My family and I were not that impressed with the YC & BC Resorts

So I won't bash the Contemporary, because everyone has their own tastes. CR has actually grown on me gradually since the room refurb, but since I have not stayed there I can't give an accurate opinion of how much I would really like the resort.

As many others on this thread have already stated, I too was not impressed the first time we visited the YC/BC resort. And we were even staying at POFQ at the time, and were glad we were there! But, we had the opportunity to make a trip to WDW with my wife's family and wanted to stay in a good location and since her brothers & sister were in their early teens, we thought that the Epcot/Boardwalk area would be a good choice. And since it was May, we knew there would be a lot of swimming going on, so we chose the YC. From that point on it became one of our favorite resorts.

I think, other than the pool, the real strong point of the YC/BC is the location and the amount of activities right there and within walking distance, and until you've stayed there you don't realize how great of a place it really is. Oh, and the service is very good there as well. I'd put it second only behind the GF in terms of service. (Before I get flamed on the service thing, this is just my opinion.)

Our family spent 8 days at the BC last month, and really loved it. It's true that is different than the Poly--I don't think anything compares to the Polynesian. It's my all time favorite hotel, and I have the best memories there.

There were no long walks to anything--not the beach, not the pool, the gift shop or marketplace, not the marina--nothing. We felt comfortable letting our older kids go off to the pool, the boardwalk, the arcade--our 15 year old went to EPCOT by himself one day, and walked back from MGM one evening when the line for the boat was LONGGGGGGG.

I think it's great to be on the monorail, especially with young children who need naps during the day, but unless I just absolutely wanted to experience the theme of another resort, I would probably book one of the Boardwalk area hotels the next time, especially in the summer. I would like to try WL in the winter, though :)

Our family LOVED the YC! We have stayed at Poly, it was OK, won't go back. Have been to CR a few times (I stayed there as a child in the 70's when it was contemporary!). My family says no way do they like it there. We're trying BWI in Jan. We love the Boardwalk area in general so we'll try the resort. :goodvibes

No problem if you don't like it - there are many resorts to choose from.

I think the Yacht and Beach Club offer the most relaxing accomodations on the property behind Animal Kingdom Lodge. I love the little nooks the Beach Club has with pastel paint and big comfy chairs and sofas. I also like the art work throughout both.

But I can see why for someone who lives on the East Coast that they would be a bit ordinary. But for a midwest girl like me - I love them.

I agree...being from the midwest...anything that has beach included intrigues me..lol!! Ok..Chicago has beaches.;..but not the same!!!
And again, to the OP, meant no disrespect to your beloved CR:) Just stating is doesnt appeal to me , but wont knock it til I try it:)

After much thought we decided on the BWI over YC, mostly because I like the way the resort looked in the pictures, lol. Glad to see you validate that decision, it's one I've been going back and forth over.

OP, did you get a chance to visit the BWI? And what are your thoughts if you did?

We stayed at the BW on our last visit, & it is wonderful. The pool was fun for the kids, & walking the boardwalk was so much fun. It was also so nice, that we could walk to Epcot, & MGM. We also tried the ESPN club for the first time, & I thought the food was really really good. My kids loved being able to play video games too while we ate. It is a very lively resort.

ITs cool but really hard to watch small kids at and I was constantly chasing them around. I think when my kids are older I would enjoy it more.

very good point about the BC that I might not have thought about. I would thinks kids 10 and older would be a better fit for moms/dads to actually be able to relax.

As for the Poly . . . it's a fun hotel but, honestly, it looks stuck in a 1970's time warp. I half expect to see the Brady Bunch walking through the lobby.

That is so funny, every time I go to the Poly I am going to look for the Brady Bunch :lmao:

I also agree about the layout of Stormalong Bay. Our last stay there in April '06 I was still uncomfortable letting the kids out of my sight and they were 8 & 10 (almost 9 & 11). I think it intimidated them a bit too, they made Dad stay over where they were. This trip they're older but with it being New Years I don't know how much swimming they'll get to do. We also enjoy the central location, that was DH's reasoning behind switching there from WL, which he always says he wants to stay at again but we always seem to wind up changing our reservation from there to a resort with larger rooms for some reason, go figure. The location with direct access to two parks can't really be beaten, except by the Poly, which, as others have stated, wasn't our favorite for some reason. I agree also with the other posters that say that that is why they have so many different resorts, to provide a variety of theming and amenities to appeal to everyone :)

I love the BWI
we stayed BC concierge last year and loved the room and staff. I just think the lobby is so small. Especially when you are used to the GF WL and some of the other lobbys.

We loved the appearance of the Epcot resorts (BC, YC & BWI) even before we stayed there. Now, we are hooked! I have never stayed at the CR and probably won't due to its appearance, so concrete and cold! Especially since we stay during the holiday season. Just our opinion!

Considering your name is CR Resort fan 4 Life, it's not surprising. I've never stayed there but it looks fantastic.
