and I'm still a wreck from it.

Every night we go to the park for a jog so we can both get tired uot for a good night's sleep. I was feeling lazy so we didn't go. Instead I took him outside to my tiny backyard to run around and chase him a while. Well, he got too excited and ran down the driveway and across the street. I saw the headlights of a car coming down the block and I screamed BRIAN, and he ran back across. OMG thank God in heaven a million times that the car saw him and wasn't going fast. He stopped short and Brian ran back up the driveway and straight into the house. He was all shook up, like he knew what almost happened.

This could have been a tragic night for me and my family, and it was all my fault. I'll never trust him to run freely outside the house off-leash again. He's like a child, knowing not to go into the street, but when kids and dogs get excited, they just run and forget the no no places.

If my dog had gotten hit or worse, I'd be in the hospital right now with a nervous breakdown. I love that dog so much.:sad1:

He's so obedient in the park off leash, he listens to my commands and can run freely without being near the street. No more laziness, only the park from now on!

poor doggie! and poor mom! i know how you feel. our basset hound was "bumped" by a truck towing a utility trailer last year, and he collapsed in my in-laws yard...i just knew he was dying, and i thought i was going to die with him. i don't recall ever being so upset over a pet. he really is like my child. thankfully, he's fine, but it could've been SO much worse, and i keep a much closer eye on him now. glad both you and brian are physically okay!

How scary. I'm so glad Brian is ok

My beautiful golden retriever Emma was involved in a minor accident 2 years ago. I had her off her leash & my neighbor was driving up the street too fast, she went after his car & he didn't see her coming.

I totally blamed myself & never ever let her go without her leash anywhere even though she minds me. We were very lucky that she was just bruised on her hip.

The guilt consumed me for months after that incident, I know how you feel  luckily Brian is ok too.

Your poor baby! I'm so happy he's ok. Hearing about dogs getting hurt just breaks my heart. I know what you mean when you say you thought you;d die with him. That would be me, too.

I'm so glad Brian is okay. When my little guy, Andy, got attacked by another dog a few months ago, it was one of the most frightening things I've dealt with.

I felt so guilty that I hadn't protected him. I'm sure you feel the same.

I am glad he is ok
I understand the panic and the guilt
I too would be in the ICU if I did something that put my dog babies in danger
XOXO to you and Brian

This may sound nuts but in a way I'm glad I'm not alone in this experience, NOT that I ever ever want a poor sweet innocent dog to get hit by a car or attacked by another dog. I just find comfort that others understand how I'm feeling. Thank you all for sharing your stories and that they all tuned out ok.

So glad your pup is ok.

My beautfiul Sasha wasn't lucky, it's almost been 2 years, my fault and I tell you there haven't been many shocking things in my life, but that had to be one of the most shocking events I have had. It honestly felt like someone reached in and ripped my heart out.

Crazy as it sounds: a few months ago, DD13 and I were in a pet store. There was a pup that looked just like her, a white GSD and the trainer/employee actually owned her and for a moment-crazy i know-i thought what if animal control was somehow wrong, told you it was crazy-then it snapped this isn't my dog. but this pup came up to me and kissed my head and I almost started to cry. Her owner says she usually doesn't do that to strangers. We go in there now and I can handle seeing her.

Oh crap, what a downer. sorry about that. But I am so very glad Brian is ok, that the driver saw him, etc.

 I remember when that happened. You were under attack, too, and did the best you could. Don't allow yourself to feel guilty.

I'm glad your dog is ok. it's a horrible feeling. When our dog was a pup, her ran out the front door when DD opened it and out into the street. Fortunately, there were no cars and we got him inside. DD has never forgotten that and is still afraid he'll bolt again.

So glad your pup is ok.

:sad1: That's so sad. It's hard for petless people to understand the devotion we have to these little furballs. Im sorry about your Sasha.

Glad you and your dog are OK - that is such a scary feeling, I know!

How about the driver, is he OK?

So glad tragedy was averted for you. This is why my dogs are never permitted outside of our fenced in yard unless they are on a leash. Period. Unfortunately this is not a shared sentiment among my neighbors as dogs roam freely all over our town and it seems nobody knows what a fence is. I pass a a dead dog every single day when I drive to town.

I truly am happy that your dog didn't get hit (hopefully you're not in for a "Final Destination" situation :rotfl2:).

During the summer, Sunday evenings I would take the dogs to the custard stand! ;) Normally I go to the car, they, being excited to be getting a car ride out of the deal, run to the car and jump in. Well, on one particular Sunday evening, when I went to open the car door for them, Gracie, my standard poodle, caught sight of a cat! Off she went.

Thank goodness when I yelled she stopped the chase but it is scary when you realize just how quickly they can get away from you!

TC :cool1:
