My boy can run! What can your kid do?

My daughter is reading much much better:lovestruc
She actually is starting to like to read. She is 10 and in 4th grade and I guess from moving to Va from Alaska she was behind in school and was actually held back in 2nd grade and still struggled.:headache:
I felt so bad becasue I know how hard she was trying. SO even though she still has a long way to go it is nice to hear I can't stop reading this book:lovestruc

My proudest moment for DD recently was her first day of high school. In the past she has had panic attacks when facing new social situations/school. I was so worried (as I posted about on the DIS). I don't know how or why, but she did beautifully! No sickness, no sleepless nights, no crying. I have continually told her how proud I am of her and how I'm amazed at how easily she's adapted. :yay::dance3::woohoo: I've also made sure to tell her that I know it's sometimes outside her ability to control her reactions and that I love her and am proud of her regardless of how she's dealing with things. I love her no matter whether it's a good day or a bad day.

Both my sons just got progress reports with all A's. They also had a a swim meet last weekend. Older son set team records in the 1000 free and 200 fly. My younger guy cut 8, 10 and 11 seconds respectively off his previous best times in his races.

My daughter is in kindergarten and is a great little artist. One of her teachers actually called me up to tell me how talented she thinks she is, and she they have her drawings up all over the classrooms.
Oh, and she is a great little soccer player. Shes not good at getting in there durring the game, but she kicks the ball so far no one can believe it was HER that kicked it. Great at goal too... but when in the field, she kicked the ball SUPER FAR, and the wrong way! LOL

Fast forward 7 years later, he tells us going into his Freshman year of HS, he wants to run cross country...:) We were like, huh? Now in his sophomore year in HS, he is running a 6 minute mile and in addition to cross country and track, he runs 1/2 marathons.

:flower3:

:thumbsup2 That's awesome!!! Don't you just love when they surprise you like that and you go "HUH???"

Actually now that I think about it there is one with my son -- I'm still waiting to see how long it lasts. :rotfl: He is in 8th grade and some strange alien has taken him over that does his homework the MINUTE he gets home from school. He was even mad one time because he had a doctor's appointment right after school, which means he couldn't get his homework done. I have NO IDEA where this motivation came from because it certainly wasn't there before. I think he got tired of being in the middle of watching a show & getting called down to do his homework.

Of course, this is the child that I'm usually going  for things -- such as trying out for the play in 6th grade -- I knew he would get a part because everyone does but he ended up getting a BIG part. I was cringing when it was showtime because I had no idea what he was going to do (he's been known to have major out of proportions meltdowns on the spot if something doesn't go "just right" and with acting, that happens & you have to go with the flow) but he surprised me and he enjoyed it. He even tried out again in 7th grade & this was a MUSICAL!! Not sure if he is going to do it again this year or not.

Middle School has been awesome for him.

My boy can hike a ball. :-)

When he first started football I said, oh great they put him at center because he doesn't have as much experience as the other boys, not as good, yada-yada...

But, it turns out they put him there because he's really good at the long snaps. He's never downed the ball or missed the QB in 4 seasons. Seems like every game we go to there is at least one downed hike or over the QB's head hike done by the other teams.

One mom told me, "My son says your son is the best center in the city." I thought, go for it, boy. Hike that ball!!!!

Mine has found out that she has hands, and that she can hold a rattle. She no longer sits there like a lump!

My dd10 doesn't have the best fine motor skills. She has fairly recently mastered tying her shoes (though not really tight enough) and can snap her jeans. She also doesn't have the best gross motor - she has what will hopefully remain mild scoliosis and tight hamstrings. She has been taking group learn to ice skate lessons and has started doing some of the basic jump and spin moves. For those familiar with USFA badge program she is in Freestyle 2. I love how dd does her homework willingly.

My dd6 can climb just about anything. On the playground kids will point her out to her parents. There is a thing you are supposed to grab with your arms and swing across the bar. She is the one who climbs the support beam over the thingy. She has mastered ice skating at the public skating level so now the 3 of us can enjoy ice skating together. She just started basic 4. I think she can snap her jeans but she prefers to just keep them snapped and pull them up/down. DD reads probably right on track and I love seeing the joy as she realizes her reading is improving.

Love this thread!

My daughter (12) is really, really, really, smart. But she hadn't tried a sport since 1st grade because she is a TOTAL CLOD most of the time. This year she decided to go out for the middle school field hockey team. I was DREADING it, thinking it would be embarassing for her and us. Well, turns out, she's not half bad at it! She plays defense and does exactly what she is supposed to do - clears the ball out and gets in the offense's way! I am so proud of her for sticking with it all season.
