Well, I wanted to just post this as I posted on my recent experience at Usgoldbuyers ........about getting $$ for jewelry...
Well I brought in a few pieces of silver, besides the gold.
Interestingly enough I was told that my MARKED 925 Sterling Silver Bracelet I purchased at the Mexico Pavilion in Epcot years ago was NOT sterling silver. It was COATED in silver and a FAKE, despite the stamp. I was so shocked. The guy said that actually much of sterling is fake and that it did not surprise him (He did not know it came from disney) but my sister and I knew it did as I had second guessed myself about selling it to begin with (more sentimental than anything).
SO, my DH says I should tell Disney...I did take the bracelet back, or should I say, he GAVE it back to me :lmao:. I think I paid like 25. for it, thick silver links and lays flat. That is SO SAD to me....even Disney gets Fakes???
Meanwhile, I wonder if there is anything a lay person can do to Test a piece of jewelry :confused3.....I mean it was a reasonable price (when I thought it was sterling) , but if it had been an expensive piece I would be very upset. When I told the DH it was not worth telling Disney, he said, okay, throw it in a garage sale but I would not sell it as sterling so, for now, its in the junk draw  What a shame.

I would tell Disney, but first I would do some research to find out who the appropriate person would be. I *guess* someone in Merchandising, but maybe not...the pavilions are an odd duck in that I don't think Disney runs them but outside entities do.

Maybe a CM can help you out with who to contact.

agnes!

I would love to know who you end up sending your bracelet to, because I have a ring to send back, too. (It's been sitting in an envelope for 2 weeks because I don't know who to send it to.) I bought this cute little Mickey Head pinkie ring-sterling silver- at the gift shop at the Contemporary and one of the little crystals from the ear fell out less than a month after I started to wear it. And the REALLY funny thing was that it tarnished every single piece of jewelery on my body, starting with my 18KT gold 1-1/2 carat solitaire diamond ring on the next finger over, then the solid sterling silver/14kt gold bracelet on the same hand, and jumping over to my wedding ring on the OTHER HAND, and the Mickey necklace I always wear. Everything but the necklace was very expensive purchased from our jeweler. I have worn all of these other pieces every day for over 10 years without a hint of tarnish. But within two weeks of wearing that little ring, everything was turning black!

My Mickey ring was exactly $25, too!

I had one of those rings and I returned it when I went back to Disney World for the same reason.

Years ago like 1994 around there my sisters and I bought what we were told were 14kt gold bracelets. A few years ago we found out they were not. Its rubbed me wrong ever since.

How long was it before you returned it? I would rather not send it if I can just take it back in maybe December. I even have the receipt!

before writing a letter, etc. I would go to another jewler that can evaluate it for you. One that knows you are not going to sell it.

the first jewler could have said that in an attempt for you to just 'throw it in" with the other stuff you were selling.

my daughter bought one of those rings several years ago and it turns out, she can't even wear it, because it breaks out her finger almost as soon as she puts it on. i had wondered if it was actually silver.

How do you know that USgoldbuyers isn't just trying to give you less money for your jewelry?

Disney wouldn't lie, USgoldbuyers would ;)

I'd agree with another look, but he shook his head (laughed) and literally slid it right back to me, did not even consider taking it. He did test it like all the other pieces, which is right in front of you. Matter of fact, I was dumbfounded and said just toss it and he said, no, can't do that but you can toss it outside yourself after you leave. So, I am pretty well convinced it is a fake.

Well, thanks for the remarks everyone, I think that when I next visit, which will not be for a while, I will throw it in my suitcase and bring it back and "leave" it at the Mexico pavillion where I purchased it and explain what happened to me. Its useless to me anyway.

They did not even WANT it, they were not reducing anything and I am very well convinced that its junk, he said it is actually Not that uncommon, which is a sad fact nowadays. Said most fakes came thru Mexico. meanwhile I bought quite a bit of "sterling" in Mexico, so WHO knows....:confused3

Wow :scared1:

But I've been interested in gems/jewelry for a long time, and the fakes typically don't come from Mexico, because sterling is cheap there, because there is a LOT of it. I would take it to another jeweler to appraise it just in case. Sometimes it costs money to appraise though...

Most fakes come from the US. The least come from pretty much all around Eastern Asia, and Brazil.

really? lol just because it is disney does not mean they will not lie! They may not even KNOW it is fake though....take it back, get a refund or another piece.

Curious - is it stamped exactly as you posted,
MARKED 925 Sterling Silver Bracelet
? Or is it .925? Sleazy as it sounds, there is a difference. The decimal point indicates it's 92.5% sterling silver, with other metal/s added for solidness. If there's no decimal point, the wholesaler - if that company can even be found - may claim that they name their jewelry "925" or "925 sterling" or "925 sterling silver".

Stinks, I know :(

I don't think I would expect a $25 bracelet to be sterling silver, no matter what it was stamped.

You have a good point. I was (wishfully) believing that my pinkie ring was actually sterling because it was so small. I am going to go and inspect if further. It was very strange to me that it managed to tarnish every piece of jewelery on my body, even my 18K gold. And jumping over from the one hand I was wearing it on to the other was very very strange!
