We were in Staples buying a bunch of things for a home office dh was setting up. We had a desk, a bunch of office supplies and needed a new conference phone. We went over to the electronics area and started looking for phones. The area was really crowed, there were a bunch of people milling around.

I pick up the phone to look at it and my son (the one on the right) leans in and whispers, "Mom!" Absently I reply, "Hmm?"

Then he says (no longer whispering) "Are you going to buy that phone or steal it?"

I convince myself I must not have heard him correctly so stupidly I reply, "What did you say?!?!"

Now he's really loud and says, "Are you going to buy that phone or steal it???" At this point shoppers around me are giving me dirty looks and I'm sure one might have already been on their way to alert a security guard.

I was soo stunned I didn't know what to say! :scared1: I'm going to buy it of course!

I hurried up to finish my shopping and get the heck out of there. I bet they had their cameras trained on us the rest of the time! :rotfl:

I can't imagine why he would ask me something like that. I did recently make a big deal over not stealing things. A few months ago, his brother took a candy bar and I made a big ta-do over having him return it. Maybe in his own 6 year old way he was trying to keep me honest? :confused3

:rotfl2:

Kids!!!! They say the darndest things...

Sorry it happened to you but I think all of us parents have been there to one degree or another.

But it sure was "nice" of you not to steal that phone. :rotfl2:

Awwww, that is so cute. I'm sure it was embarassing, but he was most likely just making sure you were going to do the right thing. You've obviously taught him well, hopefully he will always stand up to others and try to get them to do the right thing. Good work mom, even if it does cause a little embarassment!

I am so glad I wasn't drinking something when I read your post. I know it would be all over my monitor if I had been. I don't think I've laughed so hard in a LONG time. :lmao:

Kids....you gotta love them :rotfl:

I had to take my DS (3) to the ER Saturday night. He loves to dance and was doing one of his "routines," when he tripped and fell, hitting his head on the wooden rocking chair I was sitting in. It required 5 stitches and after we got done there he wanted to go see his grampy and uncle at my parent's house.

So we went over and he looks at me a little while later and says "Mommy, sometime can we go back to Aunty Tracy's house and visit again....when you don't hit me with the rocking chair?" I about died! I just looked at my mom, who had come to the ER with me, and said that I sure was glad he hadn't said THAT when we were there :faint:

My DD8 did that to me a couple of weeks ago at the second hand store! Boy am I glad I'm not alone!!
I was looking at a trinket box and debating on whether or not I really needed another one and next thing I know my DD is asking in a stage whisper "Are you going to take it". I said "I'm not sure,I'm thinking about it" Then she hollers over to my DD4 who was standing at the end of the rack--"Boo,mommas gonna steal the box"

WHAT!!???

I about died right there--So of course I HAD TO BUY THE BOX---I could have killed her!

I think because she had gotten in trouble for stealing she was seeing it everywhere.--She had taken some lip gloss off a pair of jeans at Walmart and took it home--I told her it was stealing and she wasn't allowed to go out shopping with me for awhile because of it.

:rotfl: :rotfl: Your story reminded me of something that happened with my DS and DD once. My DH installs security cameras so anytime we would go to the mall, he used to point out all the cameras for DS and DD. At Christmastime a couple of years ago, we were in Macy's shopping and my kids were walking around saying, "there's one, there's another one..." I felt like everyone was thinking we were a family of grifters training the kids to watch out for and avoid security cameras. :)

:rotfl2: That's it! You know exactly what that feels like! Funny how their little minds work.

Oh man he got you GOOD!!

That's so funny!

That story is absolutly adorable!

Along the same embarassing lines, my cousin (3) was at preschool and she raised her hand and told the entire class that her mom had a tattoo of a skull on her butt. I get there to pick her up and the teacher asks me "Does Jen (my aunt) have a tattoo of a skull on her butt?". I told her that she has the cross bones in the flag on her lower back and loudly my cousin yells it again. It was hilarious for me but rather embarassing for my aunt who dropped her off the next day!

:rotfl: Sometimes I think our kids exist JUST to embarrass us!

HA! That is too funny!

My little sister used to tell people that my Mom put her in the washing machine and dryer instead of giving her a regular bath, and that it wasn't too bad, except for when she hit her head against the side of the dryer!!! :goodvibes
