Anyone have one of these? I am trying to decide if I want to get this for my DD's birthday in December or if I should get the American girl doll instead. The Disney doll is cheaper...Which would you go with? I think the Disney is $45 and the AG is $95. If anyone has any pictures to share that would be great too!

Thanks!

We have bought the disney dresses for our american girl dolls - bitty baby and the just like you doll. My girls love the dresses, but we didn't buy the disney doll because we thought it looked cheap compared to the AG dolls.

Thanks! That was my concern...that the Disney doll might be cheaply made. I just hate to pay $95 for a doll. I guess though, you get what you pay for, right? Good to know that the clothes will fit the AG doll well.

Last year my DD's made thier dolls in Germany at Epcot they got to pick out the eye color, hair and hair stlye, and the AG outfits fit these, they had soo much fun making these, I think they appreciate them alot more because they are making them the staff at Germany were wonderful we took lots of pictures also, Very wonderful experience for my dd's.

Ooo, this sounds neat! Do you have pics of the dolls? How much was it to do?

Yes! This does sound neat! I didn't know that this was an option. I thought the dolls were avaliable in DTD. How much did it cost and do you have any pics????

Where can you buy the clothing for the Disney girl dolls? My daughters would love to spend their souvenir money on a princess dress or two. Does anyone know how much the outfits are?

Hi I believe that they cost alittle over $100.00 and it includes a outfit, I do not know how to load pictures but I will have my husband do this by the end of the week. The experience of them sitting there making them like I said this is something they will always remember. My dd's were 9 and 4 and the doll makers have them sit with them they put on aprons and pick out the heads with or without teeth, pick out eye color, hair color and style with or with out bangs, curls or no, it was just amazing, I highly recomend going there even just to watch them, IMO it was soo worth the money just to see thier smiles and they dressed and undressed them all the way home and we live in CT (19 HOUR DRIVE) not only that if you need repairs you can bring it with you on your visit and they will repair it while you are on vacation I don't know if this costs anything but good to know. These dolls are manufactured in Germany.

I think there are some outfits in DTD- World of Disney. Someone correct me if I am wrong. Also thinking I have seen that they run about $25 for a set. You can also find princess outfits for them on ebay.

Thanks for the info! I look forward to the pictures!

The dolls made in Germany are Engel dolls. A doll with an outfit and shoes runs about $125.00. I have both Engel dolls and AG. I have had several dolls made by Herr Engel before he passed away. That being said, if you are going to spend the money, I suggest getting the AG doll. If you really want an Engel, dolls show up on Ebay for about 20.00

ETA-if you want to see pics of Engel dolls there are several on ebay right now

We have a Disney Doll and it is very cheaply made. The hair is awful - the poor thing's scalp is very noticable since the amount of hair plugs is sparse - and she doesn't have that solid feel that AGs have.

The outfits are cute though so I'd pick up a few of those and go for the AG if you can.

My DD has a My Disney Doll and an American Girl Doll (Samantha) and if I had to do it again I would skip the Disney Doll and go right to the AG doll. Samantha has held up so much better than the Disney Doll ... her body, her face and her hair are all much, much better. If you have the money to spend I would go with the AG doll and simply purchase Disney clothes for her.

ETA: WAIT! I just looked at your signature. This is for a 3, soon to be 4 year old? Then I would say NEITHER. She is too young to take care of a doll like the My Disney Doll or a standard AG doll. In your case, I would buy a AG Bitty Baby. They are pretty much indestructible. You can usually find a cheap girl one on eBay because people buy the Bitty Baby twins for the boy doll and sell the girl.

Thank you for the info. I was thinking about doing the My Disney Doll Tea Party, but I heard the Disney Dolls are so cheap...so this might be something to consider for my DD. It sounds like such a neat experience.

I agree a Bitty Baby is best for a 3-4 year old. I purchased a Kit doll for my DD last year at the Annual American Girl Doll Sale in Middleton and we put her away. She is just too nice for my DD to take decent care of her. If I was going to do the sale this year I would have totally offered to buy you a Bitty Baby (they are only $25 at the sale), but the took the clothing out of the sale so it isn't worth the drive for me this year. I guess now they are only selling the dolls and accessories and since my DD is stilll too young for the regular AG dolls we don't see the point in going. You can always watch ebay around July 18th and see what prices the Bitty Baby's will be because that is the day of the sale and often people buy TONS of stuff and sell it on ebay (even thought you actually have to sign something saying the items you are buying are for personal use not resale). Not an honest way of doing things, but you might be able to score a cheaper Bitty Baby.

HTH.

Thanks MommyRN! I may try to do that. DD has my sister's old Samantha doll and treats her very well. She has always been very gentle with toys. (Now my 11 month old is a different story ;) ) So, I don't really mind getting the Disney doll. She is already bored with baby dolls and wants something a little more to "fix". That is why I thought of the Disney doll. I have plenty of time to think about it! :goodvibes Will definately check out ebay on that date though and see what's available.:thumbsup2

My reason for posting was to give the OP an idea of what eles is out there, The experience that my dd' s got was PRICELESS to see their smiles and they will always remember doing this. IMO the cost was soo worth the memories and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. They talk about that experience to their friends alot, it was a great experience.:goodvibes

I agree! If it is for a younger girl, I think you should consider the Bitty Baby. My DD just turned 3 and got the Bitty Baby twins for her first Christmas. They are still in great shape! She got a couple of other dolls and the hair matted right away and they looked like they've been through the wringer. Girls this young are typically harder on their dolls and need one that is more durable. I have found a couple Princess outfits that fit the Bitty twins and I also sewed a dress for DD and her doll that match. Just my opinion .
I know whatever you decide you daughter will love it! Good Luck choosing!:thumbsup2

We have owned disney dolls and the hair got so matted and ratty that my girls quit playing with them. However, we did buy some princess outfits that now fit my girls' AG dolls. Another (cheaper) option may be a doll I found at Target for my 2 year old (can't remember the brand, but it is similar in size the the AG dolls). She wanted a doll like her sisters but there was no way I was buying her an AG. I cannot say what the hair will end up looking like but I figure for 20.00 I could replace it a couple times and still come out ahead! But if a cheaper doll is not an option...I would definately get the AG doll. As someone previously posted, you get what you pay for!

The dolls at Target are called Our Generation. They are actually decent quality. The Disney dolls are not good quality and I would not spend the money on them for a younger girl because the hair will be a wreck in no time. We've been through 2 Disney dolls because of the hair (disaster hair as my DD calls it and there is no fixing it). I would get a Bitty Baby for now and then an American Girl when she gets older. If she REALLY wants the American Girl type doll-I would buy the Target doll for $20 and pick up a Disney outfit. I think the outfits at Disney were $25.

For a 3 year old I would definitely go for the Bitty Baby Doll. That's what my DD (Almost 8) started with. We are now well into the World of the 18" dolls.

As for the Tea Party... We did this when DD was 6. We loved it. It's the only way to get the Aurora outfit (doll comes dressed as her) that I know of. Ours is on display as Aurora is her favorite! Definitely worth the money. Hope to do it again on our Mom-Daughter trip when she turns 10.

Santa brought the AG Jessica for my daughter when she was 3, then Mia for her when she was 4 and he brought clothing last year. DD has taken beautiful care of both girls - I think it depends a lot on the child and how well she cares for her other toys. You know your daughter best - just wanted to put an opinion out there from a young girl who loves them and plays with them nicely all the time. Although she did forget Jessica at the Nine West outlet while we were stopping to get some sandals on our way from Vero to WDW and Mummy had to take a cab back from the AK to go get her after we had turned in our rental car. Ouch!
