What's a cool gift for a six year old boy? I'm at a loss for what to get him. He's such a good kid with a big heart, but many times gets lost in the shuffle of his 2 older sisters and little brother, that we haven't had the chance to plan his party yet. I feel terrible, and want to make him feel special. Any ideas? What kind of gifts do you get for your kids? Do you have parties? ( Parties at home? or at party factories like chuckee cheeses? :scared1:) Do you take them out? my DD's have had sleep overs bowling / movie parties / build a bears/... but I just don't know what we should do? We got his sister an IPOD and let her have a few friends sleep over for her last birthday ,I would say normally we don't spent over $100 on a gift, but she also got straight a's on her report card all year, so we said we would)... & last year we went to Disney on his other sister's birthday. I don't want him to feel cheated.... So.. what do you think would be a good gift for a six year old.. and on average, what do you think you usually spend on your kids birthdays...

Happy Birthday to your DS! Our DD is turning 6 this June, as well. :)

We got the neighbor boy down the street Walkie-Talkies for his 6th birthday and I think he really liked those.

For our DD we let her pick a location for her party each year -- she's done Chuck-E-Cheese, Playstation, a campout in the backyard, birthday at the Ballpark (we have a minor league park where you can have birthday parties during the game and they put your child up on the screen and wish them Happy Birthday.) There's a local place called Planet-X that has miniature golf, rock climbing walls, video games, etc. -- a lot of DD's friends have parties there. I think all would be fun for a 6-year old boy.

She usually invites about 5-7 friends. I'd say we spend around $100-$150.

Our DS will be 7 in June. For his birthday last year he got a new bike because his old one was too small. Some of the things he got for Christmas from us/grandparents were Star Wars legos, video games for his DS, his own fish tank for his room, and a real basketball goal. This year we're redoing his room for his birthday. He has the same monkey room that he had when we first moved into this house when he was 3 so we're redoing his room into a sports themed room as his present. :)

We usually let him pick somewhere to have his birthday party. Last year we did a bowling party. We've also done skating, bounce house, Chuck E. Cheese. I think on average the party has cost us around $200 or so. This year he just wants to have a couple of friends sleep over.

my twins turned 6 in march. this year they wanted to have an at-home party with a clown/magician that they had seen at a friend's party, so that is what we did. it went very well! when my eldest was 6 he wanted a bowling party. very cool, and a ton of fun. even if you didn't plan a party, if he likes to bowl you could always quickly see if some friends of his are available for bowling. some other parties we have had or gone to have been at sports clubs or swimming pools.

what are your son's interests?

money is tight for us this year, so instead of birthday presents per se, we got a guinea pig for the family. its our first pet and everyone agreed they would love to get him in lieu of gifts.

the birthday child (or adult!) gets to pick where we eat on their birthday and there is cake and lots of fussing/happy birthdays.

DS6 loves cars and trucks. I know most kids his age do, too, but he never seems to tire of them. outside toys are always a huge hit at this age.

good luck and happy birthday to your DS!!!!!!

Happy Birthday to your little one.
How about making a special day, the Whole day....I mean starting with signs/balloons hanging up in the kitchen when he wakes up and favorite breakfast or better yet, a Backwards day! Ya know, a fun dinner for breakfast etc...like fries and a burger or pizza....then plan a movie, bowling, A HUGE Ice Cream for lunch instead of a meal, then some game time with the family and a small cake after a Pancake Dinner! :rotfl2:......As far as cost.....we won't go there... I am not budget minded that way :rotfl2: but you certainly can get him a few smaller gifts or one bigger one ...whatever you think he'd enjoy....when you said you "forgot" to plan something, it made me sad...they grow up so very fast....enjoy every day! Wishing him a Magical day!

Love the backwards day!!

Last year we did Chuckie Cheese, I didn't buy him a gift , that was his gift. A big party with friends , he got lots of gifts. But we did extra on the actual day of bday, special food, and another cake.

Only one year did I spend a HUGE amount .. maybe 500.00 and that was for 3 yrs and I started his Thomas the Tank engine habit. We also had a quiet party at home, with just family and cake.

Does he have a DS yet, that is always a good gift.

This year he is leaning towards a sleepover , which wont cost much. Pizza and movies , plenty of play outside in the sprinklers so I will prob get him a nice gift. Not sure what though, maybe just a cpl of new DS games, since I don't buy them but at Christmas, Easter and one for end of school report card.

I don't have any suggestions, but I just wanted to say Happy Birthday to your son, and that I'm enjoying reading all the ideas. My sons are a lot older, and I miss the days of going to Toys R Us to buy them gifts.

:bday:If he likes cars or trains at all get Geo Trax. Our boys love them even the 17 year old. They are a blast to play with and its different every time we set up the layouts.\\

Happy birthday to your ds!!

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. He is very excited about his big day. We're sending in cupcakes and ice cream to his Kindergarten class. and of course we'll have cake with the neighbors. I think he decided he wants to bring his 2 "BFFLs" ( he got that from his sisters) to play mini golf. but we can't do it until Sunday but he's ok with that. As far as the gift, I like the DS idea. I hadn't thought of that. And he LOVES to play cars and trucks.. so we never have enough hot wheels and tracks,
