so how do they make babies, anyway? Boy, was I SO not ready for that one!! My 8 yr old hasn't even asked that yet!:o Fortunately, there was enough chatter going on that I was able to sort of avoid answering the question. What on earth do you tell a 4 YEAR OLD about reproduction???

My brother told me I came from the "Starvation Army", and that they were tired of me.

Nice huh?

Wow, I bet that threw you for a loop! I think at that age or even my DSs age of almost 6, I would probably say they are made in their mommies tummies, and hope that was all he needed. If he took it further I would have gone on with the whole when a mommy and a daddy love each other, the love makes a baby grow, theory. No need to get technical at that age, just give enough info to make them happy. And if they keep pushing for more, change the subject by offering them dessert. ;)

that whole mommy + daddy = baby script would REALLY confuse him since we didn't make him... we adopted him! And he knows that but he wanted to know how to MAKE a baby! LOL!

I would see if he'd buy that God makes a baby when He sees that a mommy and daddy are lonely. It's not untrue, it's just not exactly the whole truth. :)

LOL! At 4 DS was painting pictures of sperm. We have one
of his paintings framed and on the living room wall. There are
three big blue sperm with black tails-it's a great picture!
His preschool teachers thought his sperm pictures were
hilarious.:D If your child asks again, tell him a sperm and an
egg come together to begin making a baby. Ask him if he has
any more questions....the next question our son asked was,
"What does a sperm look like?" We went online and got him
some pictures of real sperm. Hence the paintings. Again, we
asked...any more questions? He said no. At that age, we tried
to answer the basic questions and complicate no further.

My daughter has been pretty obsessed with finding out where babies come from since she was about 4. It's getting to the point where the standard answers aren't working anymore. I DO NOT even want to go there with a 6 year old. LOL

My son asked this at a very young age as well. I was flustered, and told him the first thing that came to my mind, which was that Mommy and Daddy decided they really wanted a baby, so we looked at the sky every night until we saw a red star. And once we saw the red star, then we knew we would have a baby.

He accepted this, God knows why since it is the stupidest story ever, but a few years later after I had DS #2, I asked him if he would like Mommy to have another baby. And he looked at me, and answered adamantly, "NO!! You and Daddy are fresh out of RED STARS!!" tee hee, sibling rivarly between my two boys, gotta love it.

I did recently explain to him where babies come from. I don't know why I didn't just do that when he was 4........... :teeth: When my youngest son asks, I think I'll leave the red star out of the scenario......

How about tossing it back at him and asking him where he thinks babies come from......

I was hoping to avoid this topic a while longer.... but my 3 year old (when she sees my belly growing) will know..... Now how to explain how the babys comes out........

LOL! Laura, my other ds (8) told him the baby comes out of the woman's butt! OMG, I am just in SO much trouble with these kids! :o ;)

Both of mine asked at about 3. Both were satisfied with "God made a special place inside a Mommy where they grow until they're ready to be born" for about a week.

You could almost see the wheels turning . . . the next question was, of course, "How do they get out?" At that point, "God made a special way for them to get out" seemed to fit the bill.

However, DD decided on her own that the "special place" must be the belly button - I heard her telling a friend about a year later.

I guess saying "I forgot" is out of the question????

LOL, my oldest started asking about 4 too.
