I always called it the lock

Is the base there? Worst case, you can use pliers to open it from the inside, or swap out the one from the passenger side or maybe a back door. Otherwise, try a parts store for a generic replacement, or a discount store, or even a dealer.

Yep, "lock thing" would be me, or just "doohickey"

Was funny; one time last year we had the dog in the car, and she had accidentally pressed the window doohickey, opening her window all the way. DD freaked out; I rolled the window back up to 3/4 closed, and DD told me to "turn on caps lock!" So now, our family all knows what's meant when someone says to turn on/off caps lock in the car.
