Howdy folks! We spent a lovely 3 days at the Fort in one of their spacious cabins and taking in the scenic beauty of all the surroundings. I'll start off by telling you we are a family of three: myself, my dear hubby and our 15 year old son. We've been to Disney many times (my first trip was in '74) and this was our second trip staying in the cabins.
This trip was special, as it was my birthday and we were going specifically for the F&W Fest at Epcot. We had been there before a couple years ago, but that year it was still quite hot and we didn't feel like loading up on food and booze. But this year it was beautiful weather-wise and we were going to enjoy it! We arrived around 11 a.m. Wednesday and found our cabin was already ready and waiting for us. We were in the 2500 loop and just like last time we were lucky as the bus stop was right outside our door. We went inside and it was very clean, although they should really update them a bit as they do look aged. We did find a few of the flooring sections peeling up by the sink, but that was really the only thing we noticed that needed fixing....for now.
We unpacked and headed off to DHS to get our annual passes, hang out and wait for the Osbourne Lights. I had a Peanut Butter and Chocolate cupcake from Starring Roles and oh my gosh was that thing huge! I ended up pawning half of it off on to my son. After that, we walked around, saw Mulch, Sweat and Shears (great show btw) and got ready for the lights. When they switched them on...WOW! We were all in awe, even my hubby who doesn't impress easily. If you've never seen them I recommend them highly.
We headed back to the cabins after that and the bus wait 'this time' wasn't too bad, about 10 minutes or so. As soon as we got back we decided to head to Trail's End to grab some grub. We've never eaten there and hubby was hungry (we brought some sandwich stuff, but we all decided we didn't want to eat that with so much other good food around) so off we went. We decided to try the buffet and we were immeditaly seated, even though it was quite busy. I am sorry to say they did not have Cowboy Beans
. I had heard so many good things about them and really wanted to have them but I guess they are no longer offered. Everything was good, especially the beef! However, my hubby warned me that the chicken was quite greasy and it'd be best if I didn't have any. I tend to have tummy trouble when I eat greasy foods, so I took his word for it. He did say it was very good though despite that. The pizza on the kid's side was not a big hit though. My son, the human garbage disposal, didn't like it at all. But the chili, ribs, beef and all the other fixings were really good and we'll be back again next trip.
So we finally settle down in the cabin to watch some tv and relax. This cabin had a dual DVD/VCR player and a modem. The cabin we stayed at last time had neither, so I don't know if they took from one cabin and put it in this one or not, but they were not new units. I didn't bring anything to watch, as we usually aren't in the room long enough and the Disney Channel is what we watch while there anyway, but for those who bring things like that they are available.
The bed, this time, was horrid. My hubby and I usually take the room and my son sleeps on the pull-down. When we crawled into bed we felt nothing but springs. Metal springs. Now I am not a big girl at all but my hubby is a big guy and I knew that if I felt them he would even more so. By the last night my hips and back were hurting so much it was hard to move during the day. This is one thing they really need to upgrade! My son said the pull-down was comfortable and not hard, so at least he got a good night's sleep!
Thursday was my birthday
. We hopped the bus and headed to Epcot, with dinner reservations at 7 p.m. (remember that time) at Cape May. We literally ate our way around Epcot and round 2:30 decided to heab back to the cabin to rest, then head out around 6. Now, in the past we have had no issues getting anywhere on time using the buses and usually ended up getting where we had to be early, so I wasn't worried. Big mistake! We got to the bus depot at 6. We waited almost 25 minutes for a bus to DTD. No biggie, I told my clan, we'll make it on time don't worry. It took us almost 25 minutes to GET to DTD due to traffic. I've never seen traffic like that before, but I also really never saw crowds in the park like I did this week either. So we make it there, 10 minutes before our res time. Then we wait. And wait. And wait some more! It was almost 7:30 when the bus to Beach Club arrived. We did finally make it to Cape May, but well after 8! Over 2 hours travel time. We learned our lesson and will not do that again. The food was excellent and we will go back there again but will make different arraingments for travel to and fro.
Riding back from our excursion, we saw many sites with decorations and lights, some quite elaborate! Even a few cabins had lights dripping from them. And of course, I didn't bring my camera while riding around so no pics, but if you're heading out there and have time take a look.
Friday was AK day and finishing up our food journey in Epcot. Everything we ate was very good and some of the wines were amazing! I usually am not a big eater and I can't believe I ate all that I did! I can't wait to go back for that again next year. We spent the last night of the trip hanging out in the cabin relaxing. It was quite chilly so we didn't do the carriage ride but we will next time. All in all, we love the cabins and the Fort. I did notice some heavy equipment (bulldozers and dump trucks) one night on the boat back to the cabins near RC, but when we went that way in the morning they were gone. It didn't look like they've started anything yet but it does look in a sad state when going by.
Now I would have added pictures to this report (and I do have them!) but I came home Saturday, turned on my pc and my motherboard went to electronic heaven
. Since I needed a computer for work I had to buy one and I haven't figured it all out yet, so that's why no pictures.
