My dog is sick and has been since last night. She threw up part of a kitchen sponge that apparently looked tasty earlier in the day. She didn't eat (or ask for) any dinner last night- threw up a couple of more times in the night and did not eat breakfast this morning (it's still in her dish). She has had some water and is peeing. I have a 4:45 appt for her at the vet. My dh is on the fence about her going- He is convinced she will be okay and we will be wasting the money. What do you think??

my thoughts on vet visits is "better safe than sorry!" Your DH is probobly right, it will most likely pass, but you never know! There still may be some sponge in her tummy that is making her not eat. You are doing the right thing mom, you're just taking care of your baby! Let us know how it goes!

Definitely take her to the vet! The sponge could be blocking her colon. Hopefully it will pass on it's own but if she's not eating she should be seen by the vet.

She's a beautiful dog. Hope she's feeling better soon.

Better to be safe than sorry.
If she ate the sponge she might have gotten into something else also. You just never know.
She is a Beautiful little girl.
Hope she starts feeling better soon.

Sounds like something my little cocker would do. She had intestinal problems a while back(blood in the stool) and the vet, concerned about a blockage, told me that if she started throwing up, to bring her back. I think an appointment is a good idea.

My dog swallowed a peach pit in October and threw it up the next summer(it was much smoother by then!!!:p) You don't know what is sitting in your dogs stomach.

Our dog had an ear infection recently so I used the medcine from the last infection instead of going to the Vet. Well it was a different type of infection so the medicine didn't work. When I finally took her to the vet the told me to always come in when you think there is a problem.

Good luck!

I would be worried about the rest of the sponge causing a blockage. If it were my dog, we'd definitely be going to the vet. ::yes::

I hope your furbaby is feeling better soon!

For a foster dog we usually wait for a few days if the dog is still drinking water... but it's always better to be safe than sorry... and to be honest, when it comes to my own personal dogs, I freak out about everything (thank goodness they really have any problems.) I would definatly see the vet.

:wave2: princess:

Sponges can cause lots of problems!

miste76---How come you wait to take the for foster dogs? Just curious...

Miste76 I am wondering the same thing.... Why wait if it is a foster dog?

oh, the poor baby... I'd be going to the vet too... better to be safe!

Wouldn't you know it (This is the DD btw.) The second we got in the car, she ate the popcorn off the floor I spilled:rolleyes: But the Optomitris's office had my appointment all screwed up, and that took until 5, so she didn't end up going, but she started eating small amounts, and isn't as lathargic as she has been. We may take her tomorrow if she's still sluggish.

I spent $200 a few weeks ago to make sure Monty was okay after ingesting a tiny bit of silica gel. He was. Was it a waste? Absolutely not. I'd have canceled my upcoming trip in a heartbeat if I had to. Monty's life depends on me.

TAKE HER. Making sure a pet who depends on you is okay is never a waste of money.

Thanks for the update, Twinkles. If she is eating and keeping it down that is a good sign. Sounds like this too shall pass. ;)

But if she stops eating or throws up again (or what little she is eating doesn't come out the other end ;)) she should definitely see the vet in the morning. Hopefully she is feeling much better. Just keep her away from those sponges!! :p ;)

Edited to add: I'm curious about waiting to take a foster dog to the vet too.

Shiloh sends big wet get well kisses for Maddy!

She ate her breakfast this morning- it's almost like she was "afraid" to eat. She still hasn't pooped but it's COLD here this morning and she doesn't like going out in the cold or rain- plus she hasn't eaten since Monday morning. If she doesn't go by this afternoon I'm going to take her. She is much more playful than she was Monday night. Boy oh boy does she stink though- I wonder if she has some kind of dog stomach virus???

She thanks Shiloh for the kisses :love2: Right back at him!!

:faint:

Right now I'm feeling lucky my dogs don't eat strange things like some of those mentioned in this thread! Hold that thought - my new pup may prove me wrong here. Previously we never had Matchbox cars and plastic vegetables around the house...
