My cat is in the hospital. update, post 1, HE'S GONE....

Our beloved Tiger passed away last night. We are grateful for the 12 years we had together. We are grateful he didn't suffer.

Tomorrow is our dd's 11th birthday....

Hugs to you and your family! My parents are about to lose their 2nd pet, Moe who's also about 12 y.o. to what the doc thinks is cancer, too. Diagnosis and treatment are so expensive and my mom has decided to just keep him comfortable with steroids as long as she can.

I know how hard this must be!!! Hang in there!!!

I am sorry to hear about the passing of Tiger. We had two of our cats pass away last year due to cancer. It definitely leaves a hole in your heart and an empty place in your home. I remember a story about Bishop Fulton J. Sheen when a little girl, whose cat has just passed away, asked the Bishop if her cat would be in heaven when she got there. The Bishop asked "Would it make you happy if your cat was in heaven with you?" The little girl replied that it would. The Bishop comforted the girl by telling her that then her cat will be waiting for her in heaven. That story reminds me of this poem. I hope you and your family find it comforting.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

He's been sick. Took him the vet yesterday. First, Vet said she felt a tumer in his midsection. Did lots of tests. We were so sick yesterda that we'd have to put him down. The Vet called in the evening saying the blood tests came back all "crazy". Didn't know if it was their equipment, so they are sending it out to another lab. May be cancer, thryoid issues, a virus......May do an ultrasound today. We are so worried. This is especially hard on our 10 yo dd.

Tiger is such a good cat, very kind and gentle. He's 12 yrs and a Maine Coon.

Update:
He had an ultrasound and a long-needle biopsey. The results are still inconclusive, but the Dr is pretty sure it's lymphoia (cancer). They've offered to repeat the test at no charge. As it's fairly painful, we are not going to. The options are see an Oncologist and start Chemo or use Steroids. The Steroids won't do anything for the Cancer, but they will make him feel better. They often help extend the life by either a few months or longer (depends on the cat).

We are going to go the Steriod route. It comes down to quality vs. quanity. Chemo will make him feel sick and their is no quarentee of a cure. We think is kinder to have him feel as good as he can.

We've talked with our daughter. We are going to enjoy Tiger in the little time he has left. It could be a few months, it could be a year. In my heart, I think we'll be lucky if we get 6 months with him.

Thanks again for the good thoughts and prayers.

I am so sorry about the loss of your beloved kitty. Tiger was lucky to have such a wonderful owner.

:sad1: I am so sorry for your loss. As other posters have said pets are really family, they can get in our hearts really quickly and stay there deeply. Remember him with a smile I know it's hard but think it was amazing having him as a pet or better, AS A FAMILY MEMBER. I'm keeping Tiger in my positives thoughts:goodvibes

I am so sorry. Our pets become part of our family and the loss is just crushing. I'm sure you have wonderful memories of him over the last 12 years.

so sad to hear about your cat. It's been a year since we lost our sweet Smokey cat. My heart is with you.

I'm so sorry to hear about your poor kitty. I lost my Tippy to cancer several years ago and still miss her but also have many happy and funny memories of all the silly cat things she did. I'm sure you have many fond memories you will be able to cherish as well.
