My DD is going to hit the ceiling!!!!

I have a 16 year old son, a 3 year old girl and a 2 month old girl. Our son loves Disney and never gives us any problems. You are really scaring me about my future with the girls!

Seriously, You will find that the DVC resorts are SUPERIOR to the deluxe resorts at WDW. Even the independent tour books state this. Just ignore her. She will fall in line.

I guess a little aprehensive because we do usually stay at the Poly, we've never seen OKW, so I'm hoping that it doesn't prove me wrong. Our family is growing and it was more economical for us to find a place where everyone can go without it costing us an arm and a leg.
We have dear friends that have Poly ressies the first week in December. They just bought into SSR last month. They are on the waitlist for a 1BR at any DVC--if that comes through they'll cancel their Poly reservation. The selling point for DVC for them... when my friend told her DH that their down payment for SSR was $300 less than their week at the Poly.

BTW, we love OKW! We never stayed at the Poly but have visited. Both my DH and I both said it really didn't appeal to us to stay there. We did like Ohana for breakfast though.

tell your friends to get on the list for anything.

if the Polyn hotel room would work - so will a studio. OKW has 2 queen beds same as Polyn - others have a queen and sofa bed - but still manageable.

the first week in Dec is very hard to get - so anything - studio, 1 or 2 bedrooms - would still be cheaper than the Polyn.

Well, thanks everybody for all the interesting comments. I have enjoyed everyone of them! Some are funny because obviously they come from someone who doesn't have a DD(16)! She is my second daughter. I did pretty good with the first one. I guess that's what happens when you are the "princess baby".

I think the post that talked about appreciation hit it on the head. We love doting on our kids, but a little appreciation would be nice. I guess that's all I'm looking for. She can have her own opinions on where she would like to stay....frankly, the Poly is my first choice too, but when she starts paying, THEN she can make that decision!

Hope I added to everyone"s fun discussions!!!!!!!!!! :teeth:

First of all: Welcome Home!

As for the appreciation - I am a HS teacher :teacher: , so I spend most of my waking moments surrounded by the drama of 15-18 year olds ;) . I suggest requiring your DD to do some sort of community service/volunteering with those that are less fortunate (maybe tutoring ESOL elementary age kids, or reading at a lower-income retirement home). It's a great eye-opener for those self-absorbed years (gratitude is by far the best therapy) and it has the added benefit of looking very, very nice on college transcripts. :thumbsup2

Oh, excellent idea! She is really involved with our church and they are training her to be a Jr. High Leader. I don't know whether to :rotfl2: or pray that it does some good!

I do feel a bit lucky .

I thought my DD12 would be spoiled by the 2 bdrm we stayed in June.

So we are going in DEC ( SSR studio) and a quick trip in Oct on an AP discount . So I tell her 3 days at any Mod or 4 days at a Value. She popped right back with well if it's 4 days POP will be just fine or any of the others.

My DD13 is the same way. She'd always rather go for a longer vacation than stay in a deluxe or a DVC room! When we bought DVC, she asked, 'can we still stay at POP?' :) She loves the over the top theming, the big pools, the food court, etc., and with the amount of time actually spent in the hotel, to her, the accomodations don't really matter. So, I definitely count myself as lucky.

I trimmed our August trip back to five days from seven, and she was totally bummed! Well, I was too! But I reminded her that because we bought in to DVC, we'd be able to take another quick trip in February (thanks too to a SWA credit and the AP), and because I had banked my points from this year, we could do another trip in late June/early July. So, this most recent trip in August was the most relaxing trip we've taken together, simply because we knew we'd be coming back again soon. We still did everything we wanted to do, but the frenzy wasn't there. It was great! :thumbsup2

I'm lucky, too, because she still wants to vacation just the two of us. I'm totally dreading the day when she tells me she doesn't feel like going to WDW. :sad1: I hope and pray it never comes!

I think the fact that she still is willing to go is great, despite the angst about which resort or what is closed. It's obvious she's still close to you and a good kid. I'm sure the privacy a two bedroom gives will appeal, unless you were used to suites at the Poly anyway-then it's sort of the economy version-no room service or concierge at OKW. I love the Poly and used to stay there, but I'm a BWV fan now. My oldest took a break from Disney for a couple of years, but she's back going with me now every chance she gets.
Here's to a fun trip for both of you! :wizard:

I just remembered ... you can always pool hop to the Polynesian if she misses the pool too much :).

OK, we had scheduled our January vacation for the Poly concierge....where we always stary. My DD(16 yrs old) is spoiled with being so close to MK. Then we decided to buy into OKW. She is already spitting nails.

Then she finds out that the MK won't have any late nights while we are there. (We will just miss it.) So that is strike 2.

I don't have the nerve to tell her that I just found out tonight that her favorite ride, Splash Mountain will be closed while we are there. This will put her over the edge. She is already convinced that OKW is going to be disaster and a BIG disapointment. I'm in BIG TROUBLE!!!!!! :rolleyes1

I wouldn't worry about the park closing early. my kids loved going over to PI to the comedy club, i think it made them feel grown up to seat in on the show. We also went to Disney Quest a few times. I think the parks closing early was a good thing because we didn't mind leaving and doing all the other great things WDW has to offer. I think she will be very happy once your there. Good luck having four kids myself the younger two 17 & 16, I know where you are coming from...... someone is always unpleasent. Go Enjoy your trip.

I just wanted to ask you if this is your first trip with just one child? I'm thinking of going this summer with my DH & youngest ds16 (my DD17 will be away working all summer) and not sure how that is going to work.

The Poly rooms actually have more sleeping space then any of the DVC studios. The Poly has 2 queen size beds and a daybed that is the same size as a regular twin bed.
Because the Poly was one of the orginal resorts built at WDW, the rooms are very large. The Contemporary rooms are also very large.
We love staying at DVC villas, but we also love the Poly. We have been staying at the Poly since they opened and it will always have a special place in our hearts. If they ever added on DVC villas to the Poly, we would add on more pts in a second. And that is saying a lot, since we have purposely kept all of our DVC pts at one resort.

I've never stayed at the Poly (but would love to one day). We're big on tropical themeing too.
If the day bed at the Poly is anything like the one at the Beach Club, then I can attest to the fact that my 5 ft 11 in ds slept on that rather comfortably a few weeks ago.

It's the same size.

Thanks for the list of delivery places! We are going in a few weeks and this time not taking a food plan so it may come in handy.

Funouse8...no, we are taking everybody, my DS30,DS21,DD26,SIL,2 DGK3&6months,and her. That was the reason we bought into DVC. It would have been too expensive for everyone to go, and they all always want to go!

We did go last summer with just DD16, her friend and DS30. That almost seemed like we only had one wit us. I'm not used to that much quiet, athough, we got to keep a fast pace and ride and ride and ride.

I'm not sure how I would like it without at least one of them being there!

The daybed at the Poly is a twin bed and is larger than the daybed at BC/YC. Those are a true daybed size, at the Poly it is the same size as a regular twin bed.
You will love the Poly, if you like the tropical theming. It is so pretty, especially at night.

:confused3 Just an update...the "non-believers" are thinking they might not want to go again...mind you the reservations have already been made.... :furious:

Geez... I guess many of us have forgotten what a 16 year old is like. I can recall dying of embarrassment when my parents clapped along to Country Bear Jamboree, now I'm the one who gets to embarrass my kids! I probably sing and clap the loudest of them all now! :lmao:

I actually turned down a trip when I was about 17 and stayed home while my parents took my younger brother to WDW. Can you believe that?!? Me of all people passed on a WDW trip! The horror! :scared1:

Don't worry, after the 16 year old attitude wears off she'll have a blast!

Congrats on joining DVC! :woohoo:

well geez ... thanks for making me sound like a little brat. :sad2:

haha chorlick is my mom. and for the record i wasnt the only one sad about not staying at the poly and i already new about splash. mothers... hahaha gotta love them
