Help.!!!!
Last night my daughter was putting on lotion after her bath and said hey Mom I got a bump.....and sure enough there is some early breast bud tissue developing!!!!

She is tall, skinny, and beautiful....what are we going to do with BOOBIES!!!! Now do I have to have the "other talk"....

 Add this one to the list of inappropriate subjects for the CB.

As a mother to a dd, I understand how shocking it is to realize your dd is growing up. Your dd's school will probably be doing "the talk" to her soon, it wouldn't hurt to give her a little talk prior to the school talk.

I don't think it's inappropriate at all. The CB is a place where we take our concerns to our cyber friends to get advice and support. I know it was kind of strange when my DD started to go through bodily changes, and I would have welcomed any input I could get from parents who had already been through it.

I say don't worry about THAT talk yet. She's only 8. Don't want to get her worried about stuff that won't be an issue for a while. Let her go on being the 8 year old she is mentally - I think it will make it easier on her and you.:D

Here is another good one for girls: American Girl puts out a book called, "The Care and Keeping of Me". It explains everything in words she'll understand. It is a wonderful book and will help keep the lines of communication going.

I got this book from Target a few weeks ago to read with my DD who is 9. It is AMERICANGIRL LIBRARY THE CARE AND KEEPING OF YOU, THE BODY BOOK FOR GIRLS. It has good drawings throughout and it discusses sensitive topics as well as keeping hair, teeth, face clean, what foods to eat, etc. Maybe this will help you!

I'm sure an 8 year old girl would be thrilled to know her parents were discussing her bodily changes in cyber-space with dozens of total strangers. Would you discuss this IRL with strangers? If not, then I wouldn't suggest doing it in cyber-space either. JMO.

Thanks for that advice, as I did feel that the one that I bought was a tad "too" much... as age range was 9-13 ....

Will try to find the American Girl one!

Yep... found it at Barnes & Noble on line...

The Care and Keeping of You: The Body Book for Girls (American Girl Library Series)
Valorie Lee Schaefer, Norm Bendell (Illustrator)

Larger view Paperback, September 1998

Our Price: $9.95
Barnes & Noble Member Price: $9.45

Please talk to her about the changes that are happening and will happen to her body. I went through puberty at a very young age. If my mother had waited for the school to give me "the talk" it would have been too late and I would have been traumatized by the experience.

Eeyore, if you thought the post was inappropriate, then why did you click on it in the first place! And, you also posted 2 times on this thread.

PrincessloversMom: My Dneice is experiencing this. She is fine with it, its her parents and relatives having a hard time with it. They grow up so fast!!!!

Wishing everyone a "magical" day!

This will make 3 times, but who's counting (beside you, of course!). :jester: I didn't realize this was a PRIVATE thread, either. So very sorry for offering an opinion!!

The most inappropriate thing I find on the CB is nastiness and rudeness.

The OP has received some great info, and btw so did I, so I think it fulfilled it's purpose. Thanks for the info, I'm hoping they have the same books for boys! :earseek:

Robin, I also learned alot from this thread and yes I did write down the names of the books mentioned. With a DD age 6, it wont be long before I will be shedding those "my baby is getting so big" tears.

Wishing eveyone a "magical" day!

I have an almost-8yo and I am trying to prepare myself for the upcoming changes. We bought the American Girl book and I think it's great. I've started talking to her about some things she will be experiencing, because I'd hate for it to be a surprise.

I don't consider this TMI for me. I knew by the title before opening the thread exactly what would be in it.

Or...maybe some think the title is too graphic also. Do they need to break down the community board into sub-groups addressing (a) parenting issues (without debating please), (b) adult-only topics, (c) ??? That way people aren't surprised by what they find. Or maybe I'll stick with the DIS board for Disney-only conversations (which is how I started on here) and save parenting discussions for parenting boards.

But I digress...good luck with impending puberty!!

 ;)

For those interested in ordering the books mentioned above,
take note that there are two such books:
"The Care and Keeping of Me" is a journal-type book with questions for the girl to answer for herself (like "What should I eat more of?" or "When do I get exercise?") l
"The Care and Keeping of You" is the informational book with text describing the changes of puberty and body issues. They are not terribly expensive and actually work very well together (both by the same author for American Girls). One gives information to her and the other allows the girl 'give' info back to herself by answering questions.

Thanks for this information. I plan on looking for THE CARE AND KEEPING OF ME, it sounds like it will be a great addition to the other one my DD and I are already reading!

BTW, I have seen much worse things here on the CB in the years I have been posting.
