my aunt took swiped my kids pictures off my piano ( update post 54)

Glad to see you got them back. When my son was born, we took 2 rolls of film while in the hospital (no digital cameras). A few days after coming home, we had them developed. I am a huge picture buff, so they meant a lot to me. My in-laws came for their first visit to see our son that week. We showed the pictures to them. About a week after they left, I was looking for the pictures and couldn't locate them anywhere. I was devastated. I thought maybe I was distracted and threw them away. I even asked my husband if perhaps he mistakenly gave them to his mother. He said no.

Fast forward a couple months when we visited my in-laws. What do you think was on her livingroom table? An enlarged picture of my husband holding our son within minutes of his birth. Not only had she stolen the pictures, but she stole the negatives too!

That was 19-1/2 years ago. I never did get my pictures or my negatives. So, I am glad at least someone is able to get back stolen pictures. I am hoping maybe the day she dies and the house is cleaned out I can find them...and that they have not been ruined from improper storage or even worse....that she kept the one picture she wanted and threw the rest away along with the negatives.

Did your husband not say anything to his parents? Wow, the nerve of some people. I can't believe how they treat their own family.

I'm a picture freak. So, if anybody did that to me - well, they wouldn't have been able to get in the car. I'm always happy to have copies made for people. My mom looks through my picts now (which I have digital copies of) and asks if she can have it. When we used film, I would always happily offer to get copies made for people. Some people's families are crazy - and I wouldn't have a desire to maintain a relationship w/ someone who acted that way (unless, of course, it was due to a medical condition).

How come it took so long to get them back?

I've had family take pictures from me before also:confused3. It actually was fine because they took pics I did have duplicates of.... thankfully:thumbsup2

Did you ask for them back? My aunt did something similar to our family. She actually removed pictures out of our albums which we never got back. And it couldn't have been too easy since they were in those old stick down albums. When she recently passed away and we went through all her pictures we hoped we would find ours (they were of vacation pictures taken at the Colorado River). We didn't find ours but we did find a lot of ones my DM said were missing after her mom died. At least we've got all those now. My mom's dad passed away when she was 10 and she didn't have many pictures of him. Turns out her sister had a lot!;)

OP-glad you got yours back!:goodvibes

I have had a couple of photo things happen to me over the years. They really made me mad at the time. Now it's just kind of disappointing and sad that I don't have the photos.

When my DH and I got married, my parents didn't want to spend money on practically anything. I was told that one of my DH's relatives was an excellent photographer and would take photos at our wedding for free. I thought I was so lucky! Well, not only were the photos something that anyone could have shot (nothing special and/or really bad), one of our mother's took the negatives to get prints and lost all of them! So we only have the photos that were printed originally. I look with great envy at professional wedding albums other women have!

Then when we bought our first house, my DH and I realized our camera was packed away and asked his mother to pick up a disposable camera for us so we could take some photos. We were going to reimburse her for the camera (the reason we asked for disposable and not for her to bring her own camera). That night (when they finally left), I couldn't find the camera anywhere to take more photos. I found out later she had taken it, processed the film, and made a little album to show to their relatives. WTH? So I have no photos of that day, but she does somewhere in the chaos that is her home (aka they would never be found if asked). Years later, I'm not surprised; she always butts into moments that should be for DH & our kids (like inviting herself and FIL on our first Disney trip). A little s"mother"ing....

TB-that s*(%)#*(! Makes me glad I don't have inlaws to deal with. ;)I only have my DD11's biological grandparents and everything is on my terms. :rotfl2: Really though they are appreciative of being a part of my DD's life. Their daughter (and step daughter) were my DD's birth mom. So I get all the joy of having a child with not so much of the family drama!;)

It is nice that my DD has a full set of grandparents (only have my DM on my side) to come to softball games, holidays, and birthdays. We invite to almost everything.

we've had stolen photos as well. my husband doesnt speak to his brother or sister. they were visiting his gram & stole photos of our kids from off of her end table. she was mortified and scared to tell us. how stinking creepy
