My call today was like those puzzles that has the one peice missing and you have to slide the others around to make a picture..... Happy to say I fit all the peices into place!

I wanted to book a Dec ressie before the 7 month window opened up at our home OKW. I have a december UY and wanted to borrow all the points needed from my 2003 UY. I figure if we cancel them we still have a whole year to use the points so no biggie! :D

THe glicth was I have 76 points in my 2002 alocation. These points I plan on using in combination with ALL our BCV points, for a trip to HH in October. We are renting a GV and 76 points inst enough for a whole day.... thus the need to wait until BCV closes and we can borrow from our Dec 2002 UY.

Well, one is not allowed to borrow points with out first using any points availble. :smooth:

And I cant borrow from my Dec 2003 allocation for HH..... so swicthing out cant happen.

It dawned on me... well why not make a ressie for those 76 points..... tie them up in the computer then book our pre Christmas trip! Worked like a charm! I do feel guilty though... tieing up a room and all. I did pick a time with lots of availibty, but still feel kinda bad and want to cancel them ASAP!

How soon can I cancel? Will they replace the points borrowed with the current points? I was sooo siked when I got off the phone I forgot to ask the MS CM.... Who by the way, didnt offer any suggestions, but was very quick to make the ressies.

Thanks for the help!

Laura <---- who now thinks she may have done something wrong :(

I got no problem with that. As long as you cancel right away. I bet you could have hung up, called back and cancelled. It was actually a good idea.

Actually you can cancel right away. I had this problem when I had borrowed points before an add-on. Different situation, but I was able to bank those points, and due to a cancelation of a reservation and reallocations.. it's still very complicated to me, I was left with all these borrowed points, though I had banked all I could after the cancelation. I wouldn't worry, those 76 points will be placed back into your 2001 use year.

Use year issues give me a headache :) - I'm not sure I'm reading your post right - where you say that if you can't go, you'll have a whole year to use the points. One thing that I didn't know originally is that once you've borrowed points, they can't go back into their original UY. So if you borrow them from the 2003 use year into the end of your 2002 use year, and you have to cancel the trip, you *can't* pop them back into your 2003 use year - if you don't use them by end of 2002 UY, they're gone. (I'm sure that to many others here this is stating the obvious, but it was something that I didn't know until I had a problem) Just a caveat, if you weren't familiar with that policy.

JonHM - She has a December use year and is borrowing the 2003 points for a trip in December 2002 (first month of her 2002 use year). So she really does have a year (well almost a year, LOL) to use them if she cancels. Her 2002 use year ends 11/30/2003.

Laura - once points are borrowed they can't go back to their original use year. So, when you cancel the ressie you used to tie up the 2002 points, they won't replace your 2003 points and use the 2002 for the december trip.

I think......Use year issues give me a headache, too :).

Thanks for explaining it CarolMN! Having a DEC UY, at least for me is really confussing.....
I was very proud of myself for figuring this whole thing out!:D

BTW I just called and canceled the room! Whew! I feel beter!! This MS CM said I could have canceled it right away. I wish the first CM had volenteered that information.... ::::::Shrug::::: No biggie. Toll free call:D

Best part is.... we leave in two days for the World knowing we will be back at Christmas!!!

Life here, is really good.

LOL! Laura's plans coupled with her December use year appear to be giving lots of people "headaches", but I think she knows EXACTLY what she is doing.

She wants to borrow the OKW 2002 points into her 2001 use year (which runs from 12/1/2001 - 11/30/2002). She wants to combine those points with her BCV points to stay in a GV at HH in October 2002. She can't use her BCV points until after closing. (No borrowing until after closing). Since she has a December use year, her first allocation of BCV points will be on 12/1/2002.

So she doesn't WANT to return any OKW points to 2003 and she HAS to use the 76 points from 2002 for the HH ressie because it falls within her 2001 use year. Can't borrow more than one year ahead. December use years can definitely be confusing to those of us used to years than run January to December.

Congrats, Laura! Hope both trips turn out to be memorable!

Boy am I glad I have a February Use Year! At least most of my 2002 points are in 2002 with the exception of January which will be in 2003. I would have a really hard time with Dec.

Glad it all worked out for you Laura... Have Fun!

See now it is the opposite with a December UY.... the majority of my use year is in the Following year... I only get confussed now when I read other UY information. I think I get it I think I get it!

Then to complicate matters we choose a August UY for our BWV add on! Hardy har har!!!!!

I think I get it I think I get it I think I get it I think I get it I think I get it I think I get it I think I get it I think I get it I think I get it I think I get it I think I get it I think I get it I think I get it I think I get it

aha...I am to now understand that I can't book the 3 December nights at OKW that I want to book when the 7 month window opens up on May 20? I have 57 points in my account, but I owe those points to someone and have to transfer them. I can't do the transfer until after June 1 because transferring BCV points won't be allowed until the closing date. Therefore, I was going to borrow 24 points from 2003.... but now I guess they won't let me do that while I still have 57 points in my account, and I can't use 24 from the 57 to book OKW and borrow another 24 in June because you can't transfer borrowed points... my brain hurts.

I will have to do the reservation in June after I have done the transfer. Does OKW fill up at the 7 month window? I can always try the waiting list.

I barely know what I am doing.... playing point-o-rama is like reading Steven Hawkins book..... Just when I think I might understand everything I turn the page!
(or make a new ressie!!) :D

Thanks for reexplaining everything.... I barely got it out the first time! :D

I love the DIS!!!!

Laura <------- who really wants to run into a fellow DISer this trip!

I am so confused I don't even know what question to ask. I started to get my book out to read it but I don't think I could make heads or tail of it right now. I own 150 points at BWV and I just added on 100 at BCV. At the 11th month window I want to get a 2BR at BCV. If I have current points at BWV does that mean I can't borrow at BCV? I really want to get a 2 BR at BCV every other year with the GC and use BWV for studios for my DH and me.

Sorry about the double post. I don't know how to delete it. My computer froze and I couldn't get the 1st post through. I think the computer is confused to.:D

I have no clue! I hope the answer is no problem! Hopefully some else will bop in and take this one on!!!

jbthi.... I just noticed Doc responded to a similar ?? in another thread.... Wish I could link ya.........but I dont know how...

BUT his answer was yes, you can bank different resort contracts sepratly and they dont effect you borrowing or bankning the other set!

Cool!

AHHHHHHHH!!! Now *you're* giving me a headache! Stop explaining it! Stop explaining it! My head's going to explode!!!

uh-oh...

KAAA-BOOM!!! (sfx - debris scattering)

Too late...

I, too, have a Dec. use year, and it is a pain, especially for someone who vacations primarily in the spring and fall. When I purchased a small add-on at HH a few months ago, I asked my guide if I could choose another use year. He said I could, but that it would make things even more complicated:( 'Nuff said! I stuck with my Dec. use year. I ran into the same situation as Laura while trying to reserve NYE for this Dec.(2002). I called at 9 am,at the 11th month mark, spit my res. request out really fast, etc., only to be told by a new employee at MS that I could not borrow the Dec.2003 points until all of 2002 were gone. I,too, made a hasty res. using my remaining 2002 points, but by that time, all the standard views were gone. And did I mention that the guy was new? He had trouble getting back to the Dec. res., and I considered the whole call a waste of my time. 2 hours later I called back and tried to fix the res., but am waitlisted for part of it. Oh well, we live and learn.
