My cousins husband was hit by a car...

I know..I know, You folks don't even want to open a thread by me anymore. Talk about Debbie Downer.

Yet..here goes. Just when I thought life couldn't get any more difficult.
It did. Only..I should shut up and stop whining. My poor cousin has more than a cat to worry about.
I just got back from the hospital. My cousins husband was on his way to work this morning when he was broadsided by a 23 year old kid who ran a red light.
He is on life support. The outlook is not good. His brain has swelled, and the dr.'s are not optimistic. He is only 51 years old. Dr.'s are giving him steroids. They are praying for a miracle.
Sort of puts things in perspective for me. I can't tell you what a lovely couple these two are. Married for 30 years. She was maid of honor at my wedding. I at hers. This is just so incredibly sad.
If you were to see him..he looks as if he's sleeping. He doesn't have but a small scatch on his forehead..but the impact must have been horrific.
In an instant life has changed.
So.. ...and here I go, to those of you so inclined..please keep Jeff in your prayers. He's a good man..really. His wife and son need him..

I just thought I'd post this because I felt like... here I was feeling all sorry for myself regarding the cat and my dad..and Christmas. Then there is this wonderful family suffering a devasting life changing event days before Christmas.
Oh God..please comfort them. They are such good people.

Damn Phyllis, you have been through more than any 10 people should have to handle. Prayers for the whole family on this one. There's no good time for this to happen, but the timing truly makes it so much harder. I do hope they find peace. And please don't worry about opening threads, we'll still be here.

So sorry to hear Phyllis,,we all think we have problems and then something like this happens and suddenly our problems aren't so bad. I can only imagine how devastating for the whole family this must be. Our prayers go out to the whole family.

Dang Phyllis, don't make me do it, I am going to get in my truck and drive up there! I will always open any thread you start, but I will always have my fingers crossed that it is a happy one for you and your family, you sure deserve it! We are here for you at least in spirit, if not in body, to lean on and comfort you in the best way we know how. Some of us are great at it, some of us suck, (like me) and will try to make you at least smile at how bad we really are at this. But know that we love you and support you and would drive across state lines to help you if you need it.

Never lose hope, there are some amazing new treatments for head injuries. Dont ever take no for an answer, get the 2nd opinion or 3rd or 4th.

Phyllis, I will ALWAYS open and read your threads!!! My heart goes out to your cousins and your family. You are in my prayers always. I'm also praying for strength for you to get through all these trials that have been thrown your way. We all love you and we're here for you whenever you need us.

First..thank you for your prayers..please continue to pray. Last night my cousin went back to the hospital. She quietly told him how she needed him, and how she hated being alone. She thought he squeezed her hand, but didn't want to make too much of it, since she figured it might have been just a reflex. Not much change during the night. This morning at 6:30 am a nurse told her they lightened the proporal (hope that's the correct spelling) a bit and asked him to move his right leg. Which..he did move his leg a bit. The nurse told her that she is NOT a nuerologist..but it was something.. Certainly more than she had last night.
That being said, my sister has a friend who is a nurse at the hospital and said his chart indicates his condition and outlook is poor. He should be responding to other stimuli..that he isn't. Soo...I don't know. She said that doesn't mean that things couldn't change..but as of right now, it's not looking good.
I have him on our prayer list at church, and frankly at this point, we're hoping for a miracle. It's the season of miracles right?...right?I don't know. I guess it's not for me to second guess God. Who am I anyway? Only I do believe in a higher power, and if he has a plan..well, then call me dumb, but I'm just not getting this one.

I did want to suggest a different hospital and dr.'s. I mean I know his injuries are very serious..but there are some trauma centers and some well known facilities either here on the island or even in Manhattan that might be better equipped to deal with his situation. Only..it's a tough conversation to have with her. I will see where today brings us, and then suggest the second opinion..and a third. Thanks for suggesting that.
