Yes, I am one of those Mom's this year....my last one going off to school. Sniff, sniff. I will really miss DD as she is good company. Yesterday we went in to meet the teacher and ride on the school bus. DD was thrilled to find that several of her friends from pre-school last year are in her class - and her best buddy (a boy of course) from summer camp is also in her class.
It will be a good year for her and I KNOW that she will do well. DD loves life and trying new things. I put her in 2 extended days because she NEEDS to be around other children.
For the first time in almost TEN years I will have 3 full days to myself!! WOW!
Lots and lots of projects to work on. I will also volunteer in the schools.
And for those who remember my story with DS9 who has Aspergers....he started 4th grade back on tuesday. For the last 2 days he has been coming home saying what an AWESOME day he has had.
He has several friends in his class including one of his best buddies - that helps A LOT! Yesterday he even said he had to write an essay and he was ok with it - last year whenever he had to write he would bang his head on his desk and/or cry. When he was telling me all these things I kept asking him - "Who are you and what have you done with my son?"
For years we held back on medication for him - last May we broke down and put him on it. What a difference it has made in his world and ours. Life is VERY good for him at the moment...we hope it continues. It is incredible to see our son HAPPY - something we never thought we would see.
So school life is good for the moment.. DD is still sleeping. I know I will cry when that bus leaves with her for the first time. Where have my babies gone??
