My best Skyauction bidding tip

NHLFAN

can see what they are saying....

lets say you get in on the bidding at 45$ and set your autobid at 95$

if the person you are bidding against also has autobid in place and his autobid is 105$, since he got there first, his autobid will outbid you

thus, you will never get an original bid in place to "kick in" your autobid

you are outbid by his autobid and yes then his "final" bid could be lower than your "autobid" price since skyauction only sees your "bid" amount and not your autobid intentions

since it is being done at the last instance, you probably would never be able to get autobid going and each bid that you placed under 105 would be unsuccessful

You're welcome. I've been bidding like this since Skyauction started. Most of the time I get lucky too. :) One more little trick-hey-may as well give it all away- :rotfl: Make your autobid an odd number. I usually end mine in a 3 or a 7. You have to outsmart the other bidders. Think about how high they will go. Most people will go to an even number or round to the nearest hundred. I figure what's another couple of bucks to get something I really want?

NHLfan yeah, that does sound fishy as your autobid becomes your high bid immediately. Basically they are telling you your autobid was not high enough. Are you sure the winning bid was lower? Sometimes it takes awhile for the winning bids to show up-up to a few hours. Maybe it was higher and you just didn't see it. When you're bidding that close to the end of an auction, it may look like one person has won and they really haven't.

luckyforme

was that a "last call"

or extra vacation with discount?

we got HGVC at International twice now with discounts ( first a 2 bedroom and then a 1 bedroom ) using extra vacations but not for the prices listed now on RCI ...smilawgs

your price was good since most florida ones on there now are over 300$ just for a one bedroom and cypress grande villas are 724 - 881$ for 2 bedrooms in december

the government ones now cost 264$ by the way

:sunny: Nice Job SplshMtn99...Nice Deal !!! :sunny:

Lucky4me,

Here's my guess...

The high bid was $117
.
I placed my auto bid at $155 and the next page that loaded said:

$118 + $195 + $15 and asked for my password...it always states the lowest bid.

It then went back to the auction page and in red said "You bid must be higher than $118" and so I went to place the bid again and but the auction was closed at $135!

It must have been a lag in their system and for some unknown reason by the time my bid was placed, the min. bid went up and I was locked out and my $155 wasn't even accepted.

So you might run the risk of this happening if others are making offer in the last minute.

Lawgs, it was an extra vacation with the discount. Your post made me go take a look. I had given up on RCI awhile ago. Thanks for the tip! :)
Last year we exchanged the last week we had banked into Cypress Pointe. This year we're non owners and I don't see much of a difference except we're saving money. I doubt RCI will allow us to renew our membership when it's up since we're not owners anymore, but stranger things have happened.

Lucky

yes ....have heard that they allow non owners to be members....

you might want to check on TUG

www.tug2.net

would not call RCI first with that one

we could not resist getting the HGVC using the 25% discounts ( would post the price we paid but then HGVC owners would be all over me again )

by the way, we do own at HGVC now since we were having so much trouble getting exchanges into Las Vegas

the HGVC resorts we have stayedn in have been top notch but not over bearing

NHLfan I just really think you broke Skyauction. No more bidding for you! :rotfl:

Actually from what you're saying happened, your autobid never registered. And even if it did, you may have cancelled it out by bidding again the second time. Because if it had initially worked, you wouldn't have got back that page in red saying to bid again. Was that clear? I'm confusing myself here. :earseek:

what resort did you get ?

it probably was not a ready set go auction ....have never seen them go for 1$

Sorry about that. It was an $11 bid. So I meant $221 -- not $211. (typo) Still great for a 2 bedroom at Cypress Pointe Grande Villas. And yes, it was a ready set go auction.

11$ for a RSG is outstanding, they usually end up in the 50$ range which is still a fair price for a 2 bedroom condo
