My Diana passed away this afternoon

I truly want to thank everyone who gave me encouragement this week. Sadly, though, Diana passed away this afternoon.

She came home from the vet yesterday with 3 medications and a subcutaneous fluid IV. We had a good evening, watched TV and she slept on my chest on the recliner this morning. I didn't think she was eating too well and I didn't think she was drinking, but the vet said she was ready to come home so that was good enough for me. I had a feeling she wouldn't last the week, but I hoped for the best.

This afternoon I gave her a subcutaneous fluid drip. I was holding her in my arms and she seemed to be doing OK, but all of the sudden she shuddered and fell limp. I managed to get to a vet about 20 minutes later but she was gone by the time we got there. I told him not to do CPR, to let her go in peace He assured me that the drip didn't have anything to do with her demise, but of course I don't believe him. (Do me a favor, if you happen to know for a fact if you screw up a fluid drip and it causes your cat to die instantly -- DO NOT TELL ME! I feel bad enough.)

Fergie saw the whole thing and is very quiet this evening. She usually harrasses me for treats and attention, but tonight she's sitting in the corner.

We had a good 14 year run together. I was her second home; my brother gave me his cats in 1996. She was never the brightest crayon in the box, but she was always a good girl. I'll miss her fuzzy goodness.

Looks like heaven was adopting kitties today. :littleangel:

I'm so sorry. Poor Fergie she is probably wondering what happened to her buddy.

Its the dumb animals that make such great pets.

I'm sorry that she passed away. :sad1: At least she got to have one more day in the comfort of her own home. :grouphug:

I'm so sorry. I'm sure she was happy to be home with you & probably waited. Again, so sorry. :sad1:

And no, sub-q cannot kill a cat. We have years of experience with it. If it can, we've never had any complications & never heard of such a thing. So don't worry about that.

It is so obvious after reading your post how deeply you loved Diana. I'm so happy you had each other.

So sorry. I posted on your thread about Diana that we are going through the same with our Pooky Bear and it is so difficult. I came home from work today and I just cried. I hope each day gets easier for you.:grouphug:

You loved her and did the best for her. Please don't keep beating yourself up...

Bless your heart, you did not kill your kitty. She was terribly terribly sick and you gave her everything you had today--your undivided attention. I'm sure your other kitty is confused, but animals just *know* stuff. I'm sure Diana held on for you so she could come home to die, where she knows she is loved. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I'm very sorry. Please try to think of the joy that she brought to your life, and the joy that you brought to hers.

Donna, I am so sorry for your loss. Know that Diana is running and patting butterflies at the Rainbow Bridge.

It is so hard, especially at first. I lost a dog to kidney failure. It was due to a medication I was prescribed to give her. For so very long, I felt that I killed my beloved dog because I put the pills in her mouth. We both know that this isn't true, just as you will realize you did nothing to harm your kitty. I know this is a very hard time. Keeping you and your Fergie in my thoughts. Be at peace sweet Diana.

I'm so sorry to hear it. It's horrible to lose a close pet that you've bonded with over the years; it's like losing a family member.

Perhaps cremate her or give her a good burial. Then she's more than a memory and never quite gone.
