My dd 14 just walked in the door and said she is a nominee for Homecoming. Five girls were chosen and only two will make the court. We had already bought a mid knee length dress for the dance. If she makes the court, will she need a long dress? I know the girls usually have long stemmed flowers to carry, who purchases those...the date, the parents, the school's homecoming committee? Also, what do the girls wear to the football game? We live in central Ohio if that helps. Sorry for all the questions, but it has been 23 years since I was in High School and I have no idea how things work now and what is in vogue.

I think it depends on the school. The girls at my kids' school just where a suit-such as a skirt and jacket or a pants suit. The flowers are given by the school. I think I would call the school to ask specifics.

And....congratulations!

Depends on the school. Here our girls wear formal dresses and they are assigned school colors according to their grade. Everywhere is different

When my DD was on Homecoming Court, they spent the 1st half of the game in the school primping for the half time, when the court was presented and the Queen was announced- after half time, they changed into their regular clothes, but kept the sashes/crowns on if I recall correctly. Also- ask your DD about the dress. If she makes Court- she'll probably be in need of a long dress. It never hurts ot go out and find one- if she needs you have it all ready. If she doesn't you can always return it- right?? CONGRATS to your DD! That's very exciting!

in our school only seniors are chosen for the court. my older dd is a junior and younger dd is a freshman, so I don't know the "rules", but...in the pre-game parade, the members of the court ride in convertibles, and all the gfirls wear long dresses. the Queen and King are announced during halftime. we odn't have a Homecoming Dance.

DD was on Homecoming Court her senior year. They wore dress pants and a dressy top or dressy skirt/top outfits. No one wore a "long" dress. The school provided the flowers. The dance was the next night - our Homecoming was in the winter because we didn't have a football team, so they had a basketball game instead.

Congrats to your daughter!!!!

Our Homecoming is tonight. Each class grades 9-11 elect 2 boys and 2 girls for the court. The seniors elect 3 boys and 3 girls.

We had a large pep-rally today where the elected boys escorted the girls. All the students K5-12 were there and then of course tons of parents. Let's see our boys wore shirts, ties, dress pants and a jacket. The girls wore nice dressy clothes.

Tonight, most of the boys are football players so they don't do anything. The girls wear formal dresses, a few straight ones but most are puffy. They are escorted by their fathers and presented with flowers by their mom's. Then a Queen is named from the seniors (Voted for this morning by grades 9-12).

Flowers actually come from the parents, boyfriends, grandparents, you name it!

After the ballgame they have a big dance which is semi-formal.

Hope this helped.

My 15yo dd was just nominated, too princess: ... I don't think I am going to be buying anything until I found out for sure what the tradition is. I'm calling the school on Monday.

Congrats and GL to your dd! :thumbsup2

Also, I would just take a look at last year's yearbook. the pictures there will usually give you an idea of what is usually worn.:)
Tell her good luck!
Kim

You need to ask someone at your DD's school.

All 3 high schools here do it differently-some wear formal dress suits with a hat to the game! One school, the court wears vintage dresses!
The flowers are supplied by the schools here-but where you are, it may be different. Here the Homecoming court is 15 girls, all Juniors and Seniors.
