DAY 3
April 26th, 2015 - Sunday
Animal Kingdom!
I had lofty goals of being at AK in time for EMH opening this morning, but after my late night, I didn't QUITE make it. Almost, though... I was through the turnstile by 8:15am. Close enough!
First though, I did stop just outside for a quick entrance selfie...
No idea what was up with the crooked smile. Also, can we see the humidity getting to my hair yet?
(And here's the Minnie Ears you were waiting for too, @SarahDisney!)
Then into the park and through the Oasis I went! Of course, I did stop at a PP photographer (no, not James
) for the compulsory Tree of Life photo, looking particularly rumpled...
I didn't have any FP+ for AK, as I had them all booked for another park later. So I was bee-lining it right for my favorite... Kilimanjaro Safaris!
Out in that savanna, lookin' for dem animals!
...
...
...Oh, look! I found them!
Now in September, I don't know if it was the weather, or that I didn't do it first thing in the morning like usually, but my safari on that trip was.. Meh. Very few animals out and about.
This time? ANIMALS EVERYWHERE. And now you're going to be subjected to the 5 million photos I took of them. You're welcome!
See the fluffy baby in the nest?
These two rhinos were ADORABLE. I couldn't get a good photo, but the one on the ground was rolling around, the other one kept nose-bumping it's butt. So funny!
I have to say, I really do enjoy this attraction so much more now that they've removed the whole "Little Red" storyline. I get that it was supposed to be educational for the kiddos about the evilness of poaching, etc... But I personally just felt it was distracting and detracted from the experience. I'm really glad it's gone, and I can just enjoy a nice safari of animal watching!
After the safari, I had already planned my next stop. Can anybody guess what it is?
1.) It's in Africa, to the right just upon exiting safari...
2.) It's my Disney guilty pleasure...
3.) It increases my face value...
Ya'll know I had to. I normally don't do the face painting on every Disney day of my trip, but when it's only a 2-days-in-parks trip? Yes. Yes I do.
I was about ready for some real breakfast, as the rice krispy treat and bottled Starbucks I'd had in my room that morning were starting to wear off. Good time, because what's right next to the face painting booth? Why, Kusafiri Bakery and Coffee Shop! I was very eager to try this out...
Hot Breakfast Wrap with Sausage, Spinach, Scrambled Eggs, and Goat Cheese, with a french vanilla iced coffee. (Of course, there's a full review over HERE on my Dining Report!) I was sitting under a tree, and those little bright yellow blossoms you see in the pic kept falling all over me while I ate. Most people probably would have been annoyed by this, but I loved it... It just made my breakfast feel so whimsical!
After breakfast, I decided to head over to Festival of the Lion King to see the situation there. This was one my priorities on this trip, since I'd not yet seen in it's new home because I regrettably wasn't feeling well on my AK day in September and had to make the tough choice to skip it. I got there, and the next show was in 35 minutes, so I decided to go see what I could do in the meantime... And I figured that would be just enough time to check out the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail!
Sadly, I didn't take any pictures in here, just enjoyed. I did get to see the baby gorilla, though! SO FREAKIN' CUTE!
I got back to the FotLK theater at about 5 till, and they let me stay on the ECV and a SUPER nice and helpful CM let me to an awesome spot in the front row of the Lion section to park and view the show! And I LOVED it, as usual! Again, no pics... Which sucks, because I was in a great spot for it! I was thinking how much I'd like to video it next time, maybe. I've got 7 months to practice and sort out my video-making skills!
After that, I made my way over to and through India. (Passing Yak & Yeti/Local Food Cafe always smells AMAZING!) Initially I was going to do Kali River Rapids, because it was the other thing I had to skip in September. But for some reason once I got over there, I just wasn't feeling it. I don't even know why.
But that's the lovely thing about being solo... I can change my mind and my plans according to my whims!
So... off to visit with the Yeti! It was a good visit. He and I are bro dawgs now.
God bless those Single Rider lines...
Right on board I went! So much fun!
The guy next to me was pretty quiet throughout the entire ride (where-as I was laughing and screaming like a loony bird, as I tend to do on thrill rides), and afterwards he was finally like "That was GREAT." Yeah it is, my dude. Yeah it is.
It was getting close to time for me to catch a bus to my next destination, but I figured I had time for one more thing... to pay a visit my babies... My beautiful orange and striped babies...
Again to reference my September trip, some of you might remember that I was pretty disappointed because the Maharajah Jungle Trek was really crowded on that day, and I couldn't sit and enjoy the tigers like I love to do. When I would try, people, adults and children, would just swarm in front of me, and I could never get close enough to really see them well. I did get up and stand to see them but a bit, but I wasn't well that day and didn't last long before I needed to sit again. I was pretty bummed, because the tigers are a huge highlight of AK for me.
Well. On April 26, this sweetheart here made up for it all:
She made my whole day, she really did. I don't know exactly why I love these animals so much, but I truly do, and have for 20 years. And AK has one of the best exhibits I've ever seen. Something about watching them just makes me feel nourished in my spirit. And there wasn't ANYBODY around for this, so to have a private audience with this gorgeous girl just put the biggest smile on my face.
It was the perfect ending to my short time at Animal Kingdom on this trip, and I more than happily made my way out of the exit and to the bus stop.
Up Next... The Worst Disney Bus Ride I Have Ever Taken, and Epcot!
