My DD is going to hit the ceiling!!!!

Scratch 42....thanks for the encouragement. At least I'm not the only one with a spoiled DD!!!! :teeth:

I agree with most others. She's 16 and getting a paid for vacation. She can stay home if it's not up to her "standards." Geesh! My son had preferences, but never would have been spitting nails or pitching a hissy fit if he were in your DD's shoes. He appreciated that his parents worked hard to take him on vacation to begin with.

I thank God every day I have boys ! :rotfl:

But seriously... we were CR-Tower people before joining DVC & in the very beginning our DS's kept asking when we would go back to CR. Now that they know what a 2BR is like they can't imagine going back to a regular room.

We went for a quick Star Wars Weekend last May so, since I am very stingy about my points said, "We're only here for a couple nights, let's just get the studio". Well, we did. Let's just say all the men in my house became whinny little girls. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the room. They were just so used to the larger unit. I had to promise to never subject them to such "torture" again.

FWIW, we love OKW & it's theming. I'm sure everything will be fine once you are there. It's hard to give up your sentimental favorite.

Our teen and pre-teen love OKW. They love taking the boat to DD together. They like the homey feel of the resort. When we take them (and we don't always take them !) we make sure that we book a few days at OKW even if the remainder of the stay is at BWV's.

Enjoy your vacation...

Guess I missed the announcement about Splash Mtn being closed in January. Where did you see that? TIA

Just be glad that your 16yo DD wants to go with you at all. Ours didn't want to do anything with us from 14 to early 17s. Now she's starting to appreciate family again -- a little bit any way. She actually spoke of our March 07 trip without demanding to bring a friend.

Once you get there I think DD will be fine.

Many of us have gone through, are going through, or will go through those "charming" teen years, with girls, especially! I had two boys first, and then I had a daughter....... :rolleyes1 Sometimes those hormones kick in and along with "certain" parts of their bodies growing, so do their mouths! :rotfl2:
However, be not afraid...................As the saying goes, "All's well that ends well". My daughter is now almost 27, and is more centered, mature, delightful and loving, than either of her brothers were at that age (they were still Peter Pan-ish 'til somewhere in their 30's!).
Good luck; YOU WILL SURVIVE :thumbsup2 (you may need to keep saying this to yourself for a while; it's a good mantra :rotfl: )

I have 3 teens.....one dd is 16. My kids all LOVE OKW. It'll be a different "feel" from a hotel such as the Poly, but the rooms are so nice and big......so much space to stretch out and relax. No concierge service here, but I'll bet she'll love the neighborhood feel of the resort. Have a great trip !

What size room will you have? If it is a 1 or 2 BR I am sure she will like the extra space that OKW will give her. If she is like most teens, she'll like to sleep in. There will be 2-3 TVs :happytv: , kitchen for snacks popcorn:: . I bet she will be surprised by how great the the accomodations are! By the way, Welcome Home! You are gonna love it! Have fun!

Our DS(29) is on his own and he balked like the Dickens when we told him our next family vacation was to be last month at VWL. DMom's 85th Birthday party had been there in 2004, and as far as HE was concerned a different venue was called for. Never mind that it would be our 3DGC's first visit to WDW and their parents hadn't been able to come to the party because DGC # 2 was being born.

We can't kill 'um or smack them around, and they should be grateful for the opportunity to vacation with family, but sometimes our offspring aren't the people we really want on vacation.

Best wishes. I think it will be fine for you, and your DD. Probably some 1 on 1 time with her, doing something she really likes will help.

Bobbi :goodvibes

Well at least she'll be able to "practice" her patience as she waits for the bus to MK :). Hopefully the laid back environment at OKW will rub off on her and everything will go smoothly. I hope you have a wonderful trip.

Y-ASK

First, WELCOME HOME!!!

Second, just smile from ear to ear and think about the times you will go to WDW while she is away at college in a few years. It's your membership, not hers.

OK, we had scheduled our January vacation for the Poly concierge....where we always stary. My DD(16 yrs old) is spoiled with being so close to MK. Then we decided to buy into OKW. She is already spitting nails.

Then she finds out that the MK won't have any late nights while we are there. (We will just miss it.) So that is strike 2.

I don't have the nerve to tell her that I just found out tonight that her favorite ride, Splash Mountain will be closed while we are there. This will put her over the edge. She is already convinced that OKW is going to be disaster and a BIG disapointment. I'm in BIG TROUBLE!!!!!! :rolleyes1

first - let me add to the :welcome: homes!

in the event that the postings have not reassured you that you and the family are gonna have a great time with okw as a home base, please let me offer the following:
a) i have no use for the poly - and i love the okw resort; ;)
b) i am too old to take advantage of extra magic hours regardless of whether they are early or late; :rotfl:
c) splash mountain holds no special attraction for me, either; :ssst:
d) so if your daughter would like to trade places with me for your january vacation, she can stay with my mom and commute to my job in the city while i take her space in the okw villa with you guys! :rotfl2:

seriously, i hope she gets over herself and will appreciate what great parents she has - paris, new car, dvc! - wait 'til the real world gets hold of her! :goodvibes

Smack Her
LOL! Now THAT one made me truly LAUGH OUT LOUD!

Actually, I do think she will love it once she gets settled in. She'll have so much room in the second bathroom, and one sink area can be all hers if she chooses! You might also let her go off to MK on the bus on her own, and she'll see what a quick 10 minute ride it is and how easy it is to get on the bus instead of walking up that ramp to the monorail! FYI, the OKW bus stop at MK is very close to the front. :thumbsup2 I'm too going to say she will like the proximatey to DTD and the fact that she can either take the boat OR walk the path, OR ride the bus there. BTW, opt for the boat or path, because the bus seems to take awhile to DTD. I'm also going to guess she will love the main pool at OKW, and even the quiet pools. There are always at least a FEW cute guys to check out! ;)

Ah, the delights of a 16 year old daughter!!! They are such charming creatures, aren't they????

Seriously, a couple of things my DD16 really enjoyed (OK, she's a Disney nut like the rest of us are, and she's ALWAYS up for a trip to WDW!!) were being able to rent and drive a WaterMouse by herself, and especially going on the Segway tour. She was delighted with them both!!! And now DD12 is waiting (not so patiently) to be old enough to do them as well.

If you're in the market for a couple of "extras" to sweeten the deal, I'd recommend these first.

wanna bet that is her biggest worry..... :lmao:

she will find teenagers and older guys at OKW just like the Polyn. :dance3:

I can say I sort of relate to the OP. I am organizing my family trip for next June at SSR. It'll be my bro-in-law and his 3 kids in one 2BR; my sis,her hubby, and their 2 kids in another 2BR; my bro, his wife and 2 yr old son in a 1BR, and me...well on the pullout sofa of my choosing I believe.

The similar scenario happened with my bro-in-law and the 3 non-believers as I shall call them. My BIL was all for the trip, not so much because it was Disney, but because it was family. But when we told the kids they were actually upset. Now, the 2 older girls are 21 and 19, the boy is 16. They were well, "I don't know if I want to go". Now, the rooms are being provided on my brother and I's points, and my BIL is going to pick up the rest of the tab for them. I was shocked...what young adult would pass up an all expense paid trip to ANYWHERE? :confused3 The whole story ended up being they thought if they said no to the Disney trip, they could get their dad to take them somewhere else for a vacation. I was still like, they don't want to go to Florida? :confused3 Well needless to say, my BIL squashed that line of thought. So now it's, "Yea, I guess I'll go..."

And to think, they were so cute when they were little kids.

She'll love it as soon as she makes sure the rest of you are feeling as miserable and put upon as she is.

I was a little skeptical, too. It wasn't in this week's MousePlanet update... but on the official site, here, it does indeed show Splash Mountain closing Jan 2nd-the 27th. I guess we'll have to go to MK on the first and battle the crowds! Bleah!

A new car when she's 16? Oh, what an awful life. She'll be pretty disappointed when she starts to live on her own! Her first priority will probably to find a sugar daddy!
