I won't go too into depth because we ate quite a bit while we were in orlando, but here's some brief synopses of our meals.

Cafe Tu Tu Tango - We ate here after a long drive and day at universal. Needless to say, everyone was completely zonked when we sat down to our meal at 11PM. We waited quite a while for a table. I assumed most the servers had gone home. For those of you that have not been, Tu Tu is a Tapas Bar/Restaurant on International Drive. We had their soup, smoke chicken quesidallas, Beef Kabobs, and Lobster Tail. The most memorable were the soup and quesidillas. All in all this is a fun place with good service and food. I would recommend this place to anyone that wants something different off disney property.

Mythos - We had lunch at Mythos which is heralded as the best theme park restaurant in the world. It's good...but not that good. I had a Spinach Risotto with Almond Crusted Pork Chop. It was a special for the day and was quite tasty. The rest of the table ordered some burgers and chicken sandwiches. The service was good and the themeing/view of the restaurant is great!

Emeril's (Kitchen Table) - This came from a recommendation of a friend. It was a special 1-year anniversary meal for my GF and I, and we were not disappointed to say the least. There were over 12 separate dishes with wine pairings. Suffice it to say, everything was amazing. I would love to go into detail, but it would be way too much reading/typing for one to endure. The highlight was the Veal tenderloin with mushroom polenta. It was the best I ever had. The Kitchen staff tended to our every need and answered any questions we had regarding our meal. This was an experience I will never forget. For the price tag alone, I would definitely recommend this over V&A's.

Bistro De Paris - After our dinner at Emeril's, this was quite a let down. We did the Degustation (5 courses) w/wine pairings. The portions were ridiculously tiny (I understand they're supposed to be small but this was overboard). The pairings were ok. Most of the wines were mediocre at best. We had a Rose, Riesling from Alsace, and Pinot Noir. The Foie Gras was overcooked and my lamb was done in 3 bites. We allotted 2.5 hrs for dinner but ended up missing Illuminations because the service was so slow. We had DDE so the 20% helped out but I doubt we will go back.

Tchop Tchop (twice) - One of my favorite restaurants anywhere. Matthew Stephen (manager) and company always take care of us when we go. I went the 5 course tasting both times. They added a 6th course especially for me and gave us all an amuse bouche. If you haven't been what are you waiting for? : )

Rainforest Cafe - What a fun place. This is one of those places that always reminds me of disney. Say what you want about the food, but we always have a great time when we go there.

CA Grill - Another under whelming meal at CA Grill. Our server was very curt and explained that the menu changes daily. I had been in Jan and there were maybe 3 slight changes. She brought over the wrong wine and said it was the bars fault. The highlight was the Foie Gras (same preparation it has been for almost a year). It was cooked perfectly and the apple compote has always been a nice counterpoint. I had my reservations about the Lamb ($40), and for good reason. One bite and my one chop was done. Fat, gristle, and bone went throughout the chop and I sent it back. I did not receive silverware and by the time I did, my friends were done eating. The waitress insisted that I have the pork and I ate the entree by myself. The fireworks were nice...but that's the only reason people go there now isn't it? : )

Coral Reef - This was a first for us and what a surprisingly good experience. I have heard slightly mixed reviews and was pleasantly suprised. We were seated right next to the tank and had a nice lunch. The shrimp was akin to a scampi and the lobster bisque was nice, thick, and rich. Our server was pleasant and very knowledgeable. We'll defiantly be going back.

Le Cellier - This was our first lunch at le cellier. The service has always been good and the food was spot on. I had a butternut squash risotto and beef kabob. MY GF did not care for her salmon sandwich but everyone else had no complaints. I believe this is one of the staples in epcot. We've never had a bad meal and will continue returning.

Citricos - We decided on Citricos because we liked the menu better than Narcossees. I wish we had gone to the later. The best part of our meal was our Trimbach Gewustraminer that I've had before. They're known for their veal shank. Let me tell you that this was the most flavorless, dry, piece of meat I had in ages. I was sick of sending food back so I kept it and ate my GF's salmon which smelled and tasted days old. The server was great but we did not care for Manuel, the host. He did not say one word to us while we were seated. I even thanked him twice for our menus with no response. We will not be going back and will try narcossees next time.

Thanks for taking the time to post the great reviews!

I had to laugh at your Rainforest Cafe comment--we really aren't nuts about their food OR their service, but for some reason we have at least one meal there every trip!

Thank you so much for your reviews. My DH & I will be going to WDW & UO at the end of May/beginning of June. I had thought about Bistro De Paris, California Grill, or Citricos as possibilities at WDW & had wondered about Emeril's (had heard mixed reviews) & Tchop Tchop. Now we'll probably look to other restaurants. Have had good experiences at Jiko's, AP, & Flying Fish & Le Cellier. May try Blue Zoo at the Dolphin or Coral Reef (based on your recommendations). Tchop Tchop sounds like a must. Have you tried any of the other resort restaurants? By the way, I had that Trimbach Gewustraminer at a restaurant on Hilton Head (CQ's) & loved it! I looked at different stores when I came home but was unable to find it.

thanks for the kind words. I do believe both emeril's restaurants are a must. If you can definatley do the Kitchen Table. It is far better than a regular seated meal. Tchop Tchop has never let me down. I have been 10+ times and it is always amazing. The Scallops are the best I ever had. I've eaten at Flying Fish, Jiko, Boma, Concourse, and numerous others. Flying Fish and Jiko stand out as being the best (of the ones I did not mention in my review) and will be doing both again when I return in June. Have fun on your trip and please let us know what you thought!

I always love to read reviews...good or bad.

Thanks

Cafe Tu Tu Tango - .....
All in all this is a fun place with good service and food. I would recommend this place to anyone that wants something different off disney property.

I have always liked their food and service (sometimes I think their prices are a bit high), but the last few times their music was much too loud. Oh well. I wish that Spoodles went back to being a real Tapas bar. If they get their music under control, a great non-Disney restaurant.

Mythos - We had lunch at Mythos which is heralded as the best theme park restaurant in the world. It's good...but not that good.

I went to Mythos one time within a six months of its opening (maybe I should try again). I wanted one of the items with vegetables instead of mashed potatoes. Our server said that was not possible (this surprised me given their claim to be a fine dining restaurant and their large open plan kitchen). Instead I ordered something else (I think a chicken breast sandwich) without some sauce. It came and I took a bite and discovered it had the sauce I did not want. I sent it back and our server brought it back with the sauce scraped off (you have all seen the commercial, it was not quite that bad as it was done away from the table). It was cold and finally just decided I wanted something else. I asked our server what was spicy on their menu and he said nothing. I decided on some pasta which was ok, but not stellar. There was a red sauce decorating the rim of the bowl. My boyfriend tried it out of curiosity and discovered it was Harissa (a spicy African sauce). I asked the server for more of it and ended up with a great spicy pasta dish. Everyone else in my party had a similar experience. I remember speaking to their manager as we were leaving and he did not really respond. Maybe 5 years is long enough to try again.

Emeril's (Kitchen Table) - This came from a recommendation of a friend. It was a special 1-year anniversary meal for my GF and I, and we were not disappointed to say the least. There were over 12 separate dishes with wine pairings.

Done this a few times and have not yet been disappointed. I do not eat pork or shellfish (base ingredients on what seems like every item on their menu), and yet they have never balked at my requests. Every person I have ever sent to them has had a great time. I do not know if you had a chance to talk to one of their sommeliers about your wine choices, but I have found them to be both knowledgeable and friendly. Unlike those currently at California Grill, all of their sommeliers have at least basic certification (most have advanced certification and they have several master sommeliers). Also, unlike California Grill, they feel that the easiest way to ensure a good guest experience is excellent food and service. They do not charge for their reservations, provide actual reservations (not priority seatings), and let people wear hats and t-shirts inside.

Suffice it to say, everything was amazing. ....

This was an experience I will never forget. For the price tag alone, I would definitely recommend this over V&A's.

If you do not mind my asking what did it cost for food and wine per person? I have not been to Emeril's Orlando for a few months and I do not remember what it costs.

Bistro De Paris - .... Most of the wines were mediocre at best.

Our table asked for a wine recommendation from our server (they did not seem to have a sommelier) and got a response that seemed to be based on the right column not the left one. I called a friend who is a master sommelier in New Orleans and read him their list and everyone's entrees. He recommended something about half the price of our server's choice. Unfortunately, while I was out calling him, the table ordered what our server chose. I ordered Alex's choice as well and we had a chance to compare. Needless to say, Alex's pick won. :-)

Tchop Tchop (twice) - One of my favorite restaurants anywhere. ...
If you haven't been what are you waiting for? : )

I completely agree. While not the same service as Emeril's Orlando, one of my favorite restaurants in town. I will often eat there two or three times a week when I am around.

CA Grill - Another under whelming meal at CA Grill. Our server was very curt and explained that the menu changes daily. I had been in Jan and there were maybe 3 slight changes. .... I did not receive silverware and by the time I did, my friends were done eating. The waitress insisted that I have the pork and I ate the entree by myself. Cannot say I am surprised. Their menu has changed little since Chef Cliff left (three years ago or so). Seems like not bringing silverware is a common problem there (both my friend and I had that happen last time we were there). As I have often said, if it were in a basement (like Jiko) no one would care about it now.

Any way, thanks for your reviews.

I have to agree with Tu Tu Tango. I love that place!!!!

Also we have been to Emeril's in Citywalk and it was very good. If you are ever in New Orleans, you have to go to NOLA's. That is one of Emeril's restaurants as well and it is FANTASTIC. The best meal I have ever ever ever had!!!!

great reviews

Thank you for the review. Did you by chance see lasagna on their menu? I don't see it listed on the menu I've looked at but I can't imagine they took it off their menu! :confused3

We LOVE LOVE LOVE Emeril's. :cloud9:

So much so that we haven't ventured over to Tchoup Chop. We keep saying we're going then we end up back at E's Orlando. I've looked over the menu on his website but what can you tell me that will convince me to go?

DS11 & DS8 are adventurous eaters so no problem there. DH is more a meat & potatoes guy (although goes crazy for a great veal chop).

Hmm...what can I tell you that will convince you to go? It is my GF's favorite restaurant. The decor is stellar. The service has always been top notch. All of the servers are extremely versed in the food/wine they are serving you. I have been 10+ times and have yet to have a bad meal there. They will accomodate any of your food allergies/etc. They will do anything and everything under the sun to keep you coming back. It is very laid back. The food is a pan asian/nuevo american mix. I'm sure some others will agree with me. It's definatley worth the $ and/or traveling off disney property. Any other questions feel free to PM me!

You want me to convince you to go to Tchoup Chop. Here goes.

I have eaten at all nine of Emeril's restaurants. I have eaten at the Kitchen Table every restaurant that has one, and have done "KT experiences" at every one of those that do not have real tables in the kitchen.

When friends of mine ask which I like best, my answer is usually like a parent's answer to which child do you love most: "I love all my children."

I usually follow up with: "Tchoup Chop is the restaurant whose menu I like best."

The decor is amazing. The food is fantastic. The prices are good. They have a great bar.

Excellent Sushi without a dress code.

When were you at NOLA? (I am curious who the Chef de Cuisine was at the time.)

Thanks for the reviews.

majortom, I didn't know the chef from CA Grill left. I don't think I've been there in about 3 years so I guess I'm not missing anything. Do you know if he is the one who started Seasons 52? We have one here in South Florida and I love it.

jarrdisney & majortom thanks for the input! :thanks:

I think we are definately going to have to make it over there! :car:

Yes, Chef Clifford Pleau and George Miliotes were the opening team at California Grill and left to open Seasons 52.

I agree, you have not missed anything since they left.
