I've had dogs all my life. None of them were perfect. However, I must say that our current dog, a golden retriever, is the closest thing to a perfect dog that I've ever had.
I can't take credit for her--I've trained her the same way I've trained the rest. She just wants to please so very much. We saw a new vet for an emergency visit a few weeks ago. She told me as I was leaving, "That is really the sweetest, most easygoing dog I've ever seen."
We had some chewing issues when she was a puppy and a teenager which I thought she'd NEVER grow out of. Once we got those worked out, it's been smooth sailing ever since.

.

But for now, she's very healthy albeit pretty lazy, stubborn and likes to sleep a lot. I guess like most old folks, right?
She is the best dog we've ever had insofar as she listens great (don't have to leash her if we so choose), doesn't bark, bite or jump and is very well-behaved in general. She does, however, beg, likes to sleep on the furniture (which we've allowed her to do now that she's "elderly") and has a real disdain for other dogs. We've always said that she's a diva and really doesn't believe she's a dog. She's a total mush and when she sits near you (all 55 lbs of her), she just can't get close enough. There are many times where she's totally laying right on top of me. And i just happen to be her favorite. (although DH would argue that point)
