We have an almost 12 year old weimaraner- best dog EVER! BUT- if there is even a BIT of dampness on the deck, forget it- she is NOT going out. You open that door and she backs up about 4 feet. "You want me to go out in THAT?" Seriously, it's not even raining right now, but the deck is wet so she won't go out. It's not because she's old either- this dog has always hated the water. Eventually her bladder will get the best of her and she'll go out....

I have that problem, too! I have a 7lb toy poodle who will "put the brakes on" as soon as her feet get wet or cold........then its like dragging a 700 pound dog!

Poodles were originally WATER dogs! ***!!!!! Aren't they funny?

My dogs have their legs crossed right about now. Its raining and they will pee when it stops! I admit to walking them outside with an umbrella on occasion.

My dog as well. She's a lhasa apso/bichon mix, and she will put on her brakes as soon as she sees an ounce of dampness. But if I complain enough, she'll go...grumbling the whole way.

We had a toy poodle when I was a kid- put a leash on that dog and she put the brakes on......... it was the FUNNIEST thing ever.

My dog has been known to pee on the deck if there is snow on the ground....

Try pulling a 75-80 pound yellow lab outside. Funny thing is, she will not go out if it's raining, but if it snows, she loves it. Not only that, but as the snow is melting, she will only pee if one of her paws is touching snow. There might only be one little patch of snow left on the entire block, but she won't go until she's touching it.

That's exactly how our dog is. She hates the rain but loves snow!

What irks me is that I drag her out there in the rain, and instead of "going," she'll stand there and glare at me. So, I take her back in and then we have to repeat the process in about a 1/2 hour since she didn't do anything the first time around. I wish I could get it into her doggy brain that she's standing out there getting wet whether she "goes" or not so she might as well make it quick and "go" so we don't have to do a repeat performance and get wet all over again.

My old dog was the same way. She was an English Pointer and HATED going out in the rain. We would have to PUSH her out, and she would NEVER go on the grass - just do whatever she had to do on the patio. Guess that was better!

Our Shih Tzu is like your dogs, PrincessKsMom & Pixiedust34!

She hates,hates, hates rain! Rainboots & coats don't help.

But, snow? She is out there racing around in circles having a great time. Rubbing her face through & making tunnels. Rolling around & turning herself into a snowdog.

I don't think I will tell her that snow is frozen rain or it may spoil her fun!

Like our Tim! We have to carry him out if it's even slightly cold, even, and then he turns tail, dashes between our feet and back into the house! And when this is not an option, he locates the closest form of shelter - an umbrella, for example - and refuses to come out!

He loves snow too though and given that he's white, he blends right in. He also eats the stuff...

My dog as well! She's a 15 1/2-year-old cocker spaniel, but she's ALWAYS been this way. When she was younger, she'd grudgingly go out...IF you held an umbrella over her! And she wouldn't go down all the way; heaven forbid she get her butt wet.

Like others have posted, though, she loves the snow...when it melts in the spring, she will hunt for the littlest bit to pee on. She also likes autumn leaves. When they pile up in the corner of the house and hatchway, she'll go in there. I always feel bad for taking away her "toilet" on her!

Nodding and grinning here. I've had Toy Poodles since 1970 and know a thing or two 'bout them. ALL have hated water or dampness of any kind, and yes, they're "supposed" to be water retrievers. They're definitely not the prissy little dogs most people imagine. My last one "looked" prissy and delicate but she sure didn't mind stinking...not one bit!

We have a 9 year old black pug named Beau and an 8 year old fawn pug named Armani. Armani is the same way and has made it 24 hours during some of the times when we had the hurricanes in the past.

So glad i'm not the only one with that problem. I have a 45 pound mutt (shepherd/collie/doberman mix we think) and she HATES going outside when it's cold. She loves to be outside in the summer but if it starts to get cold outside, she really does not want to be there. If it's snowing or raining she really hates to go out. When there's snow on the ground, though, she refuses to pee. She'll stand out there and stare at me like "I am so not squatting in this...it's cold!" I bought her a sweater (I hate dressing animals out but if it means she'll go to the bathroom when I take her out then whatever) and I'm trying to find her a cheap pair of boots. She doesn't like her feet to be cold so she'll stand on 3 legs and switch back and forth which leg she's holding up when there's snow.

Our maltese-poodle mix is like that. But the weird thing is, he loves the snow!
Rain, no way, no how is he going outside, but snow, look out! My other dog a shihtzu mix doesn't like rain and will hold it as long as possible, but will eventually go out and get her business done.

I have a large husky mix dog. It amazes me how he controls his bladder, considering he was over a year old before we took him in (he was a stray). You can't see the ground from the front door. So, if it even looks dark and cloudy outside (no sound of raindrops), he refuses to go outside. Just 2 days ago he went out for the last time that night at 8pm. We got up at 6:30am the next morning and he refused to go out. I tried several times to get him to go out and he refused. I left the house at 1pm and again, he refused to go outside. My husband came home at 5pm that evening and the dog finally went outside. So, the dog held his bladder for 21 hours. How does he do it?

WOW, I must have your dogs cousin. My Chocolate Lab is the same way she even loves to grab the flakes as there falling.

My dog is the same way. She refuses. We have to actually carry her down the block to where they are doing construction, so they have an awning, and she will go under there. But snow, she loves it. Goes crazy with it. But rain or damp, no way is she getting her precious paws wet.

My Jack Russell has the same problem. Wet? no pipi
But it can always be worse. My aunt had a Basset and he was really heavy.
He was a real good ol sucker that was living an ease southern way of life except......................whet they took him out far a walk. As soon as only one tiny weeny raindrop hit him he put his four legs is the brakes and he refused to take another step.
The only solution was to drag him along or carry him like a baby. Of course the dog preferred the last method but can you see my aunt walking with that real heavy dog in her arms

So glad I'm not the only one with a dog who won't get his feet wet. Now, what's funny is my Cocker won't go near the yard if it's raining. But if I pull on a rain coat and put on his leash. It takes about 2 houses to get him to go both ways.

He doesn't do snow either. What can I say, the dog has his neurotic moments.
