My dog - gone

The same thing happened to us many years ago with our beloved golden retriever, Shelby. Fine, then listless, and then gone. When i found her she was almost gone and she took her last breath in my arms. The hole in your heart feels endless right now. I still miss her sweet disposition to this day, after 13 years. But I found some comfort in the knowledge that she didn't suffer terribly: she laid down and passed away and she was loved. I hope you can find the same.

I know, when my dogs act a little under the weather, I generally wait a day to make sure it's not a tummy ache, or something equally common, and would have done the same thing you did. I'm very sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear this, marathonmommy. As said by so many here, losing a pet is one of life's tough time, always sad. Count the number of people who have stayed behind in their homes in New Orleans, they say there are hundred, who have not left their homes so as to not abandon their fur babies. We do love our animals.

I am very sorry for you loss. I too had a large dog (Collie) who in the course of one short weekend went from amazing to everything failed, and I had to put him to sleep it always harder when you have no time to say goodbye.

I think that is the amazing this about animals, they are just as close at family members. But the bad thing is that you get such a short time with them. Remember all of the good times that you had, you will see him again some day.

My thoughts are with your little one's who are suffering too.

I am so sorry for your loss, I wanted to tell you there is a children's book called Dog Heaven, it is by Cynthia Rylant,( not sure of the spelling) it is wonderful. A friend gave it to me when I lost a pet, if you can find it, it will make you laugh and cry at the same time. It will tell you in dog heaven there are dog biscuits for all dogs, etc. Take care.

I am so sorry for your loss. As a dog lover who has had to put down 2 dogs in the past 2 years, I understand your pain. I am sure you did what you thought was best at the time. I know you loved your dog and would have done whatever it took if you knew. Take comfort that he went peacfully.
