MVMCP - is this normal?

Well, this is highly disappointing...I am in the middle of planning our first Xmas trip for Dec 2011 and going to MVMCP was a huge part of the planning. Maybe we won't ever be experiencing the party now since this was our one and only Christmas trip to the World- we love to go there, but we also want to take the kids travelling out of the country and can't do it if we go to WDW every two years...

TOTALLY understood and it IS disappointing! Those of us that have experienced the party w/ managable if not low crowds have LOVED it I think (for the most part ;) ). The idea is GREAT! But I think it's also a disservice to other guests for people not to speak up about how insane it can be. If it were a person here and there, you could probably chalk it up to just a bad isolated experience, but this is has been talked about for a few years now and hasn't gotten ANY better. I for one want poeple to know what it can be like, in BOTH cases, crowded and not. One is paradise on Earth, the other, well, oty h*ll beciuase hey, it's teh House of mouse , but I would NEVER choose to be around that many people at once, ever again. Depending on when you go, you can decide once you are there. If it's not sold out then you may have a sporting chance, if it is, you dodged a bullet and saved yourself the $$$. If you buy befre hand they aren't refundable. if you buy teh day of, they are a little more, but you may be able to find out if something is sold out say a day or a few days before to decide then. :confused3 That was my plan a month ago. We actually were so tired both nights it was going we didn't go, but turned out they were very LIGHT nights. Dang it!
No one has a crystal ball and it seems everyone wants assurances, but I think it's just a pretty good track record, the closer to Christmas you get, the more nuts it will be, no matter the day. Keep that in mind. The locals will be out in force even if traditionally, the resorts or parks aren't as full. Also know that the parties end a week BEFORE Christmas. At least they did. :headache:

If you want to go and never have been, then by all means go, form your own opinion..Alot of people love it, alot of people hate it, but few will deny it has changed over the years, and not for the better.I personally like hearing all sides of something before I make an educated decision.

We have tix for the 19th. It's been a while, since we've attended MVMCP(13 years). The prices have increased greatly and so has the number of tickets alloted. I'm hoping for the best, but will be prepared for the worst. This will be our first Christmas week trip and I'm expecting a mad house.

Us too! I am just hoping we get a good spot for the parade and fireworks and anything else will be a bonus. I'm sure DD would love to see some princes/princesses but I just don't see that happening!

We were there on 12/3 as well and agree it was crazy. We were allowed in at 3:45 pm and they were still taping the christmas parade (saw Mariah Carey sing). We had HUGE lines of people on rides I'm not used to waiting for like Pirates and Haunted Mansion. I went about an hour early than the first parade to find a "good spot" and was shocked to see the rows were already packed. I was happy we did the fireworks dessert party bc it would have been insane otherwise to watch them.

On a good note, however, we were checked for wristbands no less than four times; including when we were standing waiting for the parade to start. Also, we left immediately after the fireworks, expecting a huge bus line and there was none.

I don't understand why people are complaining about going on the 3rd/4th. DUH, its the Christmas taping!!

I can only speak for myself, but it was not readily apparent when I booked my reservations and purchased the MVMCP tickets for the 3rd that there would be a parade taping that day, the park would be extremely crowded, and that Disney allows far too many tickets to be sold before declaring a "Sold Out" condition.

We went to the last November party and had a great time. We waited 10 minutes for space mountain, but everything else was walk on.

The year we went was about the same and it wasn't the Christmas taping!! Duh. They sold too many tickets, lines were long, shows were crowded, it was chaos. I will say that at the end of the party it had cleared out quite a bit, but I learned my lesson and will not do a hard ticket event again.

I think there was too much trying to get regular guests out at the start of the party and they are definitely overselling it (for sold out parties). I am sure if you hit one of the parties that is not busy it is great, but we went to a mid week party and it was crazy...might have just been our luck.
