My Brother changed my Ressie while onsite at VB!

I already read same problem earlier. It's really terrible, but it's for you to be careful for someone renting it, make sure that you really know that person so you can check it directly.:)

WOW! I will also never be renting my points out! And to zurg'swife- I cannot believe they allowed them to add a night with your points. MS would be hearing high holly **** from me!! I'd get those points back, and then some! Wow!

Apparently, he made a fuss of the long check in time (nice) and they went ahead and altered my pts without telling me.

That's called social engineering. Make an *** out of yourself to a customer service rep and they feel obligated to make you happy. It's easy to get a lot of things done that one shouldnt be able to achieve in that method.

Not lecturing, I have the credentials and work experience to back up my statements ;) Too bad WDW said im not qualified to work there! feh! Apparently their fraud and risk training is a little lax.

I have also had someone change a ressie once they arrived. A neighbor used my points for a weeks stay. At the end of the stay the weather was so bad that there were no flights home. They added a day. I wasn't called either. Fortunately they were willing to add some cash to cover using my points. Though lucky I had any points available.

This really bothers me. Well this whole thread bothers me, but the fact that they used your points without your permission....

Did you contact DVC about it? If so what did they say about it?

So, then if I am reading all of this right, anyone whom you rent to can change the reservation? I thought only an associate member could make changes? This is not good.......:sad2:

So if the member who rents out a reservation told MS that this was a rental, would that stop a non-member from making changes? The KTTW says DVC member on it.

I know you love your brother, but I wouldn't just see him as an innocent in this. He may not have known it all, but he knew he wanted something better than he had and he put up the fuss to get it.

I understand how the points were put into holding, and it may have just been an automatic things when reservations are changed at the last minute. But there is something that can be done, they did it for me...because of the different people that joined me, and I hope they do it for you.

Bobbi:goodvibes

Before I was a member, I rented. When we checked in we saw a one bedroom villa ( we had rented a studio) (housekeeping was cleaning one) I went to the front desk to inquire if there was availability for my stay, there was. I asked to see a manager, offered to pay cash for the upgrade... I had no idea how points worked vs cash. The manager would not even come out and talk with me. At the time it really upset me. I felt the least they could do was talk with me, there was availability. Has anyone ever posted that a renter ever used points from a DVC members account?

I had one situation where a renter, now a owner, cancelled the DDP at the front desk due to allergies. The front desk cancelled the reservation, put the points into holding, then rebooked the reservation...cancelling the DDP. When I saw that I had points go into holding, I called MS to see What in the world had went on. They checked into it and informed me of the above. I asked why? MS informed me, " that sense no additional points were being used, it was all fine." My account was the same. MS had reused the same points, the points that they had put into 'Holding.' The renter had rented from me on 3 occassions, I informed them that they could not do this at the front desk. They did not mean me any harm. Again, they did not understand DVC rules, which I learned on this one too.

The confirmation has the DVC owner's name and address on it along with the person checking it. The front dest should know that it is not their account.

I'm not so bothered by the OP's story since the points use was a wash -- and I assume MS will fix the "holding" account problem. But:

OMG, they allowed someone else to use up MORE points from the owner's account without approval from the owner! I had never known this was possible. I am shocked. With that other thread about the owner being stuck with the renter's unpaid incidentals and the stuff I'm reading about on this thread, I am leaning towards changing my mind about renting our extra points this year. Maybe we'll just have to force ourselves into taking another WDW trip.

I haven't checked yet, but I wonder what the contract says......

(the 1 with DVC of course)

Several years ago at BWV, I and 2 additional family members were checking in all on my points. Which I had booked and kept careful track of points useage. I just happened to be first in line. And I had a 1 bedroom, the other rooms where 2 studios. The front desk INSISTED I had called and changed one of the studios to a 1 bedroom, using extra points. I certainly had not done so. I am a little fuzzy on the final outcome. but there were no studios available and one of the rooms was changed to a 1 bedroom.
I truly can not recall for the life of me whether my points wre returned or not.:scratchin

But it was changed and not by me.

Why is the front desk able to change rooms to a larger unit that requires more points either over the phone or with someone whose name is not on the membership? Why isn't that exclusive to MS? Is this covered in our ownership paper anywhere? I'm not sure where mine are located or else I'd look it up.

I had something similar happen in June of 2008...we had booked a BWV standard view studio for my daughter and her girlfriends as a graduation trip at 11 months...over the next 11 months saw it everytime we looked at our reservations on the DVC website...called member services the week before since the girls were using magical express and a flight time had changed.no problems...called the boardwalk front desk the day of check in to give my credit card info for the room and was told I had canceled the reservation....ummmm no.....they transfered me to member services...who told me the boardwalk had canceled the reservation since they didn't have a standard view studio available and had rebooked a prefered view studio with a new reservations # and charged me more points...it took 3 weeks to straighten everything out and get the points back

I find this all very disturbing! I have had MS change my reservations on me, but never someone else! If you do not get satisfaction from MS, contact member satisfaction. They are really wonderful. Good luck and please let us know the outcome.

I am going to put in my 2 cents worth. On my account I have a password that I have to give each time I call MS. This was done at the suggestion of DVC and my guide. The reason, when I was going through my divorce it got pretty nasty on my ex's part. Since at the time we both were co owners of the DVC (I was awarded the DVC in the divorce settlement and now sole owner) and he was ordered by the courts not to access DVC in any way. Well he did, but the best part that helped me was I was on the phone with my guide and his girlfriend called in pretending to be me. Well the password went on the account and it worked to this day. No one but me has any access to my account.

I also call MS about 2 weeks before each trip and have them resend me a confirmation statement. As I have said this has helped me.

I don't know if the password would have helped the situation at the FRONT DESK which is the one who is getting into the accounts and using points to satisfy a request made to them (by the third party who already HAS a reservation). This is the disturbing part. No one unauthorized has called MS to change the reservation in many of these posts...the third party is changing the reservation and using points at the FRONT DESK as though the third party has control of the reservation and points simply by requesting such at the front desk! YIKES!!

I agree. I don't think a password helps in this case.

I also am thinking double YIKES! This just should NOT happen EVER!

Just thought I would do the follow up on this

I called MS and they told me that the reservation desk was in the wrong, they should not have done that.

They allowed me to get my 12 pts back, which I then banked and used for our NYE ressie next year. (It did have to do with them taking an extra night at waterview by mistake).

The girl I talked to was excellent, she got my points back by talking to her supervisor. Overall, this experience was an education, the customer service by MS was great when I made that second phone call, and now I can only wonder.....

What the HECK did my brother do at the front desk of Vero Beach in order to cause this fiasco???? :confused3

Well, the next time he wants to visit Disney, I am going to give him the CRO phone number

Anyways, thanks for all the excellent advise given in this thread - It helped me regain my 12 pts!:cheer2:
