She broke her foot (the bone that runs from her pinky toe to her ankle) last night. I know I'm worrying before I should as we don't see the ortho until tomorrow... but what are we going to do? I can't see her hobbling around WDW with crutches, even a month into her adventure.

We are staying at BWV so if she walks (crutches) to the park (EP) can we then rent to wheelchair, and what do we do with her crutches?

Or should I just do the outside rental? I think by then, she might have a boot and to stand / limp when needed...

No Clown pool :(. PS she's 11 and really athletic so this is bumming her out big time. Thanks for all the advice, and I know I'll know more tomorrow after the ortho appt, but *sigh* Im stressing out a bit over the vacation, and school, and the school bus, and the stairs at home. :(

If she gets a removable boot rather than a cast, she may be able to remove it for swimming. My husband was able to do this when he broke his ankle in 2 places. Her foot should be well on the way to being healed after 4 weeks. I would wait until I heard what the doctor as to say before worrying and trying to make plans.

Ask for a waterproof cast if she has a cast. They cost just a little more but they are so worth it.

I would also see about getting a pediatric wheelchair before you leave. She can take it to the gate and check it just before she boards the plane and it will be waiting when she gets off. The airports are really big and she will probably want a WC at the resort. A lot of times insurance will cover the cost if you rent at home.

The ones you rent at the parks are large and aren't comfortable (and they aren't well maintained.) I don't know how tall she is or how much she weighs, but having one the right size is best. The outside vendors are listed in the FAQs at the top of this thread if you want to wait until you get to Orlando to rent.

With the walking that is required for a WDW vacation, I would talk to the orthopediast about your vacation and like others have said, get a waterproof cast if possible.
You want to make it as easy on her as possible or she will be miserable.
Rent a wheelchair at home even...one that is fitted for her. See if they have a crutch holder available.
