My daughter broke her leg! Help!

Hi everyone, my 3 year old fractured a bone in her leg, and we leave friday!! Will I be allowed to take her stroller in lines? She is in a walking boot, but can not walk yet, and I doubt she'll be able to do the amount of standing she would need to in the lines.

Is there an accomodation to use a stroller in line for kids like this? Do I need to go to Guest Services to ask? Should I plan on ringing the smallest stroller possible?

Any advice would be very much appreciated!

Oh! Your poor DD

First off, take the stroller that she will be most comfortable in.
Perhaps you may also want to consider renting a pediatric wheelchair from home, with a leg support - so she can keep her leg elevated??

It's going to be hot - highs in the high 80's all next week.
A fan, mister combo for her might alleviate some discomfort for her as well.
If she needs some shade, using a wheelchair, you can buy an umbrella that she can hold - there are ones for sale in the parks with characters on them

Someone else will help out with information on the GAC card you may need to get for her...a stamp on this card - which you can get at Guest Relations - will allow you to take her stroller into the general line area, or use the wheelchair entrance to allow your DD to get on the attraction easily.

And have fun - the more relaxed you are, the more fun you'll both have!

We'll see you there - we arrive on Friday too!!!!

And, if she has a real cast, you might want to talk to the person who will be removing the cast. Have a line drawn on the cast where it will be cut for removal. Then bring along some "Sharpies" and have the characters autograph the cast, asking them to make sure their signature does not directly cross the line.

Once the cast is removed and fully dried out, you will then have a very unusual souvenir of the trip.

Yes there is a tag that you can request from Guest Relations to allow you to bring your stroller anywhere that a wheelchair can go.

You want the stroller to be very comfortable since she'll be in it a lot. You also want to make sure it's a stroller with handles at a comfortable height for you. Many umbrella strollers have handles that are lower. While you may not notice a problem from being slightly hunched to push for a half hour walk, you'll notice it after hours on end of pushing. I agree that having some way to elevate her leg will be good. If none of your strollers do this, at least make sure you elevate her leg whenever you stop for a rest.

Also make sure to elevate it some on the flight if you fly. We asked to preboard when we flew with a child in a boot because not only did she need to be wheeled down to the plane but also it was important to me that we be near a bathroom (you know how little girls are; they have to use the bathroom every hour it seems, plus this particular daughter has bladder issues and doesn't always have a lot of notice). It takes time to get a child that can't walk down that narrow isle so being near the bathroom helps.

One thing to ask your doctor is what do you do in the pool? You can't get those boots wet so she can't wear it in the water. Would some kind of air cast be appropriate?

We brought kitchen garbage bags with us when our daughter had a boot at WDW. This way if it started raining or we were going on a ride where you have a chance of getting wet we could slip that bag over the boot to protect it. We just tied a knot at the top of the bag to close it. It was cheap, easy and portable.

One last piece of advice. ALWAYS put a sock on under the boot. The stink of a bare foot in the boot is NOT pleasant and it's not easy to clean.

A couple of years ago my DD burnt her arm. She was melting butter in the microwave to pour on popcorn. She was home with her brothers who were 17 and 19 at the time. They were supposed to be the responsable ones. The hot butter ended up running down the front of her arm. It was pretty bandaged up. Do you know what her first concern was. Will I be able to swim when we go to WDW. We ended up getting a special blow up cast from a hospital supply company. We ordered it online and they Overnighted it to us so we would have it in plenty of time for our trip but it kept her nice and dry when going in the pools. It saved our vacation.
