My #1 Disney Tip!

:) Those kind of things are fine. However, I do not think if you are eight months pregnant you should be showing your bear belly off. Just my opinion. My DD6 doesn't particularly care for the short shorts. So I have to go to the boys section and get her the longer one; which she is totally happy with.

LaceeMouse, remember to check "Overstocks" at LandsEnd and "On sale!" at LL Bean. I always find a few bargains to offset the price of the regular items. And like you said, "We are desperate!"

I have noticed some things aren't too expensive. This summer, LLBean Kids has really nice, soft Tshirts at 2 for $15; I couldn't have done much better buying cheapo ones. These really wash up nice, don't shrink, and the colors are lovely. And while the catalogs charge shipping, they do not charge sales tax.

I have one for start shopping in the mens and boys section of the department store. You will found exactly what you want in a decent size. I am a full figure women and everything in the women's department does not fit right. But go in the men's department boy what a diffrences. Man find the right fit on clothes and everything.

I have been shopping in the men department for years now for shorts, pants and shirts and able to find the sizes that I won't.

I've bought quite a few kids' clothes at Lands' End. My girls wear school uniforms, and their stuff really lasts! Right now they each have only two pair of long pants (all from Lands' End), and they still look new after TWO YEARS of wear. You just can't beat that!

The clothes in their catalog run about the same price as JC Penny's, Kohls, or Belks -- but they don't put them on sale every other week like the department stores.

One thing you should check into is their overstocks section. At the end of the season they put things on sale. I've bought dresses in the $9-10 range and shorts for $5-7. Considering the quality, you just can't beat their overstock prices. Of course, they're limited in their selection of color and sizes.

The main reason I like their stuff, however, has to do with their simple, classic, modest styles. Their clothing looks like it was made for LITTLE GIRLS -- not street walkers. Personally, I'd rather my children have a few nice items rather than a closet full of Britany-wear. I'll do the laundry more often without complaint.

However, I do not think if you are eight months pregnant you should be showing your bear belly off.

Some women (I was NOT one of them) find their pregnant bellies to be beautiful, and want to show them off. It does not bother me in the least, and I do often wish I had the kind of confidence it takes to do that. Many of the current maternity fashions are belly baring. Have you seen that Liz Lange for Target commercial on TV?

My DD6 doesn't particularly care for the short shorts.

Last year Gap had these fabulous cotton shorts that were very sporty, loose at the leg like a running short, had a drawstring & elastic waist, and came down to about mid-thigh. I got them on sale for $8.99 each and they were the best! DD8 had about 4 pairs in every color and wore them constantly. She does not like shorts with a fly or tight waist - she says they are hard to play hard in!

do you folks consider the tank and halter style "bra tops" in poor taste, too?

Absolutely not! I think that if all the "parts" are covered, there is nothing wrong with them. I actually don't mind the bikini top & shorts (not the bikini bottom) look at WDW. It's hot there, and again, as long as nothing is falling out, it does not bug me. It's when I get an eye-ful of something I'd rather not see that offends me.

ps: If you like Lands End, try Talbots Kids. The "real"prices are out of control, but if you wait for the sales, they are fantastic. Clothes for the non-Britney set...

I have boys so gertting decent shorts for them are not an issue but I have had 2 kids and my thighs/ figure aren't what they were when I was 20... so i wear boys shorts and Capris... but it is amazing to see adult women who don't look that the ones on TV wearing short shorts and little tops.

mcnuss, didn't meam to imply that the pregnant belly is ugly, just that the thought of a taught-skinned later term one being pierced by a piece of metal sounds PAINFULL to me!! I also cringe at pierced noses, eyelids, and the upper part of the ears! I know everyone has a different opinion of what "beautiful" is, but it seems to me that life is painful enough without volunteering (and paying for) MORE pain. What's next, neck stretching rings and lip plates? While I did not show-off my big belly, I have 4 kids, I never felt unattractive when I was pregnant (DH certainly never thought so either!) I was thinking that my kids might not want to see a big pregnant tummy either, they would probably be grossed out! May actually be a good scare tactic for my 12 yr. old DD! LOL This thread is getting WAY off topic, I think most of us agree that Disney should develop and inforce some type of family friendly dress code! I would vote for it to lean toward strict instead of the other way for those out there who are more sensitive- at least have everything covered!!

I have a 4 year old DD and we have no trouble finding shorts for her...try Children's Place (if that is located in your area of the country). I believe they have cloths for up to 10-12 year olds. Also try Target. The more expensive stores (Gap, etc) seem to be carrying the more trending cloths which I agree are very inappropiate.

I have told managers of children's depts that I did not approve of their clothing and that perhaps they should get a different buyer.
Sometimes I have actually had to explain what is inappropriate about the leather, tight shirts, lace, animal prints, high heels, sayings on the shirts, etc...

I buy a lot from Heathtex.com. They go up to size 12 or 14 for girls and have some great sales. I also like landsend.com. Sometimes OshKosh stores have some nice things...but even they are iffy.

Nutsforgolf, I don't have the heart to tell you, but wait a few years... The girls' clothes are darling through 6X. Then they turn into bimbo clothes. It's as if once little girls turn 5 or 6 and need a size 7 they want to dress like streetwalkers!

I also get lots from Healthtex online. No tax and no shipping and great sales. Take notes here so when your little cutie grows a bit youc an keep finding her pretty things!

I laughed out loud when I read this post. We were at WDW in April and when a tween girl walked past us in MGM with a skirt 'up to here' and a top 'down to there,' my husband looked at me and said, "I am so glad that we have boys." It is absolutely amazing what girls wear these days and some should check in the mirror before they leave. The sad thing is that even 50 or 60 year old women are wearing the same things. When my 10 year old makes a comment, it has to be bad. He is basically oblivious to everything.
A comment on boys' fashions - I can't stand to see the BVDs or boxers stickin out of the top of the pants that are hanging below their backsides.

My 9-year old daughter is starting to notice outlandish clothing too. She'll see women and laugh and whisper to me something like " Mom! Her boobs were out" and it just kills me because kids tell it like it is, and often, boobs ARE out!

One of the things at WDW that I always notice is the shoes some women chose. The heels and the straps and all the pretty little shoes meant to be seen but not walked on -- what are these ladies thinking? And again, as posted earlier, it is also older women. Goodness knows that by the time you are a granny, you should have the sense not to wear your "Sex in the City" styles to Disney World! Who are they trying to impress? I guess someone has to keep the podiatrist in business!

Do you think it has anything to do with body type??

I mean, a small boned, slender, flat chested woman in a short tank top looks athletic, while a large chested one looks slutty and an overweight one looks to have bad judgement.

It is kind of the same with kids clothes. My very petite daughter looks fine in short short and tank tops, while my 14 year old large chested curvy neice looks trashy in the same clothes!!

My sister goes to the grocery store in a sports bra and looks fine and would look fine at disneyworld, but I would look obscene.

It seems manufacturers are making clothes for one body type and not allowing for those that might not be tiny.

I am probably going to get thrashed for this but I have to throw up a bit of defense. While I agree that there are people out there wearing things that are too small or unappropriate, and are "hanging out" where they shouldn't be, I also think that women can wear less and still keep it in good taste. I work extremely hard on my figure and I am probably one of the women you all would talk about because on very hot days you may find me walking through the park in shorts and a tank top that may be tied or folded up to shorten it. I don't see anything wrong with it. Then again, I really don't have anything "hanging out" either.

At the Poly my husband and I saw a woman with a bikini-style top so much too tight that she was flopping out of the BOTTOM of the cups. I saw a male Cast Member role his eyes as she walked by.

I'll bet that those CMs have seen it all!

Note to self: be sure to make at least one trip through the Poly on my trip.

Momandjake, I think if you are fit and are not "falling out" there's not a problem.

I wear halters and tank tops with shelf bras, but I am small and make sure I am completely covered. I make sure no one can see up my shorts, and nothing is see-thru.

I do, however, have issues with the new jeans and shorts fashions that are so low-cut they are indecent. We saw a girl at the mall this week that I'm sure had to shave in order to wear them.

Actually a lot of time the clothing WOULD be appropriate on a skinny young person. So I do kind of understand Disney's problem. You can't very well go up to the guest and say "I am sorry, but you look like a fat slob in that outfit, could you go change!" LOL!!! I do see women older and heavier then me in clothes that do NOTHING for them except show off their weight and age in an unflattering way. Now I could see the same outfit on a young 20 year old ( your standard tank tops, sundresses) and not even notice.

If you want a good laugh on shoes go to Zurg's site. www.badshoe.com I send this to my friends as warnings of what NOT to wear.

But I see women in my neighborhood jogging around every day in a sports bra and spandex shorts. Or riding their bike in racerback tank and spandex. I am not offended. I still say it is partly how you are built.

But you are right, it is not Disney's job to be the fashion police. I can see it now........going up to some large chested lady and telling her her chest is too large to wear a V-neck.

I guess I kind of take it all in stride. In the 70's everyone was all up tight about hot pants, in the 1910's about short skirts, in the 20's, about women wearing pants. I guess now it is showing yer butt and bra straps. Next thing, everyone will be walking around in those little nipple covers and bikini bottoms.

I see it at the mall, I see it on the street, I see it at the park where my kids play, I guess I am going to see it at Disney too. Heck, it is on TV every day!
