for it's long standing record of most lightning strikes.

It's been raining and thundering for the past week. And she's absolutly terrified every time she hears it.

Most the time I tie her leash to my foot to keep her from running all over the place, and so she'll lay down in one spot. But the way the computer is, I don't want her mixed up in the wiring.

She's laying on the couch right now. not on top of me though. hopefully she'll stay there. But I've heard it can be bad to cuddle them when they get freaked out like that because you saying it's ok for them to act that way during a thunderstorm.

Florida lightening is hard on dogs. Mine hates the lightening. Oddly, we hear Wishes every night and it doesn't bother him at all. The first rumble of thunder and he starts freaking out. If I'm not home, he hides under my desk. I come home to find him cowering there. When I'm home and it thunders, he is glued to my side. I did get some pills from the vet for him, but they take too long to take effect.

Good luck with you puppy. You are not alone.

I don't blame him. I hate Florida too. Being from the Deep South, I thought I knew about thunderstorms. :scared1: Not so. South Florida has the scariest storms imaginable. I couldn't wait to get back to Georgia where we have normal bad thunderstorms.

well her.... and i've grown up in florida, lived in Miami till I moved here in 06. And sometimes they can get down right scary for me too.

But it's hard explaining to a dog it will eventually end.

When we lived down there we had a lake out back. Lightning struck way to close to the house for us once. It fried my computer. The poor pup ran under my desk and sat on my feet. Poor thing has been terrified of thunder ever since. :( He'll still run under my desk and sit if I'm there. If I'm elsewhere, he runs right to me.

My dog has been going deaf for the past year or so. I think she's almost completely deaf now. Best thing that ever happened to her. There are no more fireworks, no more thunder. It was the sound that bothered her. It's the lightning that your dog is afraid of?

My old dog used to freak out with the storms here. He never came to me but hide in the smallest darkest spot he could find. He was small so he went into the bathroom behind the toliet. Oddly enough it was actually louder in there because of the way the bathroom vent worked. :confused3 He was not a native Florida Dog but rather Chicago where we had some crazy storms as well.

My dog now is a 7 year old stray hound that we rescued from the shelter. He could care less if it thunders. I am actually concerned how the dog is going to handle the cold up North when we move next week.

This past week we have had scary storms but only one day did it wake my toddler up from his nap.

Why do the storms start exactly 20 minutes after DS goes down for his nap????

She's starting to get old... probably 8 or 9, we adopted as an adult dog so we have no clue.

I think it's the sound because she hates it when I take her with me to pick Kari up at work and she has to sit through the fireworks. And we're stuck in this itty bitty truck, but she still freaks out. At least she's more contained then.
But for some reason if I'm driving through a really bad storm, she's fine as can be.
