when I break, it sounds like my car is dragging something under it - any ideas?

It is most likely the brakes. Probably new pads and depending on long it has been making the noise you might need more

Brake pads typically have a 'Brake wear indicator" on them. But that is a high pitch squel that will go away when the brakes are applied and causes no damage. You might have a hanging caliper. I.e the caliper was not tightened down good enough and has come loose. Or it could be a warped/loose rotor. Take it to a Midas store or any other auto shop. They usually provide a free brake inspection. Just make sure they explain and SHOW you the problem. Good Luck!

We have a Jeep Grand Cherokee that makes a horrible squealing sound when braking and we had the pads checked and they are fine, however, the problem we were told was that Chrysler/Jeep products have brakes that can crystalize (sp?) from moisture and that is what causes the noise and can be corrected by having the rotors turned ..... very annoying noise, but, does not have to be corrected in order to brake safely.....
