I had to put my dog to sleep on weds evening. Since then, it has been pretty gloomy in my house. Sadie was a beagle that lived a good almost 13 yrs. I didnt know any warning signs but on monday, she just lost all appetite.Sadie loved food. she was a big girl. I threw a cookie in front of her and she didnt care. I knew something was wrong.
Took her in and doc did a blood test. Her kidneys were 80% failing and would live another 2 wks tops if done nothing. she lived a goodlife and also suffered from arthritis in her backlegs. We made the decision to put her down humanely. Still cant help from being miserable and sad. she was just apart of this family as one of my kids. it is so amazing what a difference 24 hrs makes. By habit, i looked for her at thxgiving dinner to give her table scraps. oh she woulda loved that. I'm just venting.....it helps.

I'm sorry. It's so hard to lose a beloved pet. :grouphug:

The only thing that helps me when I lose a pet....is to get another one.
Seriously....a new puppy will warm your heart.....not replacing but putting "life" back in your home:hug:

I am so sorry for your loss. It is really hard to lose a well loved pet.

:grouphug: We out our beloved Ted down a little over a year ago and I bawled like a baby on Thanksgiving morning after DH left to run in a little race (the Turkey Trot...cute huh?). I was home alone and missing my boy. :(

I'm so sorry for your loss. Beagles are my favorite-they are just so sweet and cute. We put our 3yo beagle, Sophie, down a little over a year ago. Some days are harder than others but the memories will help. If she was in pain and suffering, you did the right thing.

 I'm so sorry to hear of your loss of Sadie.

We lost our Sadie (a border collie mix) 8 yrs ago this Monday (hence why your title caught my eye) in a house fire. We had to put down our black lab mix 3 days later due to brain damage (smoke inhalation) It was the hardest thing we've had to do~although it was the right thing.

Our boxer/lab Daisy is now 11 yrs old~she was the only one to escape the fire.

Our pets are SUCH a part of our family and a part of our lives.

Sending you lots of

Thank you all for your warm thoughts. i caught myself staring out my backdoor looking to where she would normally go out to go potty. We also have 2 other dogs...Deuce and Princess.

It helps to talk to all my DIS friends!

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Our dog is 16 and and I am dreading the day.

As someone who has said goodbye to many pets and 1 very special one this year I know nothing anyone says will make it better, but we all feel your sadness......I still catch my little "Yogi" in the corner of my eye so I feel he is still with me. I found this poem comforting ...

To have loved and then said farewell, is better than to have never loved at all.
For all of the times that you have stooped and touched my head, fed me my favorite treat and returned the love that I so unconditionally gave to you.
For the care that you gave to me so unselfishly.
For all of these things I am grateful and thankful.

I ask that you not grieve for the loss, but rejoice in the fact that we lived, loved and touched each others lives. My life was fuller because you were there, not as a master/owner, but as my FRIEND.

Today I am as I was in my youth. The grass is always green, butterflies flit among the flowers and the Sun shines gently down upon all of God's creatures.
I can run, jump, play and do all of the things that I did in my youth. There is no sickness, no aching joints and no regrets and no aging.

We await the arrival of our lifelong companions and know that togetherness is forever.
You live in our hearts as we do in yours. Companions such as you are so rare and unique.
Don't hold the love that you have within yourself. Give it to another like me and then I will live forever. For love never really dies, and you are loved and missed as surely as we are.

Your Pets In Heaven

And please know that what decision you made for your pet was the right one.

The Last Battle
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this -- the last battle -- can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close -- we two -- these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.
