My child - the one who got her head stuck in the bars at DHS.

You can usually have them go through the bars. Once the head is through, the shoulders will usually fit through and so you slide out on the other side. Most people try to pull them out the same way they came in but it's easier if they just continue through the bars onto the other side. If course this wouldn't be good if they were on a balcony, etc. but if they are on the ground, just turn their shoulders sideways and step out the bar sideways, one leg at a time. The head is usually the biggest part on the child and is also the less malleable. Shoulders and legs can me moved and positioned easier than a head.

UNLESS! They are Pooh sized!

It must definitely be a middle child trend. I am the middle-ish..very long story haha!..but I am always falling, getting stuck, getting hurt, breaking something, etc! Thank God your little one is fine!

After reading this thread I'm really thinking that must be it!!! My 2nd child is the one that I say "always keeps me on my toes"...yep..he was the 9 month old walker too -- which I didn't even think was physically possible but he proved me WRONG.

Thankfully, it *has* gotten somewhat better as he has gotten older but I'm amazed I haven't been in ER more with him than I have been. He's always doing something.

Although, my oldest is a klutz in general but a gymnast -- go figure!!! She can do flips & move her body in ways that defy gravity! Have her walk a straight line somewhere and she will trip over those invisible lines, fall up the stairs, etc... BUT she would have never thought to stick her head through bars, etc... as I could SO see her brother doing that & he DID do things all the time. Still does but we love him anyway!

I'm glad everything turned out fine but it's so hard to stay calm when that panic is setting in.

I hope you went to guest services and complained about the bars in the railings being to far apart. I know malls have had to change their railings because of kids injuring themselves getting their heads stuck in the bars. Disney should be no different especially with all the children running around. A quick change in the railings and no more problems.

This reminds me so much of my sister! She was on the balcony of my Dad's apartment and she wanted to look down at the people below so she stuck her head between the iron bars. My Dad and stepmom tried to get her head out and had no luck. So my Dad put butter all over her head and she finally slid out! What a sight! Screaming 4 year old with butter all over her head!

This just made me LAUGH out loud!! I just imagine her with butter all over her head and sticking in her hair! But hey-it worked:laughing:

My dd 3 at the time did that at Epcot waiting for illuminations to start last year. She put her head through the bars and couldn't get it out. She started getting so scared and freaking out :scared1: I DID have to ask a CM for help. By chance, someone who looked mighty important was there... a man in a suit and riding a segway came over to help :moped:. We were able to get her out with out any problems. Nice gentleman I think was so worried he gave her his lanyard with ALL his pins! How nice.

But this year, my son - whose older- but none the wiser was mad he had to wait in line for the dino ride at AK and got his leg stuck. As the line started moving he really got nervous and a bunch of nice men tried to help me. Once we got it out, we had missed our turn and he was so embarrassed we left the line!

This happened to my DD (my youngest) when she was 2 or 4 at EPCOT. We were just standing near Canada and she wanted to see the ducks, near the water. Well, the ducks are smart and were inside the railing and the next thing I know her head is stuck. My DS was with her and thought it was his fault. I was looking for a CM and she was crying. This very nice "muscular" man said we can't wait for a CM and called his friend, another "muscular" man. They each pulled on the bar on either side of her head and easily out it popped! I couldn't thank them enough! They were just glad that they could help.

It's nice to know that with all of the bad stories out there about rude and mean people, there are still plenty of great ones still too!

I'm so glad your DD was rescued. Though it may seem funny now, I'm sure it was anything but funny for her when it was happening.

I don't think anyone was implying that it is Disney's fault, however law suits fly over coffee being too hot, so it might not be a bad idea for Disney to take notice, and change the bars, if not to protect kids, then to protect themselves from a possible law suit.

OMG now we're complaining to Disney about bars??

I think it would actually be a courtesy to let WDW know. Obviously, you shouldn't get angry with them or anything but something tells me they would want to know that this happened so that they can stop it from happening again.

OP, I'm so glad that she wasn't stuck for too long, although I'm sure it felt like an eternity.

Glad to hear everything is okay! Don't worry, even though I was too young to remember, I apparently got my head stuck between the bars at the mall. :rotfl:

Oh gosh, glad your daughter is Ok and a suitable hero was on the spot to rescue her.
My son got his head caught on the railings of our stairs when he was a little fellow and when he saw me coming towards him with a saw he managedat the last second to pull his head out. To this day he insists I was going to cut his head off:confused: and I have to keep reminding him that I was going to saw off the wooden railing.
Give your precious girl a big Koala cuddle from me. Thanks for sharing your story.

Trish

hahahahaha :rotfl: :lmao: The things that go through a kid's mind...
