this will be our first time visiting during the holidays, I know tickets are already on sale. I have a question, are we able to buy the day off? or is it better to buy before hand?

Prices are a little cheaper when you buy in advance. A few of the parties will sell out - like the last one or two of the season and sometimes the ones nearest to Thanksgiving will be super crowded. So it's up to you if you think you might be there during a busy time, or if you can hold off.

You can certainly buy tickets when you get there- if they are not sold out. If there are a limited number of party dates during your trip or you have only one date you can attend I suggest you buy in advance. I ordered tickets earlier last year but in previous years I think I have ordered 2 months in advance or right when we paid the balance of our trip at 45 days.
