My Deep Descent into Disney Madness/May 2013...updated 6x 1/1 and completed

Day 1 - Part3 - Seriously, We Get to STAY here?
A quick walk over the breezeway and down the elevator we walked out to see this beautiful sight:

although technically this is from the ridiculously nice bathrooms we went to to change into our swimsuits...

We scored some sunny seats by the splash fountains, which Pascal was happy with, but my parents were not. We are more shade people, it is all that Irish/Dutch skin, freckles are NOT that cute as an adult, people.

The Slide was AWESOME, even DH and I went down it countless times. We were here for almost 4 hours while waiting for the Room is Ready TEXT. We got good use of the mugs this afternoon. The refill station for BLT is here at the pool. I was a little frantic, because I was hoping to get the text early and sneak away to put together the Mickeys Grand Welcome I had created for everyone. When it became apparent it wasnt going to happen that way I had to start thinking of a back-up plan. Then a rainstorm quickly formed and headed our direction.
DSC_2420.jpg

We had to skedaddle around 3:45, and we STILL didnt have a room. Sat outside by the fountain waiting, because it was too cold and crowded to wait inside in our wet suits. And, if I'm truthful, I was getting the very non-Disney feeling of being annoyed. But, there are no promises of a room before 4 so I made myself get over it.

DSC_2429.jpg

Nana went in to check and our room had been ready earlier, but they were experiencing computer difficulties that afternoon. That translated into their texting announcement program was not working. GRRRRR, but at least we had a room {or so we thought}. We get up to glorious room 8417, which I initially thought was on the 8th floor, but realized it was on the 14th eventually. I mean where in the number 8417 am I supposed to figure out that it is on the 14th story? We get to the beautiful door that I forgot to take a picture of, pull out the key to do our first RFID entrance and&

the key did not work.

After a few minutes of feeling like a fly trying to get out a closed window using everyones card over and over again trying to make some broken work, I trekked downstairs to get some help. The feeling of chaos permeated the lobby, the computer system fail was affecting a lot of people and the CMs were scrambling. It took 30 minutes to get someone to walk us up and let us in. The manager CM was very nice and did give us a $250 credit on our account to make up for the inconvenience. That is serious customer service at work there, Disney. I have a feeling they did that for quite a few people that afternoon.

Somehow though, ALL of that didn't matter once we got into our stunning resort room. My DH and I have stayed at some serious swanky hotels including a honeymoon suite in Vegas where we were married and this topped them all. It was posh, sophisticated, organized, practical and beautiful all wrapped up in one.

We walked into the foyer with a closet (yes, a hotel room with a foyer is so awesome) and was greeted with this picture and tiny shelf which worked great for Tink gifts each night.
DSC_2433.jpg

right off the foyer is a full bath with a sliding smoked glass door that I took over as my own
DSC_2432.jpg

to the left was the West Wing (as we called it) and was our family's spot, which was really nice. There were TWO closets and a big bathroom (with drawers and shelves to the left
DSC_2454.jpg

again a sliding door to the BIG bath and toilet area, plenty of room for DH and kiddos
DSC_2455.jpg

And two queen beds (the girls slept under Minnie, the boys under Mickey) I would pay serious money for the artwork in this room

A dresser/TV stand/awesome storage unit plus a table and chairs that we used as a computer table

View from our room's balcony, I spent evenings and mornings writing in my trip journal here.

NOW, in the center was the living space which was so spacious. Seriously, my first house wasn't this big. Those light fixtures wouldn't fit in my bag, or they would have come home with me.
DSC_2434.jpg

Kitchen: I want that backsplash!!!!!!!

DSC_2435.jpg

DSC_2438.jpg

On the backside of the living space was this laundry ROOM, which rivals the space I have in my HOUSE. We threw in a load daily, and dried it at night. Word to the wise, don't put too much in there, as the DRYER takes forever.
DSC_2440.jpg

And, behold the Master Suite on the right side of the villa. First the bathroom:
DSC_2446.jpg

there is like 100 heads in here, including a rain shower head up above. Ambient lighting was beautiful and soft. Also, a bench and great tile work that didn't show up in this picture:

DSC_2447.jpg

DSC_2448.jpg

They also had some great storage in here, as well as hooks on the wall that I wish we had had in our room.

{giant SIGH} inserted here. Looking back at all this, I really, truly miss this hotel. I felt so comfortable and spoiled here and would be happy to stay nowhere else on property again. It was THAT good. Chances of that happening are, well, zip, but a girl can dream. I'll leave off here and be back soon with the rest of our day.

Continued in next post..

Wow, that place looks amazing!! Sorry that you had quite the time with the room keys, but YAY to the $250 credit!!!!

Hi Cara - just found your TR and love it already! Can't wait to read the rest - we'll be headed to the mouse house in 12 days! I loved your post on the helpful tidbits - believe it or not, I feel things like that make trips so much more enjoyable!

Great TR! You had so much to bring, how in the world did you pack it all?

We stayed one night at BLT last Sept. We own DVC and usually stay at Saratoga Springs. When we took a vote this year on where to stay the girls voted for BLT but the boys wanted SSR! Those boys are so strange! :)

Awesome pics! :thumbsup2

You are so kind, thanks. I did know I was going to do a TR, so I tried to capture pics that would tell our story. Although my family thought I was a total nutcase.

Jill, it was a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I'm so thankful to my parents for making that happen for us. The $250 went towards an additional ADR we made later on in the week, I wonder where???

And, girl, tell that poor smiley of yours to stop putting up the laundry and plan another trip to Disney, she looks pooped!

Welcome! :welcome: I'm really, really glad my random observations helped someone else out. I poured over these reports and the DIS for months, so glad to know I paid it forward a bit. You must be so excited for your trip, almost single digits!!! WooHoo! Have a wonderful time.

We were lucky we flew Southwest, which meant 2 bags free for each of us, so I used that and the Magical Express to my advantage. You wouldn't have wanted to see us at 10pm as we arrived home and had to drag all that to the car. No Magic Travel fairies here. Sigh.

Your battle of the sexes is interesting! Although I hear Saratoga is really lovely! Really, after staying off and on property, anywhere ON property is such a bonus in my humble opinion. Really loved that Disney bubble. It looks like you are going during the holidays, what a treat!

THANK YOU ALL for reading and taking the time to comment, it really makes my day!

Day 1 - Part 4 - Getting our Mouse on at Chef Mickey's

This will be a shorter update today, I'm pooped. We've been dealing with sleep apnea issues with our DD, and after a weekend of severe tonsillitis and congestion that we tried to head off last week but failed, we have finally gotten her sleeping peacefully for the first time in a week. The steroids have her going a million miles a minute, and I am just not built with THAT kind of patience after a week. But, she's better, and I'm so thankful that none of this happened while we were in Disney.

Where were we???? Oh yes, the beautiful, amazing BLT. Let me start with a picture of my new love....

Grapefruit Bergamot (so good I stole all of them AND bought a bottle at the gift store).
DSC_3175.jpg

Our bags and carry-ons came right up, so Nana and I started the great Unpacking project while the rest of the fam did this:
DSC_2461.jpg

I put Stacey on in the LR and got to see her for the first time EVER. Love, pure love, for that crazy girl. I was a little sad I couldn’t run to the Magic Kingdom and get on Splash Mountain with her.

Groceries from Garden Grocer came at 5pm (we had a 4-6pm time window) and they were well packed. They did forget our juice, so they had to bring that the next day. I had a printed copy of our order that I double-checked against. We bought WAY more food than we needed. We did eat breakfast there almost every day and we used a lot as backpack snacks, but still too much. I stuffed what we could in the luggage, but I hated leaving so much behind. Hopefully mousekeeping did something useful with it.

Bell Hop made some seriously good money from us today, 2 trips with our bags, 1 garden grocers trip, and 1 trip to bring us a blender. He was very nice, I think his name was David too, and he retired from accounting, moved to Orlando, worked full-time for awhile as a bellhop and now just works on weekends to make his golf money for the week. I told my husband that wasn't a bad way to retire!

After we were all unpacked, showered and dressed it was time to EAT at our first TS...Chef Mickey's of course. BUT, remember that Mickey's Grand Welcome I'd planned so meticulously? Well here is The Grand Welcome Plan B: We all went to the elevator and as the doors closed I “forgot” the kids’ autograph books and ran to get them. I told everyone to just go ahead and I’d catch up with them. I had stuffed everything in our carry-ons just in case, and I was shaking as I raced like a madwomen to get as much up as I could. The doors at BLT are not metal so the magnets ended up on the fridge. The little shelf in the hallway made a nice Tinkerbell spot, and I somehow got the welcome banner to hang up with no tape. Then I RAN to Chef Mickey’s and made up some story about intestional difficulties to explain why I had been so long. You will have to wait until my next post to see pics, though. I'm also hoping to get a little video edited to add to that post as well of their reaction.

We went and got our picture right away and the PhotoPass peeps were awesome. We had ordered Photopass+ (best decision ever) but hadn’t redeemed the voucher, so they did it for us and brought everything to our table as we were eating. And, it saved us time doing it in the parks the next day. Score Disney for making things easier for your guests.

Ok, I have to admit it took me some time to figure out this whole Food Porn photography thing and honestly my family thought I was just plain silly to take pictures of food. So, especially in the beginning, there are just photos of my food. So, sadly, not very interesting, but here it is:

I had a plate of salad that is somehow missing and then this:
DSC_2463.jpg

with yummy pomegranate lemonade
DSC_2464.jpg

this little red velvet cake was my favorite dessert
DSC_2470.jpg

I’m going to give my honest review here, the food was not great. It was the worst food I experienced on the whole trip, sadly. We were seated back in the corner with the curtains drawn so it was dark. Nana did like the Salmon and the salad bar, DH liked the well done Roast Beef (but not the medium cooked one) and I drank a ton of the Pomegranate lemonade. Would I go back there? No, probably not, I'll save my TS for something else, but I AM glad that we went there at least once.

The kids were tired from the early morning, the excitement and the 4 hours at the pool, so they were not the most interactive with the characters. Some pulled them into some great interactions, others seemed happy to just breeze through. Here are the Fab 5:

Here comes Goofy first, with the BEST interaction. So playful and engaging with the kids.
DSC_2467.jpg

I have no shame, love how my DD was all I said hi, now it is time to CHOW in this photo.
DSC_2468.jpg

Donald sauntered over and I had high hopes, DS loves him, and I saw him engaging with other families. But, when he got to us he signed, posed and quickly left with no cute Donaldisms.
Look how DD is holding Donald's hand...
DSC_2472.jpg

The boss came over and we got some cute pics with the main Mouse. Love me some Mickey, he was cute.

Couldn't get my son to look at the camera, sadly...It was our only picture with the big guy the whole trip.
DSC_2479.jpg

Then the kids twirled their napkins and did a little conga line. Where are my pictures of THAT? I must have been eating.

Pluto came and charmed my DD, she loved him. She said she was fluffy and soft.

DSC_2483.jpg

DSC_2488.jpg

Minnie was seriously adorable and she loved my Minnie nails. She was very sweet to a grown woman acting like a 5 year old!

LOVE this photo
DSC_2489.jpg

DSC_2492.jpg

DS fell asleep on my lap while we waited for Becky to get us checked out. She was super nice and a great Disney CM. She did give the kids cupcakes to go for their birthdays and I liked her because she complimented me on the autograph books. LOL.
So, our bellies were full and we were dead on our feet by 8:15pm, but we had one more BIG magical moment to come…

Continued in next post... .

Isn't BLT just a dream? I love the laundry room (there are some 2 bedrooms on the TPV side that only have the small laundry area behind doors.) And who wouldn't love that kitchen!! Love the view from your room of the lake! Ahhhh what a lovely place. :thumbsup2 I like to compare the photos of other people's BLT rooms to the ones that we have stayed in. The different views and configurations are neat to see.

Stacy TV - gotta have her start your vacation off with a perky note! :)

Your family looks like they had a lot of fun at Chef Mickeys. I'm looking forward to the rest of your reviews.

Thank you! Only 2 weeks, that is SO exciting. Where are you staying?!

I feel like these last two weeks are going to go so slow too! Lol. We are staying the first night at Art of Animation in a little Mermaid room, then we transfer over to Animal Kingdom Villas for a week! Can't wait!!

Love the pics with Minnie. :goodvibes

She was utterly adorable and I can't wait to see her in next trip. I'm already thinking about what nails I should do.

Chef Mickey's was fun, and in hindsight I would have made the reservation earlier b/c I knew we'd be up early and at the pool some that day, so I should have known better. Otherwise, it was a great Mickey way to start a vacation AND it was in our hotel.

I will try to be honest in my reviews here on this site for what they are worth. I am not a foodie, but I really felt like the food at Disney is a magical part of the puzzle and choosing wisely helps make the vacation even better.

WOW, that sounds amazing!

Day 1 - Part 5 - Ending the day on a HIGH note

Pardon the interruption in your regularly scheduled TR, but I have a couple of cute Real Life Updates (mostly Disney related) that I thought I would share with you. Please feel free to skip down to the TR at the end, it is a short but glorious end to our first day.

First, Lookie what I got in the mail yesterday....
DSC_3986.jpg

Yes, folks, that is the mysterious PIN code that arrived magically in my mailbox. It offers free dining on select dates from August through December (not including the already free dining dates in Sept.). Will we use it????

Also, in case I had any lingering doubts about whether my kids enjoyed their surprise vacation, my DD has begun building this on her dresser. Let me introduce you to....

And finally, here is her and I standing at the MK gates watching the opening show...
DSC_3997.jpg

REALLY, can she be any cuter? On days when she is whiny and grumpy, I will picture these buildings and remember how much she is her mother's daughter... Ok, one to the more pressing matters, like the actual Disney trip.

Welcome TO Mickey's Grand Welcome, folks

DS’s reaction: This is so magical, isn’t it?
DD’s reaction: This is what I wanted forever…
Parents’ reaction: happy to have some magic, they were so pleased and loved their Thank You card.
DH was the video master all trip and he helped me keep the surprise by not letting my mom come back and get me when I was running late for Chef Mickey’s.

We prepped the kids about the morning plans, and they were in bed and passed out by 8:45.

I went down to the lobby and did a little walk around to find the MK walkway and asked front desk staff (David was STILL working) about the timing in the morning and was in bed by 9:45. I was exhausted but so happy! Little did I know just how special the next day was truly going to be…

Loving your TR! You definitely have been bitten by the Disney bug! :goodvibes

One of my dearest friends is finishing her master's this week in library science. She would love your tea mug! She has all kinds of things like that- things she says only other librarians can truly appreciate.

I love all your planning and creativity with the extra touches. Looking forward to reading more!

Your kids' reaction to their magical gifts was precious!

Love the lego/toy display that recreates your vacation - very clever and adorable! Don't you just love the operation of the mind of little ones? They just make so much sense!

Sooooo do you use the PIN? It would be such a shame for that to go to waste! :rotfl2:

This is so awesome, i love that you were able to pull off the surprise in the room.

Thank you! Congrats to your friend, that is a big accomplishment. Librarians can be a quirky bunch. ;) I've got the Kingdom Keepers ready to read this summer, I'm so excited.

I know, of all the times to get that PIN, it would be when I'm trying to get back into the workforce and teachers don't get very much time off to begin with. I really won't be able to decide until I secure a position, but I have until August to decide, so fingers crossed!

This is so awesome, i love that you were able to pull off the surprise in the room.

KIM

Thanks, that was my biggest stress of the trip and I'm glad I got it over with quickly. I doubt I go that big or extravagant again, but I'll definitely do something each trip.

Day 2, Part 1- The Day that began with a hiccup and ended with a Bang!

I was expecting a 5:00am wake-up call from Mickey and Stitch, since that is what Ive been reading on the boards, but to my delight and surprise it was Mike Wazowski, berating me for not being downstairs and then he realized he had called the wrong room. Oh well, but Mike, Im watching you, always watching said in my best Roz voice.
Sadly, this is only an hour earlier than normal in our house. I got up earlier than the rest of the crew, so I could get a cup of coffee, sit on the balcony and write in my trip journal. BEAUTIFUL way to start Mothers Day.

IMG_20130514_071937.jpg

And then things got a little hairy&.

A) I walked right into the heavy closet door that somehow magically opened and scraped and stubbed my big toe on the 1st day of a Disney Vacay.

B) Couldnt find the kids gift cards they had gotten last night and loaded with their Xmas money

C) Finn wakes up and it looks like Pink Eye

Seriously, SERIOUSLY, I was on the edge of freaking out (which is hard to do b/c Im ridiculously laid back, but there you have it)
So, here is how it all worked out:

A) My mom is into homeopathic remedies and put some magnets and a sound machine on my foot and if you can believe it, it didnt bruise very much and didnt hurt after an hour. And I swear it was a VERY hard stub of the toe. Thank you Mom!

B) They were eventually found that morning in the bottom of a gift bag by DH. Thank you hubby!

C) Finn was already on antibiotics for the ER trip we went to for an ear infection the week prior, so I realized it couldnt really be pink eye since the antibiotics would have taken care of it. Thus, it must have just been her reaction to 4 hours in chlorinated pool water. Whew! Goggles were required for the rest of the trip. Thank you ER Doctor!

Tinkerbell and the Fairygodmother left the kiddos some presents. One of my earlier posts details what was in them. And our invitation to dine with royalty that night.

So, the early hour was due to the BBB appointment we had at 8:05 at the MK that morning, with a park opening of 9am. I was hoping to beat the rush to ETWB that morning. Did we make it???? I will say that the beautiful Ariel dress and crown we got her stayed in the room because she didnt want to wear it. But, I must say that it is constantly worn here at home now. I think she was just apprehensive about what was going to be going on that day. We put that awesome kitchen to use for breakfast and ate eggs, toast and yogurt and the badly-needed coffee. We ended up leaving our dishes everywhere as we grabbed our backpacks and headed out the door. Mousekeeping actually cleaned it all up and ran the dishwasher, how awesome was THAT?

So early!
DSC_2506.jpg

We found the walkway!
DSC_2510.jpg

and another little red friend
DSC_2509.jpg

The weather was comfortable and we walked quickly over there, our 5 and 7 year old didnt end up needing any strollers at all, they walked like the champs they are. But I went with the mentality that if they did need them, wed rent them at the parks. We got in and waited in the pretty decent line of early ADR peeps and some lovely CMs gave out flowers to all the Moms in line. So sweet.

DSC_2512.jpg

DSC_2513.jpg

We walked up the beautiful Main Street, really is there a sight more spectacular?
DSC_2515.jpg

Hello, Beautiful, I've missed you!
DSC_2521.jpg

Sadly, there were no Photopass peeps, but someone was nice enough to take this for us.
DSC_2527.jpg

And thus the magic was begun for our family! Up next is our BBB adventure. Would my kids like it? Would they even participate in it?

Day 2, Part2 - Bippity Boppity Ariel
The BBB hostess met us at the Castle gate and escorted us to the Boutique after kindly letting Finn use the CRT bathroom (when a girls got to go, a girls got to go). Now, here is where I briefly saw the downside of a surprise Disney vacay when your child really doesnt know what it is all about. My DD is naturally outgoing, but she was seriously overwhelmed this morning. Her Fairy godmother was amazing and didnt seem put off by her deer in the headlights vibe.

finger nail polish time
47284040005.jpg

47284040007.jpg

She didnt smile or chatter, but I knew shed love it since doing make-overs is almost a full-time job at our house. She also couldnt see what they were doing in the mirror because they had them turned around the whole time. We got the Crown package, which was perfect. Makeup, Hair, Nail Polish, Sash and a cool backpack to carry it all in. She picked the Diva hair, in Ariel color of course, and our Fairy Godmother had the most gentle touch. Finn never flinched or complained and shes famous for it at our house. So if you have a tender-headed kid, do NOT worry about doing BBB with them. All of the hairspray and such came out very easily with shampoo except the glitter, but who cant use a little glitter in their hair?

47284040014.jpg

47284040022.jpg

Here's Me & Nana doing what we did all week:
47284040010.jpg

I think I am WAY more excited for this than my daughter at the time.

and turns her around and

FINALLY, a smile!
47284040031.jpg

47284040033.jpg

Yep, THAT was worth any amount of money I spent.

DS SAID he would do the Knight makeover, but refused to do anything but take the sword and shield. I knew that was a chance I was taking with the whole surprise thing, but it wasnt too expensive. We made the big reveal to the boys and we made our way to the Castle Couture to check out the princess wares and get a little photo shoot in while we waited for RD.

DSC_2551.jpg

Ok, well maybe not the exact pose I had in mind, but at least she stayed still enough to snap something.

The calm before the storm of Rope Drop.
DSC_2553.jpg

DSC_2554.jpg

About 10 minutes later, the rope dropped and it was like the Running of the Bulls. Seriously, there was RUNNING involved by these people. Just CRAZY, and I have no desire to ever do that again. Our plan was ETWB, but it wasnt opened yet. They ended up opening about 30 minutes late that day. So, luckily, I was DIS prepared, and we made our way to Ariels ride. We tried to meander through the queue, which was as stunning as all the previous reviews have said.

DSC_2568.jpg

The ride was so sweet and DD and I really fell in love with it since Ariel is our favorite. We could have ridden it over and over, BUT there were others involved so we hopped next door to see if Ariel was in her grotto. This was the best character interaction we had during the trip, she really set the bar HIGH. She was the spitting image of the movie Ariel, her voice and mannerisms were spot on, and daughter was enchanted. Finley showed her the dinglehopper she brought along and I loved how she kissed the kids autograph books when she signed them. Look at her loveliness.

47284040058.jpg

I promise this TR won't have that many pictures of each Character Meet, but when I tell you that she was THAT amazing, I'm serious. It was Disney magic at its best and I wish I could have filled out a card to tell them how wonderful that meet was for us.

My daughter was so inquisitive the rest of that day:

How did she get onto dry land?
Does she swim in this water?
Where is Prince Eric?
Can she stay out of the water that long?
It was relentless, but adorable.

Where did we head next?
