My couch/sofa is 22 years old and just won't die...how old is yours?

if you decide to replace it and don't want to sell, consider putting the old set on freecycle-someone will likely very much appreciate getting it, and they will come and pick it up (which is much less hassle than transporting it to goodwill or salvation army, who may not even take it anyway-they've gotten pretty limited on what furniture items they will accept).

This is not exaggerating....but my mom and dads living room couch is 56 years old!!! AND besides being gold velvet (it was reupolstered in the late 70's) it is really in excellent shape. Maybe it is because we were never allowed to sit on the living room furniture when we were little AND even now....she is super picky about that couch!!!

I probably have a pic of it somewhere. My mom and dad are pretty well known for their "living room couch"..

I have 15 year and 10 year old couch's in great shape. They won't die and I'm glad. I can't afford new ones at this time.

After 22 years I am so sick of looking at my couch and 2 living room chairs!!! I wish they would fall apart. We purchased them thinking that our children would do them in, not so lucky.

The problem is that they are still in such good shape it seems so silly to replace them and selling them would be a waste also. Guess I am still stuck with them for awhile, but am still tired of looking at them.

I hear you! My sofa and chair will be 20 years old in September and although I am sick of them they are still in perfectly good shape. We did move to a new house 6 months ago that has a family room so that furniture ended up in there and I bought all new stuff for the living room.

I was just trying to figure out how old mine were, my parents had them for 20 years and I think I've had them around 10. I'm getting some new hand me downs this weekend, I think they're only around 10 years old! Yey, I moving up!

My living room couches are 17 and 24 years old. They both have slip covers on them and I'm ready to push them into the alley!!! lol! I took DS looking for couches today. He plopped on them so hard, it reminded me that maybe I want to make the old ones last another year or so until he stops using the furniture for a gymasium. Ahhhhhh, life with 10yo boys!!! I want a brown leather couch with an upholstered chair and some side seats that will go with the two pews we inherited. I fell in love with a huge captains chair that had leather padding on the seat and the back for $550 and the accompanying desk/table for $1020. I went looking for couches, oh well.

I wish I could justify replacing them....it seems like such a waste to replace something when there is nothing wrong with them....that is why buying a cat or spilling nail polish on it sounds good!!!

As for covering them....well, I don't even wan to look at the style of these any longer. yuck!!!

A new sofa is my next order of business. It used to be my parents and before that, my grandparents. Must be at least 20 years old.

I just spent all my money on a new mattress. My old mattress used to be my parents and it was ancient. I was probably conceived on it.

We just got rid our our 23 year old sofa in our living room... it was time! Matter of fact we got rid of all our living room furniture and purchased all new!! Yeah!! We purchased our new furniture from Ethan Allen, we love it!!
