My dog isn't perfect, how about yours?

I've had dogs all my life. None of them were perfect. However, I must say that our current dog, a golden retriever, is the closest thing to a perfect dog that I've ever had.

I can't take credit for her--I've trained her the same way I've trained the rest. She just wants to please so very much. We saw a new vet for an emergency visit a few weeks ago. She told me as I was leaving, "That is really the sweetest, most easygoing dog I've ever seen."

We had some chewing issues when she was a puppy and a teenager which I thought she'd NEVER grow out of. Once we got those worked out, it's been smooth sailing ever since.

Mine likes to run around for hours and get sprayed by skunks.

We don't raise our kids right, we don't spend our money on the right stuff, we spend too much time online, and we don't pick the right mates. I suppose it was just a matter of time before we realized we didn't take care of our pets correctly :p

Love this thread!
Wish I had a doggie.

I have a beagle....nuff said here too :rotfl:

Heck, he can be so rotten, we had to drop out of doggie school because he was so disruptive to the rest of the class :rotfl:

But, you will never meet a sweeter dog and I couldn't imagine loving a dog more than we love him.

My kids are really well behaved. My dogs, not so much. But I figure I don't have to worry about raising the dogs to become productive citizens of our society, so I don't lose too much sleep over it. Well, I do lose sleep because of the dogs, but that's because there are three of them and they totally hog the bed. My dh and I tried to teach them to stay off the bed, but we enjoyed cuddling with them too much that we just couldn't follow through with it, so we just bought a bigger bed (that's no joke).

The dogs may not be well trained, but they sure do have us well trained :rotfl:

Mine is a Jack Russell...nuff said :rotfl::rotfl:

:rotfl2: I know what you mean, ours is a Jack Russell/Rat Terrier mix and he is a nut. He sheds everywhere no matter how many times he has been brushed, he goes crazy over the power windows in the van and goes after the windshield wipers unless it is raining.

He is very friendly to other dogs when he is off the leash, but on the leash he can't stand dogs getting in his face :confused3.

Although he is a little insane, he does truly belong to this Disney loving family. This is by his left leg on his tummy (I have done nothing to this picture except add the circle and the arrow):

Let me start by saying our labs name is Ripley. She was named after the alien in the movie Aliens because when she was little all we saw where her teeth coming towards our faces. Luckily she outgrew that. She is 11 months old now. She really only listens to me or my 20 yr old son. She doesn't listen to my husband or younger boys.
She does okay if you take her on a walk alone. If we try to walk her and the younger boys come along she is horrible. She tries to pull you out of the house and screams, yes screams, to run out in the yard so she can plow them down.
We have to crate her everytime someone comes over or she will jump all over them. She wont stop or sit if you tell her too.

She never really has a chance to eat our stuff because we don't leave her alone. She is either with one of us or crated when we are gone. One my best friends owns her mom and her sister. Her sister, Koda, has eaten countless pairs of my friends shoes and some of her scrapbooking stuff. Then again she has free reign of the house even if they are not home.

I am loving this thread!! I love hearing about other posters' dogs. It makes me feel more normal with my group. Or with 5 are we a gang? It is so refreshing, not to mention jut flat out funny, to read about the antics of other dogs. :lmao:

I have 4. A large mutt, a medium mutt, a rat terrier and a chihuahua. Individually they are all really nice dogs. As a pack, they are a nightmare. Especially if someone has the gall to walk on the sidewalk in front of our house or the back of the house or the UPS truck drives down the street or a leaf blows.... :lmao:

I love this thread!

Zippy is VERY prey driven and last winter we had a mouse in the house. So we put down glue traps BEHIND the furniture so Zip couldn't get them.....

ZippyMouseTrap1.jpg

We caught Zippy ~ several times :rotfl2:

BTW we did catch the mouse...and Zippy on the same trap. AND vegetable oil gets glue off dog's feet :rotfl:

Seriously, I should write a book!

Brandy came to us when she was 2 and she's now 13. I seriously cannot imagine our lives without her and I know DH will be a mess when she eventually does go.:guilty: But for now, she's very healthy albeit pretty lazy, stubborn and likes to sleep a lot. I guess like most old folks, right?;) She is the best dog we've ever had insofar as she listens great (don't have to leash her if we so choose), doesn't bark, bite or jump and is very well-behaved in general. She does, however, beg, likes to sleep on the furniture (which we've allowed her to do now that she's "elderly") and has a real disdain for other dogs. We've always said that she's a diva and really doesn't believe she's a dog. She's a total mush and when she sits near you (all 55 lbs of her), she just can't get close enough. There are many times where she's totally laying right on top of me. And i just happen to be her favorite. (although DH would argue that point)

Lacey is often referred to as Demon Dog on my Facebook. She barks at other dogs and jumps on people when we go out in public. She has no manners. She has VERY dominant tendencies and is VERY protective (heaven forbid I yell at "her cat" to get off the counter). She is big, clumsy, and obnoxious. She needs constant attention and if you don't pay attention to her 24/7 she paws at you with her dagger-like claws. She has dagger-like claws because she will not let anybody touch her feet. She WILL bite if somebody tries. Last time I took her to get her nails trimmed, I gave her a sedative and she still wouldn't let them touch her feet. She wouldn't even let them muzzle her. She eats all the other animals food so we've had to put a baby gate up to block off half the kitchen so she couldn't get to the cats' and the puppy's food. She gets into everything. A couple days ago my mom left her alone in the living room and when she came back, Lacey, my 60 pound shepherd mix, was standing on the kitchen counter.

She is extremely intellegent and VERY obedient. She loves doing what I ask her to (she reliably knows sit, down, wait, OK, off, drop it, leave it, take it, five, ten, shake, go to your mat, tell me, show me and we are working on several other behaviors right now). She is the sweetest, most loving dog and very outgoing (provided you don't touch her feet or attempt to restrain her if she doesn't know you). She adores my 2 pound yorkie puppy and my brother's young cat and knows to leave my other dog and my older cat alone. When I first got her, there were days that I thought she was going to have to go back to the shelter (attacked my other dog, snapped at us, had no manners). I am so glad that I didn't give up on her (I'm not sure that they would have put her up for adoption again with all the behavior problems she had). I have since done some research and found out that when I got her at a little under a year, I was her 3rd home. She was adopted from the shelter as a puppy, returned at about 5 months, then adopted and returned again at about 10 months. She has some issues but I love her dearly and she keeps my life interesting. She is one of my little shelter rejects (I work at a shelter and everyone I work with has at least one and we all compete with stories about who wins in the reject department) and I wouldn't trade her for anything.

I love this thread! It's so nice to read about all the love we share with our not so perfect pets. :rotfl:

My not so perfect girl is a golden retriever named Sadie. She is sweet and loving in every way but the poor girl is afraid of her own shadow. She is absolutely terrified of Stuart the 6 pound ball of fluff that lives next door to us. She won't even go out into our fenced back yard if she hears Stuart barking from next door. Stuart got in our yard last year and chased Sadie until I could snatch him up. Poor girl, her tail was tucked under her and she was covering some ground!

We had a tiny little mouse run across our patio one spring and I thought Sadie would have a heart attack. She ran to the door and scratched to get in. When I opened the door she didn't stop running until she was upstairs hiding on our bed. I had to go out with her each time for a week after that incident. She'd look around for the mouse before putting a paw out the door,

Sadie is our 4th golden and the first to be a momma's girl (hooray!). She will growl at my dh if he gets too close when she is next to me on the sofa although her tail will be wagging the entire time.

If someone comes to the door while my dh is home she will run to the door with her tail wagging ready to play with whoever is there. If my dh is not home it's a whole different story. You would think a band of wolves were inside waiting to tear you to pieces - yep, she's protecting her momma! :lovestruc

Our "Blacques Jacques Shillaques" aka Black Jack was named after the evil little french canadian villan off of Buggs Bunny cartoons. That should have been our first clue.

Our second clue came from puppy training at a local kennal club. Jack's father was in the class and was obviously not a puppy anymore. It was his third time through because he failed ... "sit". Oh yeah, we were in trouble.

We love him and thankfully at the age of 2 1/2 he is coming around. They make 'em cute for a reason though!:wizard:

My dog is perfect, so there. You can lay on her, tumble with her, rub her nose with your nose. She loves to be brushed, she loves baths and she loves people. Oh, and she is potty trained too. Love my dog!:goodvibes

My small furry person is Kenzie. Yes, she is my baby. We have no children and don't know if we ever will so she is my child. She is equal to a human in this house and no amount of any (in the words of Ke$ha) "blah blah blah" about how she isn't equal to a human, won't be tolerated in our home.

Kenzie is a spoiled absofreakinlutely rotten Scottish Terrier. DH had her from a tiny pup that fit in the palm of his hand. She is now 5 years old. She was trained as a puppy and understand sit, and stay. She TRIES to understand not to potty in the house but she does have an accident from time to time. She is currently trying to learn her new doggy door. She's spoiled so she still wants us to open the door for her even though she now has a door of her own.

I don't care where she doggy "doo's" when she's outside in our yard. She can "doo" anywhere she wants. We have no children playing in the yard and DH and I rarely do anything out in the grass other than mow it.

She almost never barks. She gets VERY excited when people come over but she doesn't bark. She loves busy bones, and piggy ears, and any other treats we give her. She is a treat junkie, yet maintains a healthy weight. She trough feeds but doesn't overeat. She has NO idea how to properly walk on a leash. She's way ahead of us then she's beside us nearly knocking us over, then she's behind us and she stops to smell EVERY mailbox along the way but I couldn't possibly care less. She sleeps on the bed every single night, and also climbs all over the furniture. Luckily for this lazy mom, she doesn't shed much at all, and we have leather furniture so hair doesn't stick to it. She loves bath time and will even jumop into the tub in her bathroom all on her own. Yes, I said her bathroom.

She's not perfect by a long shot but she's absolutely the best baby I could ask for and I love her rotten little self to itty bitty pieces!

We have 3 sooo not perfect dogs haha.

First, is my baby girl Lily. She is 8 years old. Knows how to sit, shake, lay down and is a beautiful Papillon. She also is snobby and stubborn. Has bladder issues, so she pees occasionally in her sleep. Also, she barks like a crazy dog when people come to the door. She is a Halloween candy survivor. Yes, she ate my sons entire bag of Halloween candy when she was a puppy. Suffered no ill effects. She has an iron gut.

Next, is our 4 year old Woofie. She is complete mutt. Supposedly, he is part Pom and rat terrior. He has giant shoulders and resembles the American Werewolf in London only 12 pounds instead. He is truly the demon dog. Once he ate 42 chapters of Genesis. He is attention starved no matter how many hours a day we love on him. Jealous of the other dogs and will push them out of his way.

Last, we have our new puppy Ozzy. He is a golden lab. So far he is doing very well. Seems very sweet. Just waiting for him to be like the others.

Mine is a Jack Russell...nuff said :rotfl::rotfl:

Same here! We love him to pieces, but I often wonder what would have happened if someone else had taken him home besides us, would they have put up with his quirks like we do?

If someone comes to the door and especially if they ring the doorbell he goes insane. The weird thing is he is fine with people in the house, he evidently just can't stand them as they come to the house :confused3 It's like stranger danger if they are at the front door, but oh look we have a new family member if they are in the house. We work around this by having him go in a bedroom when they get here and then a few minutes later let him out. The sound of a UPS/Fedex/Scwanns truck drives him crazy too, I'm sure because he knows it is followed by the doorbell ringing :rolleyes1

He is very protective of "his" property. Anyone or anything in our yard (front or back), the sidewalk out front and the street need to be barked at, be it a leaf blowing by, person, animal and sometimes just the air. Take him for a walk though and he has no issue with meeting dogs out and about, he can even be a little timid of them

His biggest thing though is he is a whiner, when he's nervous, excited, happy, sad, lonely, bored, playing... etc. You get the picture. We thought it was sweet at first, "awww... he misses his siblings and parents". Five years later we now know it is just his way of expressing himself... all. the. time.

He was very easy to potty train, so I am thankful for that. Only one accident in the house and that wasn't really his fault, he was playing and didn't take the time to let us know. He knows how to tell time and lets us know when it is 8 pm each night and that we are late getting him his popcorn. He will go sit by the microwave and (wait for it).... whine.

He's not a snuggler, his personality is more cat-like, kind of aloof unless there is something for him in return. Once a day he will sit on my lap, after his nightly popcorn treat is done. Not sure why, but I take what I can get :lmao:

Like I said, we love him but I do wonder if anyone else would.

I love those ears! :lovestruc And what a face - no wonder she's spoiled!

Awwww thanks!

DH just told me hey why didn't you mention her grooming? So I told him I would mention that she doesn't mind being groomed at all. She lays down and falls asleep while I buzz her fur on her back and allows me to trim the fur in between her paw pads and on her ears etc. For years we had her professionally groomed and they would tell us she was the best doggie they had ever groomed and we always wondered why she was so awesome. This past year I taught myself how to grrom her and now I see that she just turns into a big sleepy lazy ragdool and doesn't give a hoot what you're doing to her. LOL! No wonder they always said she was so good!!! :lmao::lmao::lmao:

She actually needs to be groomed really badly in the picture about but I couldn't find a good picture of her freshly groomed right off hand.
