Well, that's the only way for them to track purchases. That's how UPromise works. You sign up your credit card or grocery store "member" cards (for grocery shopping) and get "cash" added to your account that you can then invest for college savings. I think ToysRUs is dropping out of that program soon, but when I made purchases there on my registered credit card, a small % of the amount went into my account. If they didn't have my credit card number, there'd be no way for them to know I had shopped there. So the dining programs work the same way--you only get credit if you use your registered credit card. Sorry.
