Ok, I know I've never posted here before, but I am always reading, and BFF is ooofairyluvxxx if you've heard of her.

We are putting my dog to sleep tomorrow morning. :guilty: I am really upset, because we have had her my whole life.

She is a Golden who is blind, deaf, and has cancer, but has been happy up until now. You can tell the last few days that she does not want to eat, and she cannot really get up on her own...

I dunno why I am posting this, maybe I just need a few kind words

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about your precious pet. We had to have out cat put to sleep exactly one year ago today, so I totally understand how you feel!

Our cat had cancer of the jaw. We took him to speciality clinics, had him on chemotherapy and radiation, and it worked for awhile, but then the cancer just took over. Believe me, I know what a difficult decision it is to make! You want to keep your pet as long as you can, but don't want to let him suffer. Just how to decide when to let go? Its a decision only you can make, and obviously you've come to that conclusion. I agonized over the decision--did I even have the right to take his life, regardless of the circumstances? Well, its like I explained to my children, we're given domain over animals from God, its up to us to make responsible decisions for them. Something I read concerning euthanasia that helped me "...better a day too soon than a day too late". At first I didn't agree with that--I didn't want to take away any good time he had left, however, I didn't want his last memories to be pain and suffering. Its the responsible, loving thing to do. Your last gift to your pet is the most difficult, but the most caring.

Here's some websites that might help

www.rainbowbridge.com You can create a memorial for your pet here. Its $25/year. At first I didn't think it would help that much, but it does. I just visited his site tonight, its comforting to have someplace to go, even if its in cyberspace.

Also, there are several yahoo groups that I found helpful. They are for cats, but I'm sure there's similar ones for dogs. Go to Yahoo and type in canine cancer, canine grief support, I'm sure you'll find ones to suit your situation.

I do understand how gut wrenching this is for you, having gone through it myself. One thing someone told me was to be strong, don't cry in front of your pet, don't let him know you're sad or he won't be able to go in peace. Don't let his last memories be of your sadness. I don't know if you plan to be with your pet during the process or not, its your choice, but we stayed with our kitty. Actually, we had a vet come to the home to perform the euthanasia, but its hard to find someone to do that! He was sleeping in the bedroom, she came in, my husband picked him up and cuddled him while the vet gave him a quick injection in his hindquarters that he didn't even feel which rendered him quickly unconscious, then the vet found a vein in his leg, inserted an IV, and ran an infusion with the lethal drugs. It was all very quick and peaceful, I was holding his paw and it just went limp and I knew he was gone. Regardless of whether you decide to stay during the process or not, you need to know what happens so you can be at peace with it.

I'm a night owl, if you want to chat further you can pm me. Tomorrow will be a very difficlut day for you, but you are chosing to give your pet the gift of a peaceful passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you! :grouphug:

I'm so sorry! We had to put my 9 year old dog to sleep in May. It was really sad, but we're here for you if you want to talk! :grouphug:

I am so sorry to hear about your dog, I had a german shepherd for my whole life and we had to put him down due to severe arthritis, it's very hard, but its only the best for the dog.

After we had him put down I was so upset and sad. A couple months later we decided to get a puppy, he was a german shepherd mix that we rescued from a kill shelter. Puppies are a lot of work, they look so cute and adorable but you need to make sure your nice things arent out or they will chew them, they dig wholes in your yard, they like to play literally 24/7, well at least that is what my puppy did. Then one day I went to get a plastic wrapper out of his mouth that he had gotten from the rubbish so he wouldn't choke and out of no where he like attacked me, he growled and lanched at me and bit me. I didn't want to tell my parents because I didn't want to have to find him a new home or even put him to sleep :sad2: . After that he bite me in a mean way like about 4 times that week. That is when I told mt parents and showed them the bite marks. My dog eventually wouldn't even bare the sight of a kid without trying to bite them unless an adult was around, but then one day my brother was walking by him and he attacked him and my brother almost had to get stitches, it eventually got really scary living with a dog that attacked kids so we then decided it would be much better to get rid of him. My mom had talked to my dog's vet and she had said this lady in this rescue and training group took in dogs like him and was looking for a new dog. She doesn't have kids and her yard is secure so no dogs could get out. The only thing is she had other dogs, so the next day we went to my vet with my dog and met her, she had brought her other dogs and we had to see if my dog got along with him, in the back of my head I was hoping he didn't get along with them because I wanted to keep him so much, but I didn't want to be afraid of my own pet. He met the dogs and they all got along, so that night he went to her house instead of coming home with us. I took it really hard but I don't know why? He bitt me more then 5 times and he wasn't a nice dog. Just the little things reminded me of him. He used to sleep under the covers of my bed next to me and lean against my leg. That night I couldn't get to sleep at all.

A couple months went by and I wanted to get another dog. We looked everywhere but no one had dogs that got along with kids and cats(I have a pet cat). But then oen day we found a rescue near our house who had a 3 year old hound/boxer mix. My mom called the people and we met the dog. Her name is Callie. We ended up adopting her. We have had her for 3 weeks now and she is the best dog ever. Shes not only a pet dog to me but a family member. :) .

I just wanted to say I understand what you are going through, I've gone throughn it twice, and I am so sorry. It will be really hard at first, but then you realize it's only for the best.

I am sorry to hear about your dog. :sad2:

I remember when we put my dog to sleep 2 months ago.. The night before we found blood in the room she sleeps in, and thw whole night my mom was holding her, I had to cry myself to bed that night. :( The hardest part was saying good bye to her. :sad1: At school I wouldnt talk to anyone besides my best friend. I was so sad. But my dog wouldnt hardly see or hear. She was 16 years old (in human years).

I hope everything goes well. And I know what you are going threw. But now your doggy is going to heaven. And I'm really sorry. For me it was very hard to loose my dog, as it probly is to you, too. :(

Lauren How did you manage to dig this up???????!!!!!????!!!

Thanks to all of you... we have A 1 year old dog too... you can tell he's kind of sad still...

I was fine... and then I got upset yesterday because the girl from the vet who babysits our dogs came by and gave us a plaster of her paw print, flowers, and a card

Thanks!

Oh my gosh!! I feel so bad for you. It's just how life is, nothing you could do about it. I have had dogs put to sleep before too and I understand how it feels. After some time you won't feel AS bad as you probably feel now. I am giving you and your family my prayers. I hope I helped you feel a little better.
