My daughter is something else

In less than an hour she learned to ride a bike - no training wheels, no help from mommy or daddy, no fear.
We borrowed a bike from a friend whose daughter has outgrown her bike. For the first 15 minutes or so, my daughter puttered around the house, holding onto a wall or two while getting used to it. Then she went oustide, and less than 45 minutes later she was pedaling all around the yard - even going down a steep 3 foot hill.

For Christmas my brother sent us some money to get a couple of bikes for my kids, so now we can get her a better bike. Also my son (who hasn't learned yet because he never had a bike) is really wanting to ride too. We are going to put the bikes under the tree, and watch the kids' faces when they come downstairs. I just wish I had my new camcorder already. :thumbsup2

My DD, now 11, learned to ride a 2-wheeler when she was 4. (Her big brother didn't learn until 3rd grade!) What was so funny is that it drove the neighbor boy (who is 7 months older) NUTS that she learned before him. For the next few days, we saw him outside with his dad, falling off, getting mad, etc. until he learned, too.

Some kids are just very coordinated. Is your DD in a sport yet? Maybe she's a future gymnast like my DD!

My little girl was like that too. Her brother was so cautious and careful, we were unprepared for this one. We always said she "hurtles through life." She's the one who has been to the ER umpteen times. She's the one who broke her arm, swallowed a safety pin, and stuck bacon up her nose. She's so self-assured and confident,I secretly admire her--I always wanted to be that kind of kid.

Hope she loves her new bike. Buy a safety helmet--in fact, buy two :joker:

It's funny. She loves to play with baby dolls, and do prissy things all the time, yet at the same time she's a daredevil, and not afraid of anything. Sometimes it really is hard to figure her out. We have taken her to Six Flags, and she loves to do the little baby rides, see the pretty decorations, etc... but she also is dying to go on the Superman and Batman roller coasters with me (unfortunately she is so small that it will be some years before she is able to). One time at school a big bully pushed her down, and took her lunch. Instead of crying to the teacher, she simply got up and pounced on the kid, and had him pinned to the ground while she beat the snot out of him. She really is something else (we're just not sure what it is yet :rotfl: )

Oops, sorry I meant to add that she hasn't shown any real interest in sports so far, but gymnastics might be something that she would like. Or extreme sports could be another possibility :rotfl:

My dd did that. Dh took her training wheels off. They get ready to try it and I stand there with the video camera waiting until she gets close so I can record the "magic moment." She took off! Just started pedaling away!!!
I second the safety helmets. :thumbsup2

Yup, she already has a helmet, knee pads, and elbow pads. I remember when I was a kid, we didn't use any kind of protection, and I wouldn't have wanted it. But as a day, I insist that she wears all of her padding.

Yup, my dd taught herself in all of about 10 minutes! ANd her older brother (the natural athlete, btw) took MONTHS and tons of patience on my part.

I taught my younger brother and all of my kids in a matter of an hour or less using the same method I stumbled across as a kid. Teach the kid on the grass first, not a sidewalk or driveway, that way if the fall, it doesn't hurt as much.

Find a slight downgrade, and have the child just coast down the slight hill without pedalling, just to get the balance thing down. Once they have the balance thing, add pedalling, and you're done!

Training wheels, like pull up diapers, are a waste of money!

Sounds so much like my DD. She was always the toddler going head first down the slide! She's always been tall for her age, so she could ride the roller coasters quite early. She loved it!
