks. I understand from a lot of threads that a lot of people like the Yacht & Beach Club so this is not a shot at any of you, I am just expressing my feelings of what my family and I thought when visiting there.

That's why there are so many resorts to pick from, something for everyone. There is no excuse, at least not in Disney's eyes :lmao: , to stay offsite when they have such a varied selection. When we stayed in the Contemporary, we thought it was sort of loud, what with the many restaurants and and the monorail station inside. With the right discounts, we would go again, but we like a more peaceful setting to relax. Again, something for everyone.

I would have to agree, there is something to suit everyones personal liking.
Now if they would only build a resort with a Jessica Rabbit theme....

I absolutely love the Poly too, & on my first trip to the BC I thought the same thing. After I stayed there though, I fell in love with the BC too. A lot of people love the WL, & I just am not into that theme.

My oldest DD was named after Jessica Rabbit!!

Just the Jessica...

Well, everyone does have their own personal views and opinions! I am looking forward to my YC stay, after staying at the Poly a few times and the GF..even a value!!!! lol
Personally, while the CR doesnt appeal to me visually...until I spend a night there, I dont want to say I dont like it. It wouldnt be my first choice...but until I experience it..I wont say it looks like a big toaster:)

That means it will be easier for me to get a ressie next time at the BC....Phew.:)

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: A big toaster! :lmao: :lmao: It really is personal taste. I have never cared for the sterility of the CR. Love the POLY. Love the BC because I love beaches. Love the POR -think the POFQ is too "tight" somehow. Fell in love with the BWI - never expected to - I was settling because I couldn't get into the BC - and it will always be my favorite resort now for solo trips. Just something about it - even though I don't like its pool...GF is too frou frou for me, though I love its restaurants and Christmas decorations. Love the AKL, just not its location... and so on....

A word of caution though...it is very hard to pick up on the character of a resort from a brief visit. I had the same impression of the YC/BC when I first saw it. I walked the resort grounds, had lunch at Beaches and Cream, and really wondered what all the hype was about. Then I stayed there the following summer and fell in love with the YC, but it took a day or two of real exploring for the real personality of the resort to become apparent. So don't let your first impressions of a resort keep you from missing out on a new experiance!

I agree with everyone else here. There is a choice for everyone at WDW. I loved the Poly so much and always dreamed of staying there one day. Well, once I did - I decided never again. The lobby bar area near Ohana's that I initally loved so much became a huge PIA when I wanted to get a drink or relax - guests of Ohana's overrule that place and leave Poly guests no bar to sit at. The pool that looked so cool when we visited was filled to the gills with people and kids that all you could do was tread water in one place and hope no one splashes you. The food court, or whatever that tiny place was called always had a long line late at night. I NEED FOOD NOW!!! :rotfl:

Now POP on the other hand, I went in with mixed feelings and ended up LOVING that resort. Wasn't a fan of the buses some of the time, but overall, it was everything we expected it to be and then some. Friendly staff, awesome food court, lots of pools and lots of Disney vibes :goodvibes

I am one of the few people who loves OKW as well. It isn't a place I would pick all the time but when I want to actually relax like I am truly on a vacation, I would stay there again. It was perfect with a little one.

Coronado - I went in with high expectations and they matched every one of them. The problem is, I have been having trouble considering a mod lately. It seems to be only deluxe or value for me. Otherwise I would do Coronado again in a heartbeat.

Anyway, I have visited BC and Boardwalk and while I would love to play in the BC pools, I think I would prefer Boardwalk over YC/BC. I just love Boardwalk from the lobby to the well, boardwalk, lol. That will be the next deluxe I try.

After much thought we decided on the BWI over YC, mostly because I like the way the resort looked in the pictures, lol. Glad to see you validate that decision, it's one I've been going back and forth over.

OP, did you get a chance to visit the BWI? And what are your thoughts if you did?

I stayed at BC for a week, it was a really good stay - enjoyed it, but the lobby was terrible (other than Art, the greeter :) )

I still like it better than the Contemporary though, that lobby is like being at the Mall

I like the AK Lobby best (for atmosphere.)

It's understandable. We love them, though. Love the pool, the decor and the overall ambiance. Then again, we're hard pressed to find things we don't like outside of prices, but who likes those?

We visited YC a few weeks ago and were very pleased. They've done a good job on upkeep and the service was excellent. In a few weeks we're trying WL for the first time and see what that's like. There's a place that's simply impressive from the stops I've made there to check it out. Should be fun.

Cheers!

Totally understandable. Every one has their favorites and their "just ok" resorts.

I agree that it is hard to tell if you will love a resort or not until you stay there, a visit alone, in my experience, insn't enough to give you a flavor of the resort. I will say, however, that my dh wasn't impressed with the YC/BC when we visited while staying at the BWI. I still would like to stay there, just to see for myself, though!

I love teh YC lobby. I dont really care for BC except for Art.
I think the pool their is overrated. ITs cool but really hard to watch small kids at and I was constantly chasing them around. I think when my kids are older I would enjoy it more.

I've visited the BC and the YC and they are nice resorts. My main issue is since I live in the Northeastern US, I'm not all that intrigued by the decor and theme. The BC is gorgeous and Art the Greeter is a treasure but it doesn't have the pull of the POLY, CR or the AKL for me. :)

To each his own . . . dh and I love the Yacht Club lobby. We could spend hours looking at that amazing globe of the world, showing the "known" world as it had been mapped a couple of hundred years ago.

As for the Poly . . . it's a fun hotel but, honestly, it looks stuck in a 1970's time warp. I half expect to see the Brady Bunch walking through the lobby.

So, it's a good thing there are lobbies for all tastes!

I like the atmosphere of the Yacht and Beach clubs. To me the Contemporary reminds me of every major hotel I have stayed in. The Poly to me seems like a throwback to the Brady Bunch but that's cool. I like the GF also.

:rotfl2: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl: A toaster. That is so funny and that is exactly what it looks like. I have no desire to stay at the CR unless I was able to get a very, very, very cheap rate. Even then.... Our family loves the BC. I have never stepped foot in the YC, so I can't say anything about that. For me, the BW doesn't appeal because the decor of the rooms is a little too overwhelming for me. Too fussy I guess. We love the BC so much that we couldn't give it up for our upcoming trip. We are doing a split stay between the BC and the Poly.

Truthfully, last summer while staying at the Boardwalk we walked over to the YC/BC to eat at Beaches and Cream and we thought the same thing. We thought, how boring!! But, we then decided to go ahead and try it for 9 nights this past July and we ended up loving it. The building and rooms were lovely. We would definately stay there again.
