This new district I work in does that, too. I love it! Every time a student fails a paper, the parent gets an alert email for them to check their grades. Then they see right away what they failed - and whether or not it was due to not understanding or because they didn't turn it in. It's a great way for people to stay informed! The sad part is the parents that still don't have email access yet.
Glad you got that!

My sons school has the same system. It's wonderful. I get an email if he misses a class, is tardy or fails an assignment. The first grading period his grades were great. This grading period he has a girlfriend and his grades are suffering but with this system I have been able to help him stay on top of things before it's too late.

I hate the exact grading system in PE! My straight A son keeps coming home with "I got an F in situps today" etc. It'll be interesting to see what grade he comes home with. It's so much pressure! He is running several times a week at home trying to improve his "mile run" grade and keeping an exercise log for extra credit. I hope they recognize his hard work and don't flunk him because he can't do enough on the timed sit up test!

It's a great tool for parents, but my grade obsessed child keeps pouring over these grade spreadsheets his teachers seem to give out every few weeks - and it's driving him nuts!

It would solve the mysteries often encountered with the question "Why did you get this grade on your report card?" It seems like the answer is almost always "I don't know."

We have the same system at many schools in Canada. Here it is a program called "Markbook" and individual teachers have the option of putting it online or simply giving printouts. It includes all marks including the weighting of the marks.

it does take ALL the fun out of report card day, no wondering, no anticipation, no "HOW did you do?" when you pick your kid up from school. Her grades showed up at 1 in the morning

my school has this system....i hate it!

I mean, my parents are grade obbessed over me, do i care about my grades. Yes. Do i need to have my grades checked every single day and have my parents tell me that an 88 on a test in unacceptable...NO! Its good in some ways but in others, it really really really really is bad.

My dd11's school does this as well...it is great!
It also shows what assignments or tests are coming up so I can check with her to make sure she is doing it all.
She has a transition this year to middle school and so far it has been great! She is getting mostly A's and a couple of B's. I am proud of her and love, love, love the online grade book! :)

My DD's high school does it an it's wonderful. I'm sure she doesn't think so, though!

It's good because I can see if something is going slip right away rather than having to wait for an interim.

I also like the periodic e-mails I get that show me how her average is and what the class average is. Then I can see how she is doing against the class as a whole.

i would love to have that system in our school. unfortunately the schools web page doesnt even work half the time....its too late for my 2 dd's being that one has already graduated and number 2 is a senior, but I do have ds who is a freshman....we also dont get scores for PE - its just either passing or failing...we're so old school!

I would have loved this when my dd was in school. With so much of their future riding on their hs grades it is important to keep track of how they are doing. But then if the grades had to be put in by teachers then it would have been no good at my dd's school. The teachers must have been seriously overworked because they were absolutely no help to parents in trying to keep up with their grades.

We have an online grade system too and I LOVE it. Our system also posts homework for the day, teacher comments, etc. They also have the daily announcements on there so you can see if a practice for an activity has been canceled, scheduled, etc.
