Lucky is a beagle. We had him boarded from Thurs thru Mon. My wife's birthday party was this past weekend and people were coming and going getting the house ready and so forth, thought it would be better to board him.

On Sunday the clinic called and said there was a problem, Lucky had been bitten by a German Shepherd and required stitches. My wife went right over to pick the poor guy up and bring him home. The dog that bit him is owned by the Vet who owns the place, he is a also a client of mine. My wife was very upset, the Doc was very sorry.

Things happen.

I would expect his treatment and boarding was all free of charge.
You're right, things happen, but I would not board him there again.

No kidding. I would say I'm surprised that he had two unrelated dogs loose at the same time, but given how some people are about their supposedly perfect pets I'm really not surprised. I'll bet if you asked the vet he would say that his dog had never bitten anything, never showed aggression, and was a darn near perfect dog.

At the least this visit should be gratis and then I'd be looking for another vet/

Your poor puppy dog :sad2: I grew up with a beagle who is the absolute love of my life ( besides DH!), and he was bitten.. so I know what it's like to have a doggy in pain, and it's just the worst thing to have to see. I hope Lucky makes a quick recovery and starts howling again soon.

Accidents do happen, but I personally wouldn't feel comfortable letting a beagle play in the same room as a very large dog. It doesn't matter how friendly either dog is.. most bites don't come from malice.. they often happy when a bigger or stronger dog is playing too rough with a smaller doggy.

Poor Lucky. Our dog was attacked by our neighbor's dog a couple years ago, our dog is 12 lbs, their dog is a Rottweiler that got loose. She used to love going to the dog park and playing with other dogs, she now will go to the dog park but won't move more than a foot away from us. She ended up with a bad infection that caused a heart murmur so keep an eye on Lucky for any swelling at the bit site.

I don't have a dog, but as soon as I read the original post, I thought this exact same thing: I'm not paying for the boarding, and his medical bills and any necessary followup better be covered. I wouldn't expect anything beyond that.
