In case any of you guys wants to see what happened to us here in Richmond on Monday...

Here is a LINK to a thread I have on the CB with a link to the Richmond Times Dispatch slideshow of the damage Gaston did to us with no warning on Monday.

Really really sad, and really really scary. :(

Wow, Lauri, that is incredible.
They had photo #1 in our city paoper today and I saw some of the rain and floods on the TV but I didn't realize that it was that destructive till seeing those photos.
I can't believe some of those cars and trucks piled ontop of each other all by the water, it looks like tornado or hurricane destruction.
Thanks for sharing, hope you, Matt and your familys are all well.

It is really sad and scary, you are right! When you hear Tropical Storm, you expect SOME rain and SOME wind, but not the destruction that occured there! Unbelieveable!

The force of nature never ceases to amaze me.

Wow! I cannot believe those pictures are from Richmond! Sink holes? Missing pieces of roads? Sounds more like Florida or San Francisco. I had heard about the flooding, but I had not realized the kind of damage this storm caused.

I guess you guys are very lucky you only had to deal with some water in the basement and a passle of crazy dogs. :( Looks like all the PD sent your way worked some magic for you.

it was pretty incredible, wasn't it? Lynnie.. the thing about Tropical Storm is that when Gaston got to us, he wasn't even a Tropical Storm anymore. He was just a depression. It was just supposed to be some scattered thunderstorms according to the weather. Problem was, Gaston stalled, regrouped, and went back to Tropical Storm strength as it left.

We had no "sustained" winds, just gusts. So you can imagine what would have happened if it had Isabel's wind power!!

a Tropical Depression?! Geez!!!! Is there a magnet or something in Richmond to storms?
"Hey Isabel, Gaston, come on over....sure put your feet, you rest up, get stronger ....then go have 'fun' in our town!"

So glad you are okay!

this is similar to what Allison did to Houston about 3 yrs ago..."just" a tropical storm, that became a depression and wreaked havoc on the Bayou City..the medical complex south of downtown was particularly hard hit...lots of horror stories from my friends who work in the hospital labs....Allison's name was retired from the storm list even though she didn't reach hurricane status!!!
Looking forward to seeing you again, Lauri!!!
