My dress doesnt fit and I am panicing!!!

Hi everyone.

Just came on to say that my dress doesn't fit. I am at the same weight i was when I bought it but my mom and me just couldn't get the dress on. The girls at David's Bridal when i bought it must have really pulled it tight. I have been crying all morning and I don't know what to do. My wedding is in 2 weeks. I am so upset, just wanted to post. We are going over to Davids Bridal in about 1 hour when they open and i am praying they will be nice and helpful or I will just die.

I used to work at David's Bridal and they will do everything they can to help you.

What dress did you buy? Was it from the sale (clearance) rack or one they still have in stock? If it is still in stock, they may exchange yours for another size.

I don't work for them anymore, and I'm not speaking for them. But the store I worked in was always very helpful.

Hi there. Thank you for saying that, i love the dress i got and don't wanna get another one. I sure hope they can get me my dress within the next week or so.

I thought they said they didn't keep dresses in stock but maybe i am mistaken. I sure hope i can get my dress in a bigger size.

Why not taking it to someone other than David's Bridal? Is it possible that they messed up?

My friend was given the WRONG DRESS by David's Bridal... it was the same style, etc., but nearly 4 sizes too big (like giving a size 16 to a size 6 girl). Why not taking it to someone other than them in case they are the problem?

Can you get slimming underwear, like the bodyshapers? Purchase a few different pairs, leave the tags on, and put the dress and all your undergarments on with them.. see if you can get it to fit that way. Return any that don't work.

Another option- you still have 2 weeks, which is a lot of time to fix this- go on a crash diet? I know they aren't healthy, but if it is in an area that you can loose the inches or whatever has changed, why not try? Also, what about one of those weight loss body wrap systems they do at spas? I have heard miracles happen with them.

You're not coming up on that time of the month, are you? If it's through the middle, the bloating, etc., could be affecting the way the dress fits.

Be very, very careful having anyone alter your dress at this point! The horror stories from David's are not few and far between when it comes to alterations. Look into some other options before having them take a needle and thread to the dress (you might run out of time if you do)

Somehow or rather, I knew this was your dres... it's mine, too!

BE VERY, VERY, VERY CAREFUL with that lace! If they mess up, there could be hell to pay. I'm having the neckline reconstructed and it's been 3 months in the works with an incredible seamstress (she can make wedding dresses into prom gowns and back again).

Where isn't the dress fitting? Specifically....

If you are not able to exchange the dress, you might consider going to a really good undergarment store and take your dress with you. I did not get a body shaper style but I do know that when it was on it took at least 2-3 inches off my waist. It was also super comfortable and fit perfectly under my dress. I probably spent $40 for it, but it fit better than any other undergarment I've ever had.

i am on atkins and had lost the weight i gained but the dress will still be too tight i believe even if i lose more weight and i don't want that worriment if i don't have to. Just hoping for a bigger size. I don't know if they screwed up the size cuz the tag says size 16 which is what i ordered.

If it's through the mid-section, I would seriously consider looking into the shapewear underwear. If you don't want to, you do have the option of exchange at David's since you didn't have it altered (thank goodness for small favors!)

I know you mentioned you were on Atkins. Atkins is one of those diets that as soon as you go off it just the slightest bit, you put the weight right back on. For most people, the fat they loose (and therefore gain back) the quickest on Atkins is right around the middle. It's a reason more and more people are telling brides not to do the Atkins program.

One last thought (and a rather scientific one)... when you're stressed, your body releases a hormone called Cortisol. Cortisol holds fat despite any amount of dieting, exercise, etc., around the midesction, butt, and upper tighs. If you're experiencing unusual amounts of stess, if could be the overload of the Cortisol. My mom is kind of dealing with this right now...

It will all work out! Don't get yourself too worked up about this... you stil lhave so much time! When we found out the girl's dress was the wrong size, it was the day of the wedding and 3 hours from ceremony start- and we got it worked out!

I had bought my dress at David's bridal and 1 month before the wedding decided it wasn't the dress for me. Luckily I exchanged it and it's a good thing because it didn't fit anymore! I had lost about 15-20 lbs with wedding stress. They were absolutely fantastic. And I did find that the same dress could fit differently. I tried on 3 or 4 of the same dress to find one that fit. Just relax, and breathe deep! I am sure they will be able to help you and you will look beautiful!!

Something like this happend to me and I got a corset to go under my dress. Worked like a charm I looked great, the dress fit and it sure made me stand up ram-rod tall. your not going to be very comfy for the most part but wedding dresses are not comfy :-(

quick things that are not good for you but will pull off some water weight (most likely what the middle area is ;-)

duretics for a week
no cheating on the diet not one bit, Atkins does some pretty wild stuff to your body (IMHO not healthy but thats me) and any cheating messes yourself up. All the showers and little celebrations can quickly undermine all your hard work.

Get good sleep and plenty of water, no sodas, coffee etc

I would also recommend trying a corset that could sinch you nice and tight in the mid section.

Something like this happened to my now cousin in law. She order a dress and actually lost 20 pounds between the time she was measured and the time it came in and figured she would have to get the dress altered to be smaller, but she couldn't even fit in it. I'm not saying this is what David's did with your gown, but apparently some places order dresses just too small on purpose so that you have to pay the expensive alterations fee (b/c it is just that little bit smaller that they can let it out). My cousin in law was furious and refused to pay the fee, but they wouldn't release the dress until she did (it was about a $300 fee!). Hopefully you'll have better luck!

hi everyone. Well, i went to davids bridal and luckily the woman who helped me in the first place was there (by chance, wasn't supposed to be in until 2pm and someone called out sick, lucky me!!!). And luckily the next size up in my dress happened to be there and they also got me a better bra for underneath. The one i had was padded which made it so much bulkier. So, she got me a nice non-padded one which still pulled me in a little bit and everything fit beautiful then. She also was so wonderful.

I will continue on my atkins, i did atkins before and lost alot of weight and have maintained a good chunk of it actually. And i am actually down a few pounds from where i was when i bought the dress in the first place. Guess i just didn't think of the fact that there will only be my mom trying to get the dress on me the morning of the wedding instead of 2 experienced bridal shop women. Anyways, this dress fits better anyhow and we can all breathe easier. I am so relieved.
