Can I get some opinions on Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party? I will have a 22 month old with us.

Thanks

Steve

We try to go to MVMCP every year. The decorations are beautiful. The free hot chocolate and cookies are yummy and the ride lines are usually really short. Your toddler will probably fall asleep early, but try to make sure he/she sees the parade. It's wonderful for little ones.

We went last year, and my son was 26 months. He loved it and we all had a great time. We put him down for a late nap around 3 pm. He slept until 5-ish, and he was able to make it most of the night. He loved the fireworks, and the parade.

We are going this year again, and hope to make it an annual holiday tradition.

Wow -- giving advice to Tikiman!?! What a turn of the tables!

Hey, Steve, I'd say with all best intentions to skip MVMCP until the baby is older. Save your health, your sanity, the baby's health, and sanity -- and unless the baby is already a night owl (whom you'd have had asleep for a huge part of that day, back at the Poly), wait to do the party until a future trip. I'm not saying the party isn't wonderful, 'cause it is, but just saying as a parent that you might not want to have the little one out that late and in the chill night air....

22 months already??!!! Yikes, where did the time go. Anyway...we love MVMCP, Steve. If you just take it a bit at a time, and not try to fit everything in, you should be fine. I see people running from attraction to attraction, trying to see every show, and ride every ride. I guess they figure they paid that $37 and they are going to see/do it all!!! Not a great idea with a wee one.
So...I'm assuming you'll be at the Polynesian, so getting back and forth isn't going to be an issue with the buses.
There isn't a lot that the baby is going to get a lot out of...so, you and Tara should figure out what things you really want to do/see. I love the Christmas parade, I love the decorations, Mickey's Night Before Christmas over in TomorrowLand is fun. Bundle the baby up. You know how chilly it can get in Dec.
I've been to three parties now, and looking forward to one again in Dec..hopefully it will involve a big old DIS meet during MouseFest. I would try to do it if I were you. Sure, kids get a lot more out of it when they're older, but we all know that you guys will be back again....so do it now, and then again later, down the road.

I appreciate all opinions. I have had so many friends tell me not to miss it but I have heard other stories about how crazy it can be. We are only going for 4 or 5 days (quick trip) to check out the new stuff at the Polynesian, do some stuff at Mousefest and let Kai have his fist experience with WDW. Also some CMs that will be leaving WDW want to see him. He is a good traveler and we have had him out late. We went to the CM preview of Space Mtn at Disneyland and we checked in at 9 PM and got to the park late. He did great, loved the Buzz ride and even liked the fireworks and he was only 5 months. He is good with being somewhere crazy late at night but I will keep in mind maybe not doing it this trip. There will be plenty to do and we never push things too hard at WDW anyway. If you push things too much that you get tired and frustrated. We have all seen families there that have had way too much for one day.

I will keep reading the opinions. I still have time to think about it.

Thanks to everyone who has and will respond.

Goofy4tink,

Yes he will be 22 months in December. We will be staying at the Polynesian. I have a LVC room booked right now but my parents might join us so we might do the one bedroom suite so getting back and forth with Kai should be no problem. We are getting APs for summer 2007 but want to activate them in December for that trip also. The big trip will be July 2007.

Aloha

Steve

Wishes for the MVMCP this past Christmas was HANDS DOWN the best firework show I have seen anywhere. I thought it was worth it just for that. The parade was great also. It was just a really fun atmosphere. I'd give it a whirl if the baby is up for it. We went to the first one on Sunday night after Thanksgiving and the crowds were not bad at all. We stayed until it was over. By the way, we were trying to decide on the Poly and the YC for our March trip (decided on YC just to try Stormalong) and your website was an extremely helpful source of information. Thanks! I can't wait to try the Poly on a future trip!

I loved it, except I have one issue with it.

It's made to sound like it's just the paying guests (paying MVMCP guests) in the park. However, they do very little to get regular guests out of the park. Basically you just cant get on any rides if you dont have the bracelett but you can stay in the park. They do check the braceletts at various locations, but in reality, if you wanted to just stay in the park, hang on main st and walk through various areas of the park and then watch the special fireworks show, you can do it. It's not even like you are doing something you are not supposed to.....they just let you. They made NO announcements that the park was closed to regular guests, they just didnt let non-paying guests on rides.

I disagree with the previous poster. I think they do a great job of clearing out the park. It's amazing how the park transforms between 6:00p and 7:00p. IMHO.

It worth the effort to go just to watch it snow on Main Street. I would not go to experience rides than can be enjoyed at other times. I would make sure to take in all the "special" things that are only offered during the Party.

It is truly a magical event. :thumbsup2

Well we have seen the snow at Disneyland and we could see Wishes from the Polynesian but it does sound like a fun time. I see it works like the extra magic hours at night where they give you a wrist band to get on rides. Is there any other things that you get if you pay for the party?

Nicolemarie,

Glad my site was helpful and the YC was great but I hate to say I was disappointed in Stormalong bay myself but I guess I can’t pass up the volcano pool with the beach right there and the fireworks right in front of you at night. I am sure you will love it though. It is a great resort.

Some special parts of MVMCP are the Christmas parade, the special Christmas fireworks to Christmas music, the Christmas shows like Mickey's Twas the Night before Christmas in Tomorrowland and the show at the Castle front and then the special characters out and about in their festive attire.

Also, you get a free souvenir photo and hot choc and cookies.

The whole atmosphere is so festive.
